what it says in the christian bible - the revelation, which was written in greek, rather than aramaic - is that israel will be destroyed from the east. i always laugh at these christians that think russia means the east; in fact, russia is to the west of israel. rather, everybody living in israel at the time would have known that the east meant the persians, the ancestors of today's iranians.

so, what do the evangelicals actually want? do they want to support israel as a colonial state and have it take over the region and bomb the iranians? i mean, you could naively assign that to the generals (although larry aptly described why that's wrong), but what about the evangelicals, who you couldn't even get to vote at all until reagan?

what the evangelicals actually want is the second coming, the return of jesus, who will separate the worthy from the damned on judgement day. and, in order for that to happen, the temple must be destroyed, by the beast from the east. which is iran.

so, this idea of evangelical support for israel is sort of a double-edged sword, like jesus' wacky tongue, in the psychedelic visions that describe the prophecies - they want to ensure israel exists....so it can be destroyed. and, by who? by iran.

@jessica murray  basically they want  Armageddon to come , on the plains of Meggido and all that jazz so Jesus will some again and lead righteous ones to heavenly gardens… Funny thing is they are all basically anti semites of the worst kind. If you ask them if Jews will be taken to heaven , since Jesus showed on this plane as Jew,  they will tell you ( as long as you are not TV, journo etc)  they will all convert …. Lmao.

@Digital Communist  these weird contradictions are pretty standard in europeanized interpretations of christianity, and it's partly because it was never an organic thing in that part of the world. the original christians were, of course jews, themselves. but, the parts of the world where christianity was an actual thing on the ground were egypt and syria, not western europe. in europe, christianity came in via imperialism, feudalism and violent conquest - and was never really successful in converting substantial portions of normal people. so, there was this motif in the middle ages about the jews killing jesus, which is the central point of the religion - christianity is incoherent without the crucifixion, but that doesn't matter in the westernized versions, because it was never anything besides a tool of domination. i'm not going to go down the rabbit hole on this and accuse the british of doing this as a means of control, but it does serve that purpose, still, even today. so long as people think jesus is coming back any day, they're apt to be less concerned about materialist conditions in their physical lives.

@jessica murray  British came late into whole jesus game, nor it was basis of their imperial conquest. Theirs was commercial imperialism , even from the early days their ruling class  held fairly cynical view . Sprinkled with racial theories of the era , Darwin and all that… Various imperial Chinese  dynastic eras are similar in approach…On the other hand , Portuguese, Spanish,  Arabs ( yes Islam is unreformed Old Testament religion)  really did it in high gear , lmao.

and, it's of course worth pointing out that the spanish and arabs were both mostly looking for gold, even if they were directed by their respective religious overlords in their journeys to do so. the religion was central to most of their atrocities, as it formed the justification for them. but, from the time the arabs headed across the desert to the time the spaniards crossed the atlantic, they were always looking for gold....

@Digital Communist  it seemed to post in chunks, but then deleted again when in one piece, so let's try this sequentially. google doesn't tell you what the filters are, so you have to experiment...

@Digital Communist  this isn't working, suggesting it might be being deleted by a live person, rather than filtered by a computer. ok, let me give it some time, then.

@Digital Communist  yeah, it's sort of a half-truth. the british have always been weird. it's true that the british people never embraced christianity the way they did in italy or france, but the british aristocracy was perhaps the most cynical of the bunch. so, it's true that the british were a commercial power, but what that means is that their use of religion as a control mechanism was always starkly cynical, not that it wasn't there. when the puritans left britain, a big part of the reason is that they thought the british state was horribly corrupt - but the fact that they existed in britain is a consequence of the tactics of control used by the state, which created them in the first place.

( to use a twisted metaphor, it's like god's creations realizing how sadistic their creator was. as mentioned, i don't think that this idea that zionism was invented to control british christians is actually true - but it might as well have been, and it's the kind of thing that people in the future might decide is obvious, in the absence of sufficient source material.)...

the more i've looked into this...

brushing and flossing really probably aren't the best way to clean your teeth, whether they're crooked or not. it's a kind of unsophisticated, brute force attack, and for a lot of people is probably creating more problems than solving.

these newer approaches seem to be superior, and will probably replace the older tactics altogether, in time.

but, i need to take it one thing at a time - if i can't get into the curved space behind my teeth with a brush, i need something to spray the area with, instead.
you can also buy these low frequency things that shake it off....

that's the sort of thing i need to look at, as brushing isn't going to help, in that area - and i have to sort of get it and back off before i ruin my gums even more.
so, i mentioned that my crooked teeth were getting worse and it was probably driving the recession...

