i think i need to clarify a confusion, here.

as a canadian citizen, the issue that is concerning to me is not what my own government says - these rules are not enforceable, and i'll happily be the one that has them struck down, if need be. i don't actually care what my own lawless government passes, and i'll be damned if i'll let them run rough shod over my inalienable, individual rights.

the problem is that the americans aren't letting people cross right now, meaning i can't go to the united states. i have no legal recourse with that - the canadian constitution does not apply at the us border, and i have no constitutional rights in that country.

so, the pmo can publish any baseless nonsense it wants - they have no authority to do any of it, and i have no intention of listening to a word they say.

but, i need the go ahead from the white house before i can try to cross over...

so, i'm going to ask biden to unilaterally lift the restrictions, and tell these corrupt idiots in ottawa to fuck off. we can let the courts do the rest, as we bring back the rule of law, and toss these crooks out on their ears.
there are some scenarios where you can tie testing to privileges. so, a boss, for example, could tell their employees they need to get vaccinated or tested to enter their property - which reduces to a question about property rights, rather than a question about vaccines.

but, you need to ask the police what their options are if a citizen merely refuses to get tested, and cites s. 7 in doing so. that's an extremely powerful statement in this country, and the police would be shattering the rule of law if they were to enforce testing by violence - enough that they'd belong in a jail cell for doing it. i'd end up very wealthy if that were to happen.

nor can the cops deport a citizen on the spot. i have papers - you can't turn me away.

they could try to arrest me, but that wouldn't last 14 days - it shouldn't last 14 minutes, but at most might last 14 hours.

what the cops can do is write you a ticket, which is inviting a constitutional challenge. and, frankly, i'd guess most cops would actually even realize that.

if you walk right by that cop, they'll probably just shrug -  and that's happens when an unlawful government refuses to abide by the rule of law, in passing unconstitutional dictates.

i'm not just being confrontational, here - my legal opinion is that you should just keep walking once you're cleared, and that 999 times out of a thousand, the cops won't even try to stop you.
these policies are ultra vires, invalid and of no force, whatsoever.

they do not exist.

just ignore them.
again - i promise you that i'm going to walk right by those border guards, and they can cuff me and put me in front of a judge if they don't like it.

so, i needed to synchronize my various backup files, first, and then back everything back up to the various places. it's this 100 gb folder with what's left on it that i have in slightly different versions in roughly 5 different places....

i'm just about done copying everything to my data drive. once it's properly filed, i can copy it back to the satellite spaces.
today's post is inr068, which is an attempt to make a contemporary release to put into the 2013-2018 space and represents the sum total of actual writing and recordings done in the basement studio on marion (rather than remixes, rearrangements and production work).

something similar will be necessary for this basement in the end, as well - which has been primarily a narration hideout up to this point.

===========

in the summer of 2013, two formative things happened at almost exactly the same time: my father died after a lengthy battle with brain cancer and i moved from ottawa, ontario to windsor, ontario. they were within a week from each other; my father died while i was camped out in a tim horton's on tecumseh, waiting to sign a lease and catch a bus back 'home'. but, dad was really the only remaining thing that made ottawa home, in the first place.

the reasons underlying my move were legitimate, if somewhat forced. my gear was stored in my father's garage, and i had been given notice that i would not be able to keep it there more than a moment past his death. my stepmother and i haven't spoken since. i legitimately couldn't find anything in ottawa, so finding the place in windsor was actually somewhat of a stroke of luck, given the urgency of the situation. i had hitched down there to meet friends, but in the end they couldn't sign a lease, so i went by myself.

the culmination of occurrences had me in the mindset of fresh beginnings. i finally had a stable income source on odsp, and a new apartment in a new city. so, i almost immediately set about completing all of the music that i had been putting aside for so long, in preparation for my own imminent demise, relative to the immense expanse that is time.

through whatever coincidence, i am permanently closing my second period during the week that i am being evicted from this same apartment, for the supposed reason of personal use. this apartment will consequently forever be associated with the completion of my second period.

