the situation in new brunswick has no relevance to the situation in british columbia because new brunswick is under treaty and british columbia is not. that is, the indigenous groups in new brunswick signed away ownership of the land a long time ago, while the indigenous groups in british columbia never did. the government in british columbia continues to deny the basic fact that the land is not under any sort of treaty, and was simply stolen outside of any legal process, which is outside of any concept of british or canadian law.

canada has a valid treaty in new brunswick, but is illegally occupying british columbia. canada has no right to be in bc at all. i repeat: the canadian presence in bc is an illegal occupation. straight up.

further, european concepts of "property rights" are not "fundamental" in canada, but in fact do not exist at all. it is extremely concerning to hear a member of the government make such misinformed and overwhelmingly ignorant comments about "property rights" in canada and i would call for that person's immediate resignation and self-deportation to the united states. get out of this country. you're not welcome here with your yankee property rights. canada is a country that does not have any enforceable legal concept of property rights, whatsoever, and that is a very, very good thing. canada's historical rejection of the idea of property rights is one of the primary reasons that we are a more just society than the united states, with it's horrible use of private property at the foundation of it's deplorable constitutional framework. we fought a revolution against property rights - that was the point of our rejection of america in the revolutionary war, it was a war against property rights. that is our history, and i am proud of that history. i am proud that canada fought a war to reject property rights and subsequently built a society on their negation, a society that is better than the one built on property rights next door to it. the concept of property does not exist anywhere in canada's constitutional framework, which is something i am proud of as a canadian, and i want to ensure it stays that way. it is foundationally, fundamentally, starkly different than the constitutional or legal framework in the united states.

in canada, all land (with the exception of a small amount of allodial property owned by indigenous groups) is the exclusive property of the crown, which since patriation refers to the federal government. there is no private property in canada. at all. deal with it.

i am reposting this, as i'm adding the bit about weight. the food posts will eventually be isolated into the food blog and shifted to an access point in the kitchen. it may be most logical to use the chromebook i'm typing on right now for that purpose and redesign the lenovo for a different function.

i have not got back to schedule yet but i'm getting closer. i'm almost caught up with the garden salads and have almost eaten through the pile of canned soup and spaghetti i got from the food bank. there will be some odds and ends after that, and a sold month of fruit and ice cream, and then i'm back in schedule, likely by the end of the summer.

canada's decision to militarily align itself with germany as a countermeasure to the united states is immensely stupid and will lead to severe hardship in the short to medium term if it is not swiftly corrected and reversed.

iran has been there for 2500 years. trump has roughly two years left in office. if he's not going to remove them by force, and it's clear that he doesn't want to, they have no reason to do anything except wait for him to go away, and he doesn't get it.

the united states has seen it's ability to enforce it's will on iran decrease as it has refused to act, allowing other powers the ability to strengthen iran's defenses. iran still stands no chance, it's just harder now than it was. this fucking around looking for peace with terrorists has just increased the financial and human cost of eventual, inevitable and necessary regime change.

there is not going to be a deal with iran.

regime change remains inevitable. the united states should hurry up and get it over with.
the mock hanging is considered free expression in canadian law.

this issue is apparently too complicated for most people to understand. the very narrow category of street activity considered to be restricted in canada has explicitly to do with realistic threats to the peace that are directed at identifiable groups. it has nothing to do with "respect".

the only groups we have seen breaking these laws are palestinian and iranian aligned groups, but the police won't charge them because they're islamicist nazis.

canadians have no obligation whatsoever to be "respectful" during protest activity, and i reject that suggestion as an attack on free expression. however, public protests that realistically target minority groups with harm are a threat to public order that the canadian parliament has considered concerning enough to pass laws to restrict, but the police refuse to enforce those laws and instead continue to let violent muslim groups roam the streets unchecked.

i'm also going to need to make some lentil soup tonight.

how is my weight loss plan going?

the answer is according to plan. i weighed myself over 74 kg after that last caesar salad on the 20th.

