there is a private sector bus over, but it's $15 both ways and it has no bicycle rack and the hours are shit.
what i'm going to do as i find venues is go back for the last five years on a venue-by-venue basis and try to figure out what i missed. i'll point out the shows i would have gone to, and take note of some of the shows i can say i would have skipped, but noted existed.
i have mentioned before that due to changes that have occurred, including changes in my age, i may find myself most interested in techno & classical music. i don't listen to rap music, i don't listen to folk music, i don't listen to heavy metal, i don't listen to indie-pop or pop-punk and i don't listen to opera. those are the big NOOOOOOOOOOs that will cause me to get up and walk out of somewhere. my understanding is that they also, together, compose the entirety of the alternative music scene at this point, leaving me with minimal options i would find interesting. i might listen to pop music in principle, but pop music has been garbage for decades.
i don't want to shit on gen z too much. i have not had the opportunity to acquaint myself with very many members of gen z, as i have broadly considered born in the 90s to be a red flag to stay ten feet away from. i'm transgendered. they'll lock me up for saying hello to a 16 year old, and i've had more than a few knocking on my door, because i look like i'm 20. still. i just don't answer that door. that pretty girl across the street ten years ago must be in her late 20s now and i hope she figured things out and i hope she understands the complete and total stonewall, in hindsight. nope. you're not getting me on that. not even on a bullshit charge that never happened. no fucking way.
if you can get into the show, we can talk there. don't follow me around. don't try to talk to me on the street. i am too old now to tell the difference between 15 and 25 by eyesight alone, i need to id you, and i'm not going to do that.
so, i don't know any of these kids, i've never said so much as a fucking word to any of them, and i don't want to jump to conclusions, a priori. i'll have to figure this out. but i'm gen x, and i could barely tolerate most millennials. i expect to notice a sizable generation gap for the first time in my life, decide the kids are shit and just go to the goddamned symphony instead. i expect to be hot enough to go dancing, still, but i wasn't sure for a while. i'm going to have to shake the stalkers off by just existing.
i'm not going to like music popular amongst young people at this point and i don't really give a fuck. i just hope i have options that do cater to my tastes, and i'm able to find some shows that aren't the symphony. if not, it can be a fun night to schedule symphonies around techno shows.
the struggle in 2026 is going to be finding interesting art rock shows, which wasn't the case when i left off in 2020.
