it is the views of people like hofstadter that will survive, not the specious & revisionist boomer views that will soon be thrown in the dustbin they belong in.
populism was a nativist, christian, right-wing, evangelical movement to it's core that had more to do with a religious conservative "awakening" than a worker's movement on the left. i would have vehemently opposed it then, and i denounce all attempts to whitewash and sanitize the history into something presentable. this can't be salvaged, no matter how much the boomers insist on it.
their parents were right, and it is their parents that will write the history, not them.