- may 19th-20th: 1st cycle 14 caesar salad, with added pickles, green olives, jalapenos grilled chicken.
- may 21st-22nd: two cans of mushroom soup with cheese, bacon and spices and four slices of buttered toast. weight at start: 73.45
- may 23rd-24th: 2nd cycle 7 garden salad with olives and jalapenos. weight at start: 72.45.
=======================================end of cycle 7, except two fruit & ice cream mega bowls
- may 25th-26th: 1st cycle 8 garden salad with olives and jalapenos. weight at start: 71.75
- may 27th-28th: 1st cycle 10 quinoa, with lentils subbed for quinoa. weight at start: 70.70

next:
- may 29th-30th: 2nd cycle 14 caesar salad, with added pickles, green olives, jalapenos grilled chicken. weight at start: 69.

so, that's already 5 kg, which is 11 pounds, in about 10 days. it's the slowest and most methodical but also the surest way i know to lose weight: don't eat until you go down a kg, repeat and stick to it until you reach your goal.
i'm going to take a flip back to the coffee table book this evening, so i'll be updating a few things that will look old and that's what i'm doing. i just want to make sure i don't skip anything. specifically, i want to make sure that i don't miss putting anything in the right box. this listing of things will help me clean up and organize a lot of the clutter i have sitting out from months of buying things in boxes and other packaging, which i really haven't thrown out yet at all. i haven't decided what i want to do with any of it. i wouldn't throw out piles of paper bags, for example, as i might be able to find something to do with them.

i'm waiting for some pohb funds to come in tomorrow morning and then for a couch to come in by the end of the week. i will need to make a purchase at canadian tire of more caulking, cement and some other things to finish some issues outside the landlord isn't responding about regarding. he's kind of run out of time, now.

i've decided what i'm going to do is compile a box of packaging per room, so that each room has one box worth of boxes of packages, tucked away under a sink or a desk somewhere. so, i will need to sort through this mess and organize it in that way. the coffee table book will let me catalog that as i am doing it, which will help me organize it.

the place tends to look like condensed mass trying to escape into an alternate universe, but i know exactly where everything is because i neurotically catalog and organize everything, even if it tends to look like the absolute triumph of the second law of thermodynamics over existence.
i think i can otherwise get the shape of the room set up over the next few days. it's going to require a lot of temporary moving of things. it's a necessary process.
i'm starting to set up my listening room and the basic fact is that i want my couch back. no shit.

there's a couch in here, but it doesn't smell so good and i'm on the brink of dragging it out.

i still have the three leather couch cushions from my stolen couch. the best option would be to find a couch bottom for 60% or something. if you have a cushionless three seater leather couch in windsor to sell, contact me.
ebola will be worth panicking and running amok over if it goes airborne. and i mostly rejected covid restrictions as unscientific fear mongering. ebola is the real shit.

i am strongly opposed to the use of any motorized vehicles on any bicycle infrastructure, and i will push any e-bicyclists i see on canadian bike paths to the ground and yell at them to get the fuck out of canada.

e-bikes and e-bicyclists are not welcome in this country. go back to where you came from.

Sunday, May 24, 2026

yesterday was pretty brutal in terms of headaches. it's relatively clear that somebody is smoking around here somewhere, and i'm going to have to figure this out. that's two weekends in a row. i can't smell it, but it's knocking me out. i'm going to have to go out and and yell at somebody to go kill themselves.

so, i had to sleep a lot off yesterday.

i weighed myself at about 72.5 yesterday morning, which was the goal, so i made a salad around noon and knocked myself out a couple of times trying to eat through it. the package didn't get here until after 17:00. i had to sleep some more in the evening, but i was awake enough to get up around 1:00 this morning. i'm currently at 72.95, so i may have to wait until this evening before i can eat again.

the lights are now installed and the bathroom is done. i'm going to wait to order a few more small things like towels before i make the video, but the room is done and i will be moving on within a few days, i just need to shower.

i still have a lot of shelving to install in the kitchen and the kitchen doesn't have a wall separating it fro the rest of the apartment, so i'll need to address the front of the apartment at the same time. i'm hoping to move rapidly to set up that part of the apartment.

the clarity act that follows exists strictly within the fantasy reality of the canadian constitutional framework. it has no relevance in the realpolitik of international law, and will not be taken seriously by a real secessionist movement.
the reference case explicitly separates between a constitutional framework that is not reality but only exists in the ivory towers of the federal government, and actual reality on the ground in quebec.

- can quebec secede unilaterally? that isn't a legal question, it's a political and a military question. can they or can they not?

- if they can, it means canada cannot stop them besides through a war of attrition, which is in contravention of international law and should be avoided. canada should seek to align the constitutional fantasy reality with the actual reality on the ground via negotiation.

