the truth is that you buy 98% of things with debit cards or online nowadays, but you will notice that retailers will change prices to round things up. we have 13% tax in ontario. so, rather than see things advertised for $0.99 + tax, you see them advertised as $1 or $1.25 including tax (so, $0.89 + tax or $1.11 including tax). we don't tax food in ontario, so we see items advertised as $4.00 now instead of $3.99.

if you just use your debit card, though, it won't matter.