it's worst on the lower incisors, to the point that one of them is going to get crushed and just fall out, eventually. i don't seem to have extra teeth, but they're completely out of line at the top, as well, in an arrangement that you'd normally associate with extra teeth. on the bottom, the canines are both shifting directly inwards, which is just destroying those little incisors.

i've looked into how to fix this, and it sounds like the cure is worse than the disease, especially at my age, and especially especially in the presence of osteopenia. i'd have to dissolve the bone in the jaw and rebuild it. that's not actually feasible.

but, i've been slowly realizing that i can't brush them anymore, either. it's not that bad in the front, but i'm noticing what is probably the first actual plaque buildup that i've ever had in my life on the inside, and i can't seem to stop it. i've tried rolling up toilet paper and trying to kind of polish it off, and it seemed like it was working, but it wasn't. i've tried flipping the toothbrush over perpendicular to the teeth, and the head is still too big.

if i could find a small enough brush, that would probably do it, but where - and at what expense?

rather, i think i'm going to pull the trigger on a waterpik system when the check gets here (and it had better get here by tuesday at the latest). the basic physics of the shape of the teeth, due to being crushed, is that they're now curved and therefore unreachable with a brush. maybe there's some other answer, but i don't think there is one - i'm going to have to spray them down, instead.

i've mused about genetic approaches to trying to fix my gums, but that's not going to fix that one incisor, which i'm just waiting to fall out. i'll have to bring it up with the dentist in september - is it better to pull a crushed tooth like that, to try to save the rest of them?
and, where did iran get all of these weapons to ship to venezuela from, exactly?

if the russians or chinese wanted to ship them weapons, they'd just fly them in.

and, why exactly isn't the united states intercepting this supposedly dangerous vessel?

as mentioned, the vessel is probably full of oil, and the oil is probably destined for houston. now, it seems as though we're going to ship weapons to iran, in return. which sounds familiar, doesn't it?
no, all the recent brown immigrants to canada are not going to vote for a fag like jusin trudeau.

rather, they're going to vote for a good manly dumbass like doug ford...

again: this sounds strange to americans, right? immigrants voting for conservatives? what? but, it's well understood that these are the demographic boundaries, here. there's been influential books written about it. all the strategists know all about it.

it's not an ethnic characteristic, which is kind of the stupid mistake that liberals make about brown people and their voting preferences. if you listen closely, you even hear a sense of entitlement in the liberal party about it.

rather, there's two simple facts underlying it:

1) brown people tend to come from more conservative cultures, and our conservative party is actually a conservative party. they readily identify with it, because it's leaps and bounds the closer thing to their cultural value system. they don't have the baggage that the republicans have, either.

2) our immigration system was overhauled by stephen harper and jason kenney (now the premier of alberta) in the 00s to actually target conservatives, and i see no evidence that the liberals have fiddled with it at all, since. so, it's not just that recent immigrants tend to be more conservative in general because they come from more conservative cultures, it's that the immigrants we pick and fast track are specifically chosen and fast-tracked because they're conservatives. our system identifies conservative immigrants and targets them, because it was designed by conservative politicians - they've gotten what they wanted.

the election of doug ford was a little weird in the sense that it was the first time these changes were made obvious, but it didn't surprise anybody and the projections are that his coalition is likely stable for the near future. that's the new toronto, as redesigned by jason kenney.

the question is whether the white flight driven by the pandemic is acting as a catalyst or not...
i would be happy to move to a less expensive downtown toronto core and thrive in the decay.
upwards of 200,000 people have left toronto in the last year and a half.
here's an open question - what kind of demographic changes are all of these people moving in and around toronto going to create?

if i understand correctly, what's happening is that the money is fleeing the city, even if the result is higher property values (and empty or half empty properties). it's becoming a city of renters, as all of the property owners flee the city. that's not that different than what happened in detroit in the 70s, although the starting demographics are radically different.

i'm not going to make any predictions at this point because i haven't seen any useful data, but i wonder if the liberal strongholds in toronto (which were defined mostly by older white families) might have just thinned themselves out to the point that other parties might find themselves more competitive. i mean, that seems to be the basic movement - wealthy white liberals are moving into conservative ridings, and probably not in large enough numbers to swing them.

it seems counterintuitive right now...