- if they cannot secede unilaterally, canada can enforce it's constitution, which has rules for secession that make it virtually impossible, but this is a time wasting mechanism. if they could secede, they would do so unilaterally.

read the case yourself. it's well written.
this is completely incorrect. it is not what the reference case says at all.

what the reference case says is that quebec can unilaterally secede if it can force the reality through. the case reduces the issue to what kind of reality quebec can actually enforce on the ground. if quebec can force secession unilaterally, it is a legal process under international law and canada would be breaking international law by trying to prevent secession with the use of violence or force. it further follows that the clarity act is not consistent with international law and that canada would face immense scrutiny from democratic global bodies if it tried to prevent secession, much as ukraine has faced immense scrutiny for preventing secession with the use of extreme violence, forced conscription, etc. ukraine is one of the most unfree countries in the world; it's one of the most corrupt societies on the planet. canada should not be looking at ukraine as anything except a failed state to learn from and avoid making the same mistakes as. ukraine has done everything wrong for decades and is the worst example imaginable to follow.

canada would rightfully face crippling international sanctions if it sought to block a democracy movement in quebec or alberta. i would sanction and boycott my own government in an attempt to topple it, to allow for democracy to triumph. democracy is paramount; nationalism is barbaric and stupid. my solidarity is strictly and solely with the rights of self-determination of peoples, not with some stupid colonial country that shouldn't exist in the first place.

the case concludes by explaining that despite the fact that it is up to the secessionists to make secession a real fact on the ground in order to legitimize it, which means through generating support and through organizing militias and other defence forces, and the fact that canada would be breaking international law if it tried to prevent secession by force, canada may still seek to negotiate, as a face-saving mechanism. the case lays out a process by which secession can happen peacefully, if it looks like it's going to happen violently, anyways.

but the rights of self-determination are not determined by the federal government, and the federal government will rightfully find itself toppled over and burned down if it tries to decide that it is. no government can tell a people that they can or cannot secede and any that tries to should cease to exist through the use of force.

the mirrors are all put up. i was going to try to paste together a couple of broken mirrors and go with it for the aesthetic, but it's not going to work after all due to the geometry of the broken mirrors not matching the window i'm covering over well. i just used some glue on mirrors over the cardboard, so it means i can take that piece of cardboard with me in the end. i will still rebuild those broken mirrors, but as a decoration in a different part of the house.

i am going to add a few more shelves to the makeup table space and deal with some holes in the wall by just taping cardboard over it and painting over it for now. somebody's going to have to eventually fix it, but i'm not getting much response from the landlord recently. the correct thing for me to do is to sue him, but that's not in my self interest at the moment. there currently aren't any smokers on the property and the rent is cheap. i want to maintain this space, not get into a fight. but it needs to get done. so, it makes more sense for me to just do it and send him the bill and then tell him "look, you're not doing it. i did it. just send me what it cost me to do it.". the way i'm going to do this - taping a piece of cardboard on the wall and painting over it - won't cost me anything substantive. that's a commonality; i'm just taping, painting or cardboarding over problems so that i can't see them, making a note that i did it and then moving on. each of these issues will need to be dealt with independently when he gets around to it, but i'm tired of waiting. i mostly don't give a fuck, i'm just tired of looking at it.

i have one more package coming tomorrow with the materials to build an ad hoc spotlight for the sink mirror out of a broken dresser, some small lights sold in bulk for cheap and an extension power cord and then that's it, besides lingering small bathroom usb devices. i'm probably going to get a water flosser in the next few days.

there's something else that i'm going to be addressing over the next couple of weeks, as well.

i'm used to my bmi being in the 20-21 range. i've seen it fall to 19ish and climb to 22ish, but it generally stays around 20-21. i knew i had gained some weight recently and i understand why - i made an attempt to eat more (and better) during the pandemic and increased the amount of exercise i was doing for a while but have seen that lapse recently with the housing issues (i will get back to that), and my diet was then expanded when i started supplementing with food bank items, which i'm just eating through the end of. i wouldn't normally have items like cream of mushroom soup in my diet (which i'm eating with toast, cheese and bacon as a side to my normal salad). for a while, the added calories were probably beneficial, because i cut my calories immediately after i got evicted to save money. i have been noticing it creep up so i weighed myself the other day. i was surprised to see my bmi over 24 (but below 25), which is at the highest level of healthy weight. i've weighed myself repeatedly over the last few days, and i'm bouncing between 23.5 and 24.5, which is too much for me. so, i need to lose on the order of 10-15 kg to get closer to what i'd consider a healthy weight.

the way i'm going to do this is by staggering meals downwards a kg per meal. i will need to weigh myself at a kg less than i was before i started the previous meal before i start the next meal. by keeping to this, i expect to lose 14 kg over the next two weeks and around 20 over the next three, and that should be enough. an example may be helpful.

