my informed (through experience...) opinion about what is being discussed in this article?
the idea that you'd meet a spontaneous, organic protest movement that is tactical enough to realize that it's unsafe to charge the stage at a clinton event defies credulity. they are far too organized and far too logical to be anything but cops - because only cops have that kind of training.
this tears down the propaganda you hear on the right that wants to argue that these leftist groups are funded and organized and a serious threat to order - trust me, that's nonsense. the real protestors are a combination of students, addicts, the unemployed and people on lifetime disability. it's a struggle to get them up and out to the protest, because they're always hungover. the reality in the existing economy is that people with jobs and families either don't have time to join a chaptered protest movement or don't have the incentives to.
the marxist language, here, is to separate between a
lumpenproletariat and a
proletariat. spontaneous, organic protest movements like blm and occupy are always expressions of the
lumpenproletariat, and always rejected by actual workers. as an anarchist, this is actually where i'd prefer to organize. but, to reach critical mass, you need a large-scale economic crisis. the opportunity presented by the 2008 crash seems to have passed us by.
a real organic protest movement would not be able to weight the relative safety hazards of rushing sanders or rushing clinton - or would seek to use it against her, if it was really savvy. the last thing clinton wants is dead black protestors at her event. a real movement would use that leverage, if it somehow realized it exists. but, it would probably just rush the stage, ham-fisted...
i mean, there's a contradiction in the analysis, right? they claim that rushing the stage at the sanders event was the consequence of youthful rage - pure emotion. but, then they claim a calculated response in avoiding the dangers of rushing clinton?
they're cops. i'm sorry. they are.