...but the main beneficiary of this migration, as the city hollows out to leave behind less wealthy recent immigrants and white renters, may end up being doug ford. that's his base, and they may have been handed the city by liberals trying to get out as fast as they can.

why, exactly, did toronto city council vote to extend mask laws (the lack of live music in toronto in the near future is being pushed down from the province), given that over 70% of the population has received a first dose?

what is the logic, here?

is that proportional?

and, is anybody in toronto willing to launch legal action to determine if a judge thinks it is or not?

it seems a little over the top, if you ask me - even if the functional restrictions on a return to normal behaviour are coming directly from doug ford and are out of the city's jurisdiction.
i'm about 50% done what i was doing.

hopefully, it's just a few more hours.
i won't be assimilated to your herd mentality.

and, you're wasting your time trying.

ease the restrictions, already.
and, listen - the more you try to convince me to get vaccinated, the more likely i am to avoid doing it.

i don't have a religious reason. i don't have a health concern. i'm not afraid of the vaccine and, while i don't think it's going to be effective in the long run, i'm sure the probabilities being published are vaguely accurate.

i don't think vaccines cause autism.

so, you can throw this list of things at me, and i'm just going to deny every one of them.

rather, i'm just making a principled point about self-autonomy - if you're going to try to force me to get vaccinated, i will resist simply because you're trying to tell me what to do.

so, fuck off.

that, and i don't think it's appropriate to mandate vaccination for a mild flu-like illness - i think that's an abuse of power, and i think it needs to be called out for what it is, and resisted on that basis alone.

this is not a game of chicken, either - the government needs to pick it's battles, here. 'cause i'm perfectly happy to cost it a lot of money and waste a lot of it's time, if it insists on being retarded.
TRUDEAU ARRESTS OPPOSITION LEADER MAXIME BERNIER

it doesn't matter if it's true or not - i mean, our side doesn't care if things are true or not, so why should yours?
hey vlad...

you should make a big deal about bernier. not because it matters much, or will get you anywhere directly, but because the juxtaposition would be embarrassing to the pmo.

bernier isn't any more relevant in canada than alexei navalny is in russia (in fact, the comparison is pretty apt.), but that's just the point.
we're being converted by a prime minster that thinks he's a king and that thinks he has the right to make these decisions for "his people".

that's what's happening.

and, please, people - fight this in court. don't get stupid.
did you notice that all of the pro-maskers supposedly interviewed in that article were women?

that's the peer-pressure: women talking about how much they love wearing masks.

this was a start. this is how it starts...
so, here comes the propaganda.

i've just been telling people i have asthma when they ask why i'm not wearing a mask (which is true), but we're going to have to defeat this in court - and it's time we stop being naive about what just happened and how long it's going to take to undo it.

they have taken away every single one of your rights.

and, you're not going to get most of them back without a fight.

this struggle to restore our rights will define the rest of our lives - it's become the issue of our times.

maxime bernier is not somebody that i would normally stand up for or care much for at all, but his rights to freedom of association are paramount in a free society, and i would call on the rcmp to uphold the rule of law and release him immediately.
what do i think about these definitions?

well, i don't think the role of government is to keep people safe, and i'm going to unload on you as a fascist if you drop a line like that to my face. if that's what you think, you are my enemy and need to be destroyed.

do i think the role of government is to act as a layer for capital to buy legislation? well, there's ought to be and actually is, right? i don't think that ought to be true, but i realize it actually is in a capitalist state. and, because i'm a radical socialist and not a reformist, i don't actually think it's useful to try to regulate capitalism - and even largely agree with the libertarian right on a lot of points, in their arguments that trying to regulate capital just makes it worse (although they of course don't articulate it that way, we're basically making the same arguments about regulatory capture and inefficiency).

i'm an anarchist, so i don't want a totally planned economy. there's some role for worker communes, as well.

but, the role of government should be to centralize production in some abstraction - not to write laws that keep us safe (which is a mentality that needs to be eradicated) or to sell policy to the highest bidder (which is the status quo that needs to be overturned).

but, i'll usually align with realistic liberals over ideological conservatives, when they exist - which is scarce, nowadays. a lot of socialists won't...
if america had a functioning education system, it wouldn't need to concern itself with the premise that big donors might confuse stupid people into voting against their own interests by buying political ads - people would be able to figure it out.
in strict definitional terms, it is conservatives (tories/democrats) that should align with restrictions on campaign contributions and third-party advertising to protect the aristocracy and populace from corruption by capital (to "keep the people safe") and liberals (whigs/republicans) that should align with the bourgoisie in allowing for capital to buy legislation and advance it's own interests (due to free speech and private property rights).