- i measured myself at 73 kg and change (which is just under 24 bmi)  before my meal last night.
- my next meal will be a large garden salad. i will wait until it gets to 72 before i eat it.
- i will have the same meal after that, and will wait until it gets to 71 before i eat it.
- there will be some lentil soup next, and i will wait until it gets to 70
- a chicken caesar salad follows that, and i will wait until it gets to 69
.
.
.
.
.

when it does get back to the 20-21sh range, i'll hold and keep an eye on it. but the issue is related to the food bank items, which are clearing out. i don't expect to need to be too focused on this once my diet goes back into schedule in the next few weeks.

what israel should do with these pathetic losers that keep going back there on dingies is capture them, treat them as enemy combatants and carry out prisoner exchanges with their home countries. the intent would be to create an international incident that embarrasses their families, but also to enact some compensation for the time and effort that they are being forced to waste on dealing with this. some more wealthy enemy combatants may be exchanged for an amount of money, whereas others may be exchanged for some political prisoner somewhere.

israel should try to profit from this. they shouldn't pay for it and then give them back for free.

while they are held captive, the combatants should be isolated in camps to prevent them from raping and murdering people, given that they don't seem to think there's anything wrong with that.
what carney has actually demonstrated - this is his actual record, which canadians should have tested more aggressively before they elected him - is that he has a tendency for dramatic rhetoric that is not well thought through, that has little grounding in reality and does not develop into workable policy.

in fact, the faceless bureaucrat coming out of the office has turned out to be a better politician than policy maker - he is better at writing speeches than he is at writing legislation, and he tends not to follow through on specifics. he's a drama queen more than he is a policy wonk. he belongs in front of audiences more than he belongs in front of legislatures.

in a lot of contexts, this might be what the establishment wants (in what is actually a snub to the common wisdom, which is that voters would see through it, it turns out that you actually can become incredibly popular in canada by running for hockey and against america after all. the experts were wrong - we actually are that simple-minded, as a people.), but in the context of canada right now, it's actually what the serious people were trying to get rid of. the country has ignored too many serious issues for too long and is now in desperate need of serious policy before it's too late. mark carney is not creating serious policy, he's walking down the same delusional path back to the nineteenth century that the liberals were supposed to be trying to get us off of. of course, the conservatives present no alternative, but instead are an even less serious option.

after a number of detours and redirectons, i am finally putting up the last few mirrors in the bathroom.

i have made a number of extra purchases to finalize the space:

- a water filter in the shower (water softener)
- a new shower head
- mirrors in the shower
- shower shelving
- more shelving with a large mirror across from the sink on top (so i can see behind me by looking into the mirror)
- extra soap and shampoo
- brushes, combs, tweezers, etc
- some small usb devices (shaver, plucker, pimple remover)
- a hair straightening iron
- extra wall shelves for these devices
- a side shelf for toothbrushes and other things to get it off the sink
- i finally installed the makeup shelf with the power extensions
- a cushion for the seat
- lights in strategic parts of the room

i need to put mirrors up on both of the inside doors and on the window, which is right over the sink.

it's a fucking spa.

next step is a long and overdue shower.
curves and quotas are not the answer, either. it goes from grade inflation to magical grade thinking. it's even worse to apply a normal curve on everything.

students that go to top schools should be expected to get high grades. if 65% of students at harvard cannot get As no matter how hard they try, it is going to create de-enrollment and a strong incentive to study somewhere else. it's easy to predict that that 35% will be full of nepotism and the rest of the student body will need to buy it's way in. this is going to be a disaster.

it is apparently a radical proposition nowadays to suggest testing students aggressively and awarding them scores based on their test marks, and letting the data fall as it does. that's the system nobody wants.

ask is a verb. it is not a noun.
the relationship between the united states and china has no remote resemblance to the peloponnesian war.

