so, wait. when i first read about this law that the tories want to pass, it was suggested that they wanted to download portions of the emergency powers act to normal legislation, subject to a sunset clause. so, they were essentially taking the parts of the emergency act they need out for a while, relegislating them out of the emergency act and then pretending we weren't in a state of emergency anymore; i didn't like this one bit, but i decided that as long as the sunset clause was held to, it made little functional difference which option they decided upon.

but, talk of this sunset clause has disappeared from the coverage.

there is no way for me to rationalize my way through simple power grab legislation. if there was a sunset, i could put dissent aside until later; without one, the dissent must occur immediately.