and, then, socialists are supposed to be about nationalizing capital and putting it under the control of parliament (or otherwise democratizing it) so that the issue no longer exists at all.

i support the per-vote subsidy and would like to bring it back, but i don't have an opposition to liberalizing campaign finance laws and i don't oppose third-party advertising.

i do support a greater focus on critical thinking in public education. the cliche attributed to jefferson is what is really apt here:

a well-informed populace is a pre-requisite to a functioning democracy.

and, that is the problem, as it stands - not that third parties are allowed to advertise, but that americans are too stupid to figure out what is true and what isn't.
are you confused that ford wants to restrict campaign-advertising? you shouldn't be - i keep pointing out that canada, and ontario particularly, has something approaching a normal political spectrum, whereas the spectrum in the united states is bizarre and fucked...

most people in the world outside of the united states would associate draconian rules regarding advertising with the political right, and not with the political left. and, most of the world would associate free speech with the left, not the right.

unfortunately, the current pmo has been so americanized that it's trying to flip the spectrum over, and just getting confused stares from the conservative party - and the result is that we have a competition for who can be more conservative, under terms that americans would need somebody to explain to them.

but, our current campaign finance laws at the federal level were brought in by stephen harper and the conservatives, not by jean chretien and the liberals. chretien brought in a reasonable limit of $5000, but he replaced the lost income with a per-vote subsidy - which was actually an increase in funding, given that the liberals essentially always won the popular vote. when harper showed up, he got rid of the per-vote subsidy and slashed contributions to $1000.

well, conservatives are supposed to care about finances, and they're supposed to be concerned about corruption. i know that sounds strange to an american, but that's what being a conservative is supposed to be all about! it's liberals that are supposed to care a little less about strict budgeting, financial accountability and shady money - under the argument that restricting corruption just hurts the economy (which i agree with, mostly).

so, as a canadian, there's nothing confusing to me about this.

what i've always found so confusing is the american pseudo-left's pre-occupation with finance, as it's always made them sound very right-wing, to me. but, if you really study the history, it's a relic of the realignment process, and the fact that the democrats are, historically, the conservative party. american progressivism sounds strangely conservative a lot of the time because it is actually a historical conservative movement at it's core.
if the americans decide i need to get vaccinated to cross the border - despite statements by the white house that they wouldn't do that - is that an incentive to get vaccinated?

the answer right now is "not really". it's more along the lines of a disincentive to enter the united states.

i'm searching through listings right now, and while big venues may be filling up with corporate musicians, it may be a while before the kind of music i like starts back up again.

i mean, i'm not going to go see a concert in a hockey arena - i'm not interested in that. i like small scale venues, with obscure and independent artists. this appears to be a ways away from reopening.

we'll have to see. if something comes up and i can't miss it i'll have to make a decision: is it worth getting vaccinated for, or should i take the train to toronto instead?

chances are that i'll have plenty of time to make that decision.

but, for right now, i don't see any sort of incentive at all - i don't see anything worth crossing for. so, i'm going to continue to wait it out.
so, today's post is the 4 disc tetris compilation, which starts an idea rather than closes one.

there will be tetris releases starting around 2007.

======

the origins of the tetris project emerge in my records some time in mid-2006. i must have been filing some things on my hard drive, and wanting to put a bunch of the loose ends in the same folder, because what i remember is having a lot of loose tracks and trying to find a way to fit them together. the best commonality i could find in these tracks is that they all attempted to merge guitar music with electronic music, so i devised a project that would utilize these tracks by exploring this theme to it's fullest.

tetris is the idea of combining guitar music with technology. it just sat that way, for years, as a folder on my hard drive, with little progress towards actual completion.

when i set up the bandcamp site in 2010, i uploaded a number of these loose tracks under the album header 'tetris', with a promise to add tracks to it, slowly, until it completes. this was intended to be an eventual official record with an explicit techno flavour, and some tracks were, in fact, added to it. as of january, 2018, the majority of these tracks have been completed and re-released on my fifth or sixth records. so, this project has been dismantled, as it initially existed.

upon initial completion of my second period in may of 2015, i sat down to create a guitar volume. some work was completed on a mix tape of solo parts, but this was ultimately where i left off to go back to complete period 1. before i put it aside, i had decided on a three-volume set: a mix tape and a 2xcd set, with one cd being a tetris volume 1 (converted to an end-of-period compilation) and the other cd being of atmospheric, political and noise sections.