when carney dropped the reference, he wasn't helping himself, as the context he was dropping it in was flawed beyond measure. carney then proceeded to repeatedly contradict and make a fool of himself and to this day it's not clear how carney intends to advance what is functionally a world designed around american hegemony without the participation of the united states. carney claims a rupture in the world order, but his policies and behaviour are suggestive of somebody who actually wants more american hegemony and not less of it. canada just wants a return to the preferential treatment it enjoyed since the 60s (or so) and is basically talking out of it's ass to try to get from a to b. however, carney had the basic point that the united states and canada are sibling nations going for him when he made the drop and there is at least some comparison between the athenians and canada and sparta and the united states, even if most liberal americans would cringe rather viciously at this. what the drop really has going for it is that the conflict that the americans fought with the british for control over the anglosphere did have stronger undertones, and it's a memory of that, if a bad one.

i don't think comparing the rise of china to the rise of athens is in any way remotely helpful and if the drop made carney look confused and lost, it is making xi look eager and rash and kind of daft. there is no thucydides trap across the pacific. but carney should take note that running your mouth off without thinking it through fully can have unintended consequences.

however, i have a more appropriate ancient war to drop, and i've dropped it before. the pacific is opening up much as the mediterranean did in the years after alexander. we have an established trading power and an upstart looking to take control. the punic wars are consequently a more accurate comparison for a conflict between china v america, while the peloponnesian war does retain symbolic relevance when discussing conflicts between english-speaking societies.
these people are a bunch of fucking losers and, frankly, they're lucky the israelis don't just shoot them out of the water. they have no grounds to complain about being rescued or fed. they should be executed on the spot. if i was making decisions in israel, i'd want to treat them as the terrorists they are and blow the dingy up with helicopter fire, but they can't do that because there are american citizens on board.

somebody that's currently physically in vancouver is trying to hack one of my accounts. i have some idea who it is.

you'd better fuck off before i catch you.

if the cops won't help me, i'll make sure they can't help you.

it's been a constant for some time now that i consistently get these vicious splitting headaches on holidays, which is because these worthless fucking drug addict losers keep following me around and doing drugs near where i live. i'm sick and tired of these pieces of absolute garbage making me viciously sick in an utterly idiotic attempt to cure me of "depression", which i've never been diagnosed with, and which i don't accept is a real medical condition (psychedelic drugs don't cure you of anything, they just make you useless until it wears off, make you tired and sick, give you brutal headaches and make you want to puke until your body eliminates it. the "trip" you're experiencing, the hallucinogenic experience, is the result of your body going into shock as it eliminates a poison. there's a lot of disinformation about it having to do with neurotransmitters, but that's not correct. the trip is actually your body going into shock; that's what happens when you ingest poisons that your body needs to struggle to get rid of as an emergency - you start hallucinating. they're horrible drugs that are banned for a very good reason. they're an utterly awful, painful, wretched, boring, tedious, time wasting experience that you'd have to be literally retarded in order to remotely enjoy. they knock you out. they make you see colours. it's not fun. i haven't done psychedelic drugs since i was a little kid. the correct age range for these kinds of drugs is about 12-15 years old. if you don't grow out of these drugs well before you turn 20, if you don't realize they make you useless, and if you don't grow into utterly hating them as a complete waste of fucking time, you are unquestionably a legitimate, class A fucking retard, unambiguously. but i can't get rid of these complete fucking idiots that are convinced i'm supposed to enjoy being useless for days at a time and suffering through vicious headaches that knock me out for hours.)

so, i'm very frustrated right now. and very sick.

i haven't updated the np: list in a while and am not going to anymore.

this is my main blog. it's for politics, rants, daily status updates, etc. i'm going to be making a better attempt to split it up as i set up different devices for different purposes. i've already set up the kitchen/tv/youtube/stereo system. next up is the listening room, which contains the main stereo system.

- there is an email device connected to this blog and also to my main vlog accounts, including "jessica", "the koala central command" and "jessica's fake youtube account". this is likely to be split up and refocused a little. the vlogs will likely get their own device in the listening room. i don't want to connect my typing pc to the internet, so i'll either use the email device or get something dedicated for the journals, which are the first focus coming up.

- i have a chromebook ready to go that will be strictly intended for the studio, sit in it and will only connect to bandcamp, pahyip, youtube,  etc to upload music.

