i guess they'll have to leak it, then.

i'm in favour of showmanship to hold fast to a point, but this is just poor sportsmanship. it's an interference in due process. there's no hidden redeeming bombastic quality to this: we must be able to hear both sides, and a fair leader would see that, whatever his arrogance.

i believe that ontario has chosen the cap & trade option, rather than the carbon tax option, and that the cap & trade system was developed independently of ottawa's plan, which has had no real effect on ontario.

so, it's unclear why a lawsuit would be necessary to prevent a carbon tax that is not being imposed.

the only people talking about a carbon tax were the conservatives, who had questionable motives with it from the start. but, if i get this right, the candidates are now campaigning against their own party's policy, which they are falsely attributing to the federal government.

yikes.

i'm going to play along with the cynicism a little: maybe you trick enough people to hold some obscure ridings, this way. you plant the false stories as ads, then ship them out over facebook - it would no doubt trick enough idiots, but how much growth is there in the conservative base?

and, yes - you'll see this show up somewhere in the next few months:

vote conservative to stop kathleen wynne's carbon tax!

then, if they win, and there's no carbon tax....

i don't think they win an election like this. but, that's general populace - not card carrying members, who are just going to take the narrative as an insult, if they're not naive enough, themselves, to think these candidates don't know what they're talking about.

up against this kind of fast talking, the straight talker is going to be most appealing, whoever it ends up being.

in the primaries, anyways.

this will happen in the general.

sadly, this will probably be more effective than any protests in canada.

and, if you want to know how to get them to budge, that's it: make it an issue of canada's reputation abroad. and, this is fair game, for we are buckling to pressure from a regime of questionable integrity - in kahoots with the quasi-fascist regime in china, to destroy the planet to fuel absurdly unsustainable growth.

when it's canadians, they think they can manage it. they're wrong, but they're in a naive comfort zone that prevents them from reacting, really, at all. but, when you make it international, you set off the panic buttons.