i didn't get back to this until late december, 2017 and sat down to create a tetris volume 1 as i had decided upon in 2015. but, what i started to realize as i was compiling it was that the reason that this connection presented itself amongst the scattered tracks i initially applied it to was that it is a fundamental aspect of my art - nearly every track i've written since 1998 takes the guitar through an exploration in the world of electronic music. i started to think more abstractly about it, this combination of technology with guitars, so that the definition fit across more genres than techno and idm. this wider interpretation of the project's mandate created a larger pool of tracks to choose from, and i eventually settled on two volumes for tetris: one with a faster tempo and more danceable tracks and one with a slower tempo and jazzier or more psychedelic tracks. some tracks that i identified as 'orchestral' were also put aside for future release on a later tetris volume.

the atmospheric disc wasn't initially contemplated of as a tetris release, it was rather meant to make the release an inclusive guitar works, as that is also a major component of my guitar presentation. but, my wider interpretation of the mandate allowed me to see that the tracks i had put aside for this compilation were also an exploration of guitars and technology. so, i created this disc as a tetris volume. a strategic decision was made to not include tracks on the first ambient works, but rather to defer to it as the ambient component of my second period guitar work.

i had also decided in late 2017 that i would create a compilation of guitar-only mixes for the lp sequence to close period 2, to draw special attention to the primary focus of my creations, which is the guitar work. i strongly contemplated releasing only disc 4 in this space of inri069, and leaving the other three for a later release, as a coherent multi-disc part tetris. however, the need to include inri071a in the tetris sequence necessitated releasing these tetris volumes in this space. further, a standalone release of disc 4 would also require a tetris number - it is certainly an integration of technology and guitars.

that makes inri071a tetris V. i've also decided that inri072, the orchestral works, should be tetris VI.

as a six volume set, this compilation touches upon nearly every track that was written between 1998-2003 and has guitars in it by placing it into one or more of these six slightly overlapping categories. as such, this is a comprehensive introduction to my first two periods, from the perspective of my work as a guitarist.

initially written and recorded between 1997-2003. this compilation idea was developed and expanded upon as an intended full record release between 2006 and 2011. reinterpreted, reconstructed and remixed between 2014-2018. sequenced over december, 2017 and january, 2018. disc released & finalized as lp018 and tetris I-IV on jan 7, 2018. as always, please use headphones.

this release also includes a printable jewel case insert and will also eventually include a comprehensive package of journal entries from all phases of production (2015, 2017-2018).

i have to keep reminding myself that my appetite is good and i'm gaining weight, which is not consistent with cancer of any sort.

but, the other option is that the osteopenia is a result of cancer spreading to the bone.

and, that's consistent with the anemia.

i'm probably not going to get out today, but i should get out soon.
by the time that you, as a consumer, get this wav file on your computer, it's been so badly degraded, anyways...

but, that's not true if you're listening to music that doesn't go through this destructive process by major label production teams.
i mean, that's what i'm trying to get across here - that the compression done by the producer is 100x worse than anything the mp3 algorithm could do, in the first place.
and, yes - i know that they record at 48 khz or higher,

it doesn't matter, if they sculpt 50% of the frequency range out and then compress the shit out of it, in the end.
they're selling you cds at 44.1/16, so you think it's actually pretty good, right?

see, that's where you go wrong with this...

if it's radio music, the sad and pathetic reality is that it's more like they're functionally upsampling a master done at 22 khz, 8 bit - so your mp3 compression isn't degrading the sound nearly as much as you imagine that it is.

any artist that's actually taking advantage of cd quality audio isn't going to compress to mp3 well at all...
it is true that some of the more sound-conscious artists out there at least used to do things like create mixes for radio and mixes for cd/lp. you'll also find tv mixes back in the mtv/muchmusic days, and i've heard of corporate rock musicians mixing for mp3 (that was even really what the loudness wars were actually about). so, don't take my statements too broadly....

but, generally speaking, if an artist is marketed for radio play then the product that you buy on a physical media in the store is mixed to play on am radio, and plugging it into an expensive sound system is pointless because the source is intentionally garbage.

then, when you compress it it doesn't matter - because it's shit to begin with.

that is why people can't tell the difference - because they're listening to trash.
well.

what kind of music do i make?

the answer is that it's electro-classical music with jazzy and bluesy flairs and only vague references to rock music instrumentation (i play electric guitar. that's not very "classical". but, besides that, i'm a composer.), and while i don't think i need the dynamic range of 24 bits to get those super quiet oboes and flutes, i do insist that you try not to butcher the frequency range too badly, please.
again, we did the ping-pong delay example, but this is another example of something that would never be released by a corporation, in terms of sound quality. this mix is so ridiculously full of data over the entire frequency range that when i tried to reduce the size of the file by running it through a flac algorithm (which works like a zip compressor in that it runs through the file looking for zeroes and replaces them with a variable to save space. so if your wav file has a sequence of 100 zeroes, the flac algorithm replaces those 100 zeroes with the number 100. the decoder will then need to reconvert that 100 into 100 zeroes before it sends it to your sound card.) it decreased by less than 2%.