- there's a video device in the kitchen connected to this account:
no blog, yet.
it may get connected to the serious account and the diet account
this device is constantly freezing and, for now, i'm just rebooting it. i'm going to need to figure it out or replace it. it's annoying, but it takes a few seconds to restart in guest mode. everything's saved to the server.

- there's a raspberry pi in the listening room with an audio out that is connected to this youtube account:
this music review blog:
..and a number of multimedia devices, including a 5 tb external drive full of flacs and mp3s.

the purpose of this post is to point out that when i get the listening room set up with the pi and the rest of the system, i'm going to be shifting back to the music web. i've drawn attention to this music web a few times, and it's actually something that i have notes for going back to about 2001, although i'm also going to be starting fresh. i am strongly interested in rebuilding my cd collection (cds. not records. not mp3s.), but i have a few conditions to take note of:

- i want to start with artists that are dead and have no possibility of recreating new releases. this will minimize the need to backtrack.
- holding to a longstanding practice, i will be collecting new cds as they come up, but i will not be writing substantive reviews for any releases until they've been released for five years.

i have considered a variety of artists to start with, including a silver mt zion, pink floyd, coil, the beatles and genesis, but only coil is entirely dead, and it's too new. i want to collect old cds that i find used rather than buy new ones, for right now.

i've decided to actually start with miles davis, instead.

why davis?

because we're still in the jazz era. it's all jazz - blues, rock, prog, psychedelic, punk, experimental, techno. it all comes from jazz in the end. it's fun to hyper-specify and over market it, but somebody is going to have to sit down when capitalism finally collapses and try to figure this out, and at the end of the day, it's all jazz. that's the form. that's the style; the cliche is that it's the only american art form.

miles davis is the kevin bacon of modern music. still. anybody worth mentioning still connects to davis, even if punk (particularly) only has a few bottlenecks. the drummer from ministry actually joined king crimson for a while, for example. everything else connects relatively readily, if you start at the beginning of davis' career and just plow through, link by link. once the jazz world gets thoroughly explored, there are key links to rock music through john mclaughlin and chick corea. mclaughlin connects to the entire rock scene through page, clapton and others, and corea (through di meola) connects to the entire progressive rock world. the rieflin link isn't the only link to punk, which isn't dead yet, but it may be the one i use in the end. eno will get there first, at the very least through jah wobble, if not through devo. you get the point. in the end, peter christopherson and genesis p'orridge connect to pink floyd through hipgnosis, which connects to modern techno through coil, if nothing else comes up first (i'm sure i'll get there through krautrock first).

this is not going to be like the genesis discography i was doing, which was far more directed and focused. this is a web. so, i'm going to start with

- a list of official records by the artist, chronologically (that would start with the new sounds, 1951)
- only after i've sorted through all albums chronologically, will i move a list of other appearances by the artist, on other records  (that would start with charlie parker in 1945, with davis) and on non-album singles and eps. some eps will be listed as albums.

i will not sort through all of the albums by the artist at the same time but will traverse the liner notes of each record, only coming back to it at the end.

so, if i start with the new sounds (1951), i will first determine if i should get this album on cd or not by sampling it via mp3 or, more likely, over youtube. if i decide the record should be in the cd collection, i will find a way to get it. if i decide it shouldn't, i will leave it in the web as an mp3 release only. there are some artists that i will skip altogether, and who will not appear in the web at all, but will appear in liner  notes without a corresponding hyperlink to an artist page.

the web will start with a searchable launch page, and an index page for each artist. first will be davis. opening the artist page for miles davis will sequentially list each record as they come up, starting with the new sounds (i have about a dozen davis cds, mostly from the fusion period, which was very important for the development of psychedelic rock music, which is the kind of music i grew up with). opening the page for the new sounds will link to mp3s of the record on the 5 tb drive that can be streamed by launching a playlist, whether i bought it on cd or not, as well as a list of liner note credits, which are:

Miles Davis – trumpet
Jackie McLean – alto saxophone, tracks 1 & 2
Sonny Rollins – tenor saxophone
Walter Bishop, Jr. – piano
Tommy Potter – double bass
Art Blakey – drums

Label - Prestige (PRLP 124)
Producer: Bob Weinstock

each of these credits will either launch to their own pages or have no link, but a note that says not featured in the music web. in fact, each of these should have their own pages. non-links will be rare and would indicate an artist i don't think is substantive or important and has few links. unimportant or unsubstantive artists with multiple links to substantive artists (ex: abba) will have their own pages, but only traverse through selected links. in truth, it will be rare for the web to ever halt.