yet, the bulk of the work done in this apartment - through immense difficulties with malfunctioning gear, questionable electrical outlets and a probable atmospheric magnetic field - has been in the realm of (re)mixing, orchestrating, programming and rearranging. it was just the nature of what needed to be done around an assortment of midi compositions and flat mixes from the early 00s. the really heavy lifting in completing my discography will come in finishing the third period, which i will not start until i move into a new apartment, around the corner from here.

with the exception of two vocal tracks (for inri020 and inri062), this disc is a comprehensive document of what was actually written as it was being recorded in the basement at 805 marion ave, in windsor, ontario, canada, in the form of a collection of overdub mixes that can be pasted on top of the existing demos in order to create the final products. it is mostly guitar and bass tracks, but also includes some orchestral and other sequencing and some electronic drum parts. everything else that was done in this basement was either created from existing sound or was constructed from existing midi instructions, however elaborately and however abstractly.

in hindsight, i can state with some force that this basement is not well suited for a recording studio. yet, these problems will be forever embedded within my own history, as well.

with those words, my tenure here ends. so long.

originally written, programmed and recorded in varying states of finality over 2001 and 2002, except the hidden track (which was programmed in 1997). the associated tracks were completed between february, 2014 and may, 2015; these mixes, however, were spun off as late as nov, 2017. released as lp017 on nov 27, 2017. expanded and finalized on jan 1, 2018. as always, please use headphones.

this release also includes a printable jewel case insert and will also eventually include a comprehensive package of journal entries from all phases of production (2001, 2002, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).

released april 24, 2003

j - electric guitars, digital & analog effects & treatments, bass, synthesizers, electric air reed organ, drum & other sampling, drum programming, drum manipulations, electronic drum kit, orchestral & other sequencing, sound design, soundscaping, loops, digital wave editing, voice, production, composition.

greg - drum performance sample source (2)

the rendered electronic orchestra includes at least one of each of the following: violin, viola, cello, contrabass, koto, french horn, trombone, trumpet, tuba, english horn, saxophone, flute, oboe, piccolo, clarinet, bassoon, agogo, tubular bells, glockenspiel, piano, melodic toms, timpani, orchestral hit, orchestral drum set and various full string sections. it also includes choir.

what i want done by the end of the night is everything from mid-2003 until early 2007 filed, numbered and ready to finish.

some remixing will be necessary, but the fact is that most of it is done.

and, when i get over this hump, the stuff from mid-2007 forwards should be a lot fresher. yes, 2007 was a long time ago. but, all i have from 2007 forwards is mostly just a collection of seeds.

period 3 is the real heavy lifting in catching up to where i was, even if where i was is now a long time ago, too.
ok.

so,  i may have to reperform some (really, most) of these tracks, and that's ok. so, there'll be some overlap with the impressionist jazz punk disc, but i want these all to be strictly acoustic, so i'll have to redo it. that's the conceptual break here, regardless - inri075 is the backpacking trip which i'm going to date to july 1, 2013 and inri076 will be a mini-single of material worked out when i got back.

so, let me file this as roughly and then get to working it all ot.

inri075 - guitar backpacking disc. redo some guitars. functionally, a hybrid demo disc of upcoming third period material, with some stripped down versions of period 2 pieces.

inri076 - all you need single. remove vocals? most of my vocals in this period are pretty cringey, these ones are particularly awful, but also kind of intriguingly pathetic. i'll probably include both options.

inri077 - bedroom cassette demo ep. right now, it looks like two tracks - but i want to finish the demo, as i left it. i mean, i left those channels open with intent. let's finish the demo before i do the final recording.

inri078 - this is the lost symphony. the other three symphonies for this project will have versions from 2003-2006 as lead-offs, remixes and alt-takes included and then final versions as hidden tracks (which will be album versions). this one cannot do that, but needs to be comprehensive in terms of collecting demo versions and outtakes. may include new remixes. in short, i'm recording this more or less from scratch, so it should get a full treatment like the jjjjjjjjjjjjj material.

inri079 - this is the art show demo, released as is.

inri080 - this is the ftaa disc.

and, i need to file a little bit more before i can carry forward - but intend to do that by the end of the night.

these numbers are now final.