(edit: it's the middle part that had the impossible compression ratio, not the whole file. but, the vst version, as a whole, compressed less than 25%. that is, the size of the flac is about 79% of the size of the wav)

a corporate music producer would take a major scalpel to this in cutting out 30% of the sound, which would just be butchering the reverb and a lot of the detail in the middle of the mix. and, you consequently can't hear a lot of it via the mp3 stream i'm posting here - you just need to get a lossless version, that's all there is to it.

i'd challenge anybody to find me another piece of music that compresses less than this over flac:

to put it another way, this is the actual pathetic truth - corporate music is so badly produced, in general, that you can run it through massive compression and not lose anything important.

but, what this really is about is garbage in / garbage out, and it's not an argument for the parity of the technology, in a broader sense.
the ranges of frequency that mp3 removes are not chosen at random - frequency bands that are ignored by your kind of standard or "normal" corporate pop/rock/rap producers are taken out rather consciously. mp3 programmers refer to this as "psycho-acoustics".

it's not just the high and low bands that are outside of your frequency range, it's also a fairly large amount of frequency bands that corporate pop producers cut out on purpose. so, it's actually very true that you can't tell the difference if you're listening to celine dion or taylor swift or something - because the production process intentionally cuts out the frequencies that the mp3 removes, which is why the mp3 removes it.

but, if you're listening to abstract techno that's mixed by non-professionals (or professionals that don't know better), anything labeled "classical" or "jazz" or even interesting psychedelic or progressive rock then things actually do exist in those frequency bands - and i demonstrated the point when i posted that ping-pong effect, which the compression algorithm just demolished. you will lose a lot of music with an mp3 if you're listening to these types of music because they weren't mixed with the corporate pop techniques that the mp3 compression is designed to take advantage of.

so, the process is like this:

1) corporate pop producers eliminate specific frequency bands, because they get in the way (and can't be produced on am radio, for example)
2) the designers of the mp3 algorithm realized that and took advantage of it. so, they cut out the same ranges that were cut out during the corporate pop production process. they call this "psycho-acoustics", which is just a pretentious term to describe what i'm describing.
3) creative musicians then come along and they don't cut those ranges out when they're producing their music.
4) somebody uses mp3 compression to compress these songs, unaware of what i'm trying to explain to you.
5) large amounts of the music disappears, and they don't understand why.

a good rule of thumb is this: if the music you like is released on a major record label, it probably doesn't matter if you use mp3 or flac. but, if you're listening to anything that is remotely interesting at all, you're really better off avoiding any kind of lossy compression - because the mp3 algorithm didn't intend for you to use it to compress the music you're listening to.

and, i'm an expert on this topic - you're not.

so, i hope that's clear.
if you can't tell the difference between mp3 and flac, it's because the music you're listening to is boring.

i listen to interesting music, and, to me, it's immediately obvious.

in theory, if your computer is fast enough and smart enough, you should be able to feed it a virus and blood sample and have it print you a dose of antibodies. that would eliminate the concept of viruses.

but, do you see any quantum computers around?

i don't.

so, we're going to have old people dying of viruses, still, for many decades to come.
if you think that the elderly will ever be able to live "normal lives" free from the fear of viruses, then you're living in a fantasy reality and need to wake up.

that wasn't true before, and it's never going to be true in the future - not until we can develop personalized medicine kits built into 3d-printing devices, driven by quantum computers.

and, that's a long ways away.
ok, so it's like the flu - you'll need to get vaccinated on a yearly basis, if that's how you want to do this. this is not surprising. or you could just stop worrying about a mild virus and move on...

can we stop being retarded about this and open the borders and the bars, already, then?

so, are they going to examine the bones of those 215 kids from the residential school to determine a cause of death?
so, let me finish these narratives from two weeks ago and post them where they should be, so i can shut this down and reboot the machine.
......and, i would encourage advertisers in the province to ignore the government's fascist tactics, which break the spirit of the law if not the rule of it, and go ahead and advertise in the banned period, anyways.

