i bought extra tomatoes and extra limes because they were cheap, but they aren't keeping in this fridge, so i decided to catch up on the nachos over cycle 2, 3 and eventually 4. total extra costs is $15 on doritos and $10 on cheese, which is not so bad.

i saw a lot of stuff this week and it's mostly been bad. the two i saw on saturday were good, but the landlords are taking their time in processing every last single application, and i want to have moved yesterday. the market is better in he sense of more options, but it's still saturated in the sense of too many applicants, and i'm getting the impression that landlords are holding on to the fleeting inflated prices that are crashing, in the face of 20% unemployment (11%, officially). i'm going to have to throw out applications in places that are overpriced, or too small, or ambiguous on the smoke, and see if i want to sign if i get accepted.

i saw something today that seemed ideal, but the manager's response when i told him i'm on odsp was bad enough that i'm considering filing at the hrto. why wouldn't i, if he tells me point blank i won't get accepted  because i'm on odsp? i'm waiting for him to send me an application. if he tells me via txt "i'm not sending you an application because we don't rent to disabled people", that hrto file is coming. this is a pretty big company with a lot of buildings, and they are pretty aggressive about non-smokers, which is what i want.

i have never seen the legalization of drugs as some kind of justice issue, and the idea that it is is an insult to the concept of justice. it's not particularly hard; if you don't want to go to jail, don't do drugs. the best arguent in favour of legalization is that it would reduce wasted police resources, and the idea is that it would cost less money on enforcement, but i doubt that's actually the case.

i'm really not interested in helping drug addicts. society has no reason to give a fuck about addicts. what i'm concerned about is strengthening laws that ensure that normal people aren't subject to the habits of addicts, who have no right to enforce their poor decisions on the people around them.

what we need is better case law strengthening the rights of non-smokers. landlords should be able to directly fine tenants for smoking anything inside, anywhere, and the fines should be substantive - $1000/occurrence. that would shut it down. there should be zero tolerance in case law for any sort of inside smoking for any reason, and complaints by tenants should overpower decisions by landlords. the right to fresh air should be enforced as fundamental law.

we have an ongoing public health emergency in our multi-residential housing complexes. there is no safe level of exposure to tobacco or marijuana. tenants should not be expected to tolerate even the slightest whiff of smoke from anywhere.

smokers should be expected to smoke in their cars with the windows closed.
canada needs to have a very serious discussion about recriminalizing marijuana, and about enforcing it.

legalization has failed.
i have the best apartment in my price range in town, but it's uninhabitable due to the drug users on the premises. our government's failure to enforce basic drug laws, and put addicts in jail where they belong, is making it virtually impossible for normal, healthy people to find acceptable, affordable housing. it's a complete failure of law enforcement, and a complete failure of canada, as a society.

if you want to move to canada, there's almost no escape from the now ubiquitous drug culture.

it's not the greatest country in the world. it's an uninhabitable hell hole.
