i want to correct a public health misperception.

there is an air-headed chauvinistic, macho belief that being overweight is ok if you're muscular, and only bad if you're fat. these airheads will even criticize the public health models by arguing it stigmatizes masculinity, and attempts to clinicize them for being strong.

there is no scientific basis whatsoever for the idea that being overweight is less harmful if you're muscular.

excess weight s excess weight. it doesn't matter if you're muscular of flabby, you're still fat and need to lose weight. weight loss goals are absolute and not mitigated by converting fat to muscle. that's a myth.

muscle building diets will give you a heart attack the same way any other high fat diets will.\

calorie restriction is the only correct path to a long and healthy life.