if they want to do draconian things like this, we have an obligation to defy them as best we can.
i haven't looked at the decision or the bill closely, but if the judge decided that the bill was a restriction on speech rights, the judge was probably right - and the bill should probably be struck down.

free speech is paramount in a free society, and restrictions on speech rights should be minimal to non-existent. that's why we have a constitution - that's what it's for. and, it seems to me like, in striking the law down, the system is probably working properly.

it should really be a cause for celebration, that the judiciary was able to successfully overturn an unconstitutional bill - that's a victory for the rule of law.

the legislature should respect that and learn from it in refraining from writing further laws that attempt to restrict speech, not try to strongarm a response through.
i'm not actually opposed to citizens united, and i would call on the government of ontario to respect the constitution and not use the notwithstanding clause to overrule what is really a triviality in a functioning democracy.

the reason that the fake left hates citizen united is that they've gutted education to the point that people are unable to articulate anything that wasn't placed in their heads by media. while they have a point in arguing for the dominating influence of media in elections (see manufacturing consent), their solution (to restrict speech they don't like, because it might influence people in ways they don't like) is horrible and wrong-headed. so, i have a libertarian-left position on this, which is consistent with my broad political philosophy. i don't self-identify as a "progressive", and i never have.

this idea that ford cares about restricting media in the election is a farce - he's trying to do away with the constitution, and he's done a number of things (including his restrictions on travel across provincial boundaries) that seem to be designed with the intent to attack constitutional norms. he seems to be aligned with the federal government on this, and it doesn't seem to be particularly random.

in the end, if our leaders don't want to follow the rule of law, then they lose the legitimacy to govern, and it's time to replace them.
i got my bone-related blood lab in the mail (still no check, though. hrmmn.) so i'm going to stop to clean today.

i'm very, very close to getting back to it, and when i do i'll start with uploading versions of inri076 and inri080. the projects in front of me are now going to be inri075, inri077 and inri078, and that will get me to the inri records compilations, which is the next pause.

while i suppose that another catastrophe may be in front of me still, it seems like i'm back to work. imminently.

as mentioned several times now, it's going to work like this:

- music over weekends
- alter-realities (starting in 1989 and hopefully stabilizing shortly. i didn't really start listening to much rock music until about 92 or 93, so i still have time) on fridays
- music journal catchups in the week (i have to do the diet thing, first)
these are important policy questions to discuss, as we awaken from the delusions of infinite growth.

how many people can canada actually support in a way that most people are comfortable? how much housing can we build? what are the limits around us?

these aren't empty questions, and they have derivable answers - we just need to build the models to understand it. and, we may have forgotten that this is the kind of thing government is supposed to do, rather than just act as a layer between taxation and corporate welfare.
so, maybe the colonial period in canada needs to be drawing to a close, then.

maybe that's a mental adjustment that people need to make - do you think that canada will continue to take in millions of people forever? let's start by realizing that that is unsustainable - that eventually canada will need to reduce immigration.

if we're having a housing crisis, and don't see an obvious way out of it, maybe it's time we stopped flying people in.

patchouli is pretty gross - and that's an objectively true, factual statement.

i'm sorry, but if you disagree then you're just wrong.
no, what i want to do is articulate myself as clearly as i can.

the palestinian-israeli conflict (which is not an arab-jewish conflict because the palestinians are not arabs, they're hebrews that converted to islam) is essentially rooted in a dumb argument over which religion gets to dominate the region. yes, there are complicated geopolitical realities at play, but i don't care about that in trying to understand the moral basis of the conflict, itself - which is utterly, amazingly, bafflingly stupid to it's core.

now, you can try to layer in concerns regarding ethnicity or other types of identity, but if you expect me to concede some kind of point by arguing that it's about race instead of religion (as though race is any less stupid or any fundamentally different a concept than religion), you're entirely misunderstanding the position i'm taking on the issue. ethnicity, race and religion are not exactly the same thing, but they're basically the same thing, and i'm not going to react to a stupid, tribalistic conflict about race any differently than i'm going to react to a stupid, tribalistic conflict about religion.

but, i need to reiterate the point - the fundamental point of conflict here is and always has been the religion. the racial issues are secondary, and hard to really define; i'm not going to completely discount the idea that race forms a component of the conflict, but if you're going to look me in the eye and say "this is about race, not religion", i'm going to tell you that you're both incorrect and ignorant - because palestinians and jews are both hebrews, to start with.

so, it's two clans of hebrews killing each other based on their religious beliefs. you might not realize that, and you might not see it that way, but it's because you don't understand it correctly, not because it's wrong.

