it turns out that there are a lot of mirrors on the market right now that do this in one step, and came with 15 or more lights around the mirror, for about the same price. this is a better option, but there's two drawbacks.
first, i need to be able to replace the bulbs, which the manufacturers are often coy about. the lights are generally wired in series; think of christmas lights. that's awful. i need to be able to replace each light one by one, or this would be a stupid thing to buy. i've put a question out to a specific manufacturer to ask.
second, the state of the devices is disappointing. these devices have touchscreens and are designed to look like phones. so why can't i zoom in like i would on a phone? but that seems superfluous as well. that said, i'm looking at also getting a smaller makeup mirror that does this, but it would be more useful if the wall mirror did it on it's own.
the future ought to be in smart mirrors with stub versions of android installed in the mirror, but we're not there yet.