after analyzing and reviewing this first davis record, i will not immediately move to the next davis record (i will need to wait until i exhaust the traversed options and get back to davis) but will instead open the jackie mclean page, where it will first list the first jackie mclean record, which i will again need to analyze to determine if it should be in the collection or only analyzed over mp3/flac. there will be a link to that page, nonetheless.

presenting....jackie mclean (1955) has the following credits:

Jackie McLean – alto saxophone
Donald Byrd – trumpet
Mal Waldron – piano
Doug Watkins – bass
Ronald Tucker – drums

i will not continue through jackie mclean's discography until i return to it, but will instead move to donald byrd's. donald byrd's first solo release was in 1955, which has the following credits:

Donald Byrd - trumpet
Bernard McKinney - euphonium
Yusef Lateef - tenor saxophone
Barry Harris - piano
Alvin Jackson - bass
Frank Gant - drums

the next link would be to bernard mckinney, who i do not believe ever released a solo record. as such, the list would shift to appearances, instead. his 1955 appearance happens to be the first. if it was not, we would rewind to the earliest. as there is no earlier appearance, the next is a 1957 appearance on The Cool Sound of Pepper Adams. this would link directly to the album page, which has the following credits:

Pepper Adams – baritone saxophone
Bernard McKinney – euphonium
Hank Jones – piano
George Duvivier – bass
Elvin Jones – drums

the next link would be to pepper adams, whose first record was called baritones and french horns and has the following credits:

Baritones (recorded April 20, 1957), also released as Dakar under John Coltrane's name

John Coltrane – tenor saxophone
Cecil Payne – baritone saxophone - except track 4
Pepper Adams – baritone saxophone
Mal Waldron – piano
Doug Watkins – bass
Art Taylor – drums

so, now we've gone from davis to coltrane, and can jump to the 1957 record coltrane (the earliest coltrane i currently have on cd is the 1958 soultrane),

John Coltrane – tenor saxophone
Johnnie Splawn – trumpet on "Bakai", "Straight Street", "While My Lady Sleeps", "Chronic Blues"
Sahib Shihab – baritone saxophone on "Bakai", "Straight Street", "Chronic Blues"
Red Garland – piano on side one
Mal Waldron – piano on side two
Paul Chambers – bass
Albert "Tootie" Heath – drums

....and i would just keep gong until i get to a dead end.

- johnnie splawn is apparently only on this record. so, go to
- sahib shihab - the jazz we heard last summer
- john jenkins - alto madness
- walde legge
- dizzy gillespie - afro
- quincy jones - jazz abroad
.
.

quincy jones opens up in the 70s and 80s, for example through his work with michael jackson. michael jackson will have many links, including to paul mccartney and eddie van halen, which will take me into the rock world. etc. mccartney will go to lennon to bowie (eventually) to reznor (eventually) to the aphex twin (eventually). so, we've moved from davis to rdj already, and this is probably not the shortest path.

eventually, the links will dry up, and i will need to go back to quincy jones, and move to the next record, etc, which will take me down some other path.

now, i may not decide to traverse jackie mclean to start. i might choose sonny rollins, instead. i have some free will as to which path i want to traverse.

i hope the idea is clear, and i will be starting with davis as soon as i get the system set up.

i have a few more things coming in for the bathroom tomorrow, but both the bathroom and kitchen are essentially done, up to installing a few remaining items. those videos should be up by the end of the weekend.

there remains no discernible business case for another pipeline to bc (although that's not my concern. i am concerned about the environmental effects.) and there is essentially no possibility of a private company stepping in. i'm not worried about this.

carney is probably trying to create competition with an expansion to keystone, which i also oppose, and which is dangerous and stupid and would rightfully get him assassinated if the americans weren't a bunch of pansies nowadays.
because airports aren't infrastructure. apparently.

canada spent decades fighting off the vultures at the imf, only to sleepwalk into their parasitic control, in fear of empty threats by donald trump. we are the dumbest fucking country in the world.

comments by outside politicians warning canada not to be naive in it's interactions with authoritarian regimes are themselves naive. canada was at one time many decades ago somewhat of a haven for liberalism, but it has been sliding into the worst kind of authoritarianism for many, many years and has in truth already arrived at that point several years ago. canadians should be on the streets protesting and striking against these kinds of laws, but the reality is that few people here attach much value to the freedom that we used to have, and the people of this country flatly deserve the outcome they get.

why don't venues just post basic show lists anymore?

sorting through an instagram or facebook feed to try to figure out what's happening in a specific place on a specific day is tedious and in truth almost impossible. they don't even have search buttons anymore. it's like they expect everybody to be constantly scrolling through their pages on their phones and read all of their posts within minutes of them being posted. maybe that works for losers that are stuck to their phone 24/7, but normal people would prefer to just look at a fucking calendar for ten minutes a week and avoid getting eaten by their phones. why is that hard to figure out?

these instagram feeds are completely out of order and entirely chaotic, forcing you to sort through weeks worth of posts to plan a weekend. it's so tedious and boring that it's not worth it.

a return to a simple calendar format where people can look up events by date and place rather than have no choice but to get bombarded by a newsfeed they don't want to read is much needed.
canada's courts often don't operate on actual law, they look for predetermined outcomes and then seek for arguments to uphold them. this is a prime example of that backwards operating process, and it has the potential to backfire.

a petition by alberta to separate does not fall under the traditional concept of the duty to consult, which is about land or resource use, but is rather strictly within the confines of how the colonial state operates. further, the law is clear that a duty to consult is not a duty to listen. it's consequently not entirely clear what the court even ordered. does alberta need to consult with indigenous groups before they secede or before they have a referendum? does this apply to any or all refrerenda? do they need to consult again if the referendum passes? in an attempt to quickly dispense of something it doesn't like in the easiest way possible, the court just handed indigenous groups a veto over potentially anything at all.

for example, i could see indigenous groups using this ruling to argue against patriation, which is fundamentally the same thing from the indigenous perspective.

i don't see what role that indigenous groups should have in colonial governance, other than through democratic participation. their treaty rights should and must be transferred to whatever entity the colonial state puts in charge, but the colonial state needs to govern it's own affairs in it's own ways, it can't be forced to ask indigenous groups how to run itself.

this again traces back to poor selection criteria determined by the trudeau government. the court matters. if you pick poor justices, you run the serious risk of ending up as a failed state.
this is horrific.

i'm so used to ordering something and having it land in vancouver, that i had to make sure it was actually right when i saw that this package landed in montreal. but, it makes sense, i guess - if ordering something from ikea over amazon is actually shipped from sweden, which nobody would really expect.
if one wants to argue that the inflation is due to policies made by the president, that doesn't actually matter. the responsibility still falls on congress. perhaps an argument could be made that republican members of congress enabled the president to enact those policies, voted for them or did not vote against them; insofar as that may be true, it would be an evasion of congressional responsibility, and the correct outcome is for those republican members to be held accountable by voters for enabling the president.

members of congress cannot be allowed to blame it on the president and the media should aggressively go after members of congress that try to shift the blame for their own negligence to the president.
if americans are frustrated by inflation, the correct thing for them to do is to take it out on their congressional representative and vote for members of congress that run on party platforms to pass bills in congress to address it.

it has essentially nothing to do with the president.

Tuesday, May 12, 2026

i was hoping to be able to get over to detroit for some movement after party festivals this year, but the hold up around opening the bridge (and the fact that it would cost $30 to get back and forth on the bus now) means there's no affordable/feasible way across the bridge (i don't want to pay $120 on bridge tolls. that's a non-starter.) and i'll have to stay here in my room and complain about canada being boring instead.
hey, give the guy a break. his girlfriend just ran off with another closeted guy. or did i hear that wrong?

the truth is that meritocracy is just another failed utopian ideology that has no basis in empirical reality. it does not exist now, and it has never existed. frankly, i'm not convinced of the merits of meritocracy, but it doesn't matter, because all utopian ideologies are impossible.

what i'm interested in is empirical reality, not abstract utopian theory. what empirical reality tells me is that we live in an idiocracy and not a meritocracy and this is all pointless nonsense. the school system is largely for the rich, and it largely prepares women to do what is historically women's work, anyways.

don't get upset. just have a cigar. you're gonna go far.

and just remember that you need to be trusted by the people that you lie to, so that when they turn their backs on you, you have the chance to put the knife in.

that bro trust is key to "success" in backwards, idiocratic late capitalism.