both sides of the conflict are driven by far right, quasi-fascist paramilitary organizations. this is far more of a caricature of the israeli side than it is of the palestinian side, but it's true on both sides nonetheless.

they both want to wipe the other side out - neither wants co-existence or peace.

and, while it is true that the israelis generally kill more palestinians when it gets going, and i've consistently called for restraint (along with many others), the only fundamental reason that more palestinians die is that the israelis have better technology. if the situation were flipped over in terms of technology, we'd be talking about pogroms and invoking the holocaust. there's no fundamental moral dilemma here - there's just one horrible group with more power than the other horrible group, and that is utilizing that power because it can (and who's to say they shouldn't? if you have power, you should use it - which is why it's important to stop people and systems and organizations from gaining power.).

so, there isn't anybody to support - there's nobody to stand in solidarity with, there's no moral issue to uphold. it's just one group of savages fighting against another. and, i mean you can point to this abuse on that side, or that abuse on the other, but you're missing the forest for the trees - if you want to take anything approaching a moral position for the purposes of it being a moral position, you couldn't possibly support either of these parties, you'd have to look towards some other party as a mediator, to come in and keep them away from each other and offer suggestions to both sides, which is why i keep pointing to the secularists and the apostates.

but, something that's popping up recently is the idea of muslim-washing. i don't mean telling smelly arabs to take a fucking bath, i mean using supposed rights abuses (often dubiously or without context) against muslims to justify things like leaving parties that support shutting down oil pipelines that generate jobs in the region you represent. and, i'm far more concerned about this than i am about this stupid conflict over stupid things that will never end until the place gets fucking nuked.
it seems like ms. atwin has sold out.
i was very critical of ms. paul's policy platform, and her desire to make the party more focused on identity politics. and, here we are - the party is mired in an empty conflict about tribal identity politics, and it could tear it to the ground.

but, let me make a point clear.

i support ms paul in her solidarity with the government of michigan in it's goal to completely shut the line 5 enbridge pipeline down, and that is of actual meaning and concern to me in infinitely greater capacity than a stupid ethnic/religious conflict in a faraway land that i essentially don't care about at all.

and, i would staunchly question the environmental credentials of anybody that would choose to join the liberal party, in the wake of it's legal actions to try to keep line 5 running.
i stand with the apostates. as i always have.

they should bulldoze the al-aqsa mosque and turn it into a shopping mall.
what i would like to see is a secular driven political movement in the region with equal rights for all.

you will see no solidarity for islamists, or for religious zionists, from me.
see, this is exactly the kind of stupid bickering over irrelevant nonsense that i didn't want to see in a climate policy driven party.

climate change is a vote driver in canadian politics.

but, i ultimately don't care very much about the conflict in the levant (in a conflict between one type of right-wing extremism and another, and that has no relevance to my life whatsoever, i'll sit it out - but that could change if one of the parties adopts more appropriate political positions), and don't think it's worth destroying the party over - but, here we are.

the so-called "left" will never get anywhere, and i'd advise young people against wasting their time with it. we have an existential climate crisis on our hands, and they'd rather bicker about religion and ethnic nationalism.

so, with every new social media platform, we get closer and closer to it turning into a bizarre death cult, apparently.

and, they said it was going to separate us from our humanity. pfft.

but, what are the chances that it's some kind of cia psy-op designed to weed out the weak via a set of socially darwinian population control tactics? i'd say pretty high, really.

so, drink your koolad, kids.

or, kill yourself off with a social media challenge.

whatever. less mouths to feed...
if mr. trudeau wants to die on this hill, then great - good riddance.
and to open the U.S. border unilaterally if Canada refuses to participate.

good. that's what small-l liberals in canada hope to see from our friends in the united states - if they're going to drag their feet with illegal, unscientific charades designed to whip up anti-americanism to win votes, just tell the idiots in ottawa to fuck off, and open the border without them. small-l liberal forces on the ground can then agitate further from there, by creating incidents at the border and sending it through the court system, which will force them to follow the damned laws.

sleeping may be undesirable, but it's also unavoidable at times.

let's try to make it a long day, today.
i seem to have found some old noise programming from 2004 that i never used and forgot about. hrmmn.
ok, so i've got this all copied to my main drive, now. now, i need to organize it, condense it and copy it back to several other places.

today's post is the first blu ray flac disc, which has the first 69 releases on it.

===========

purchasing this release does not come with a download.

if you purchase all 6 of the above physical flac dvd disc box sets, i will replace the 6 dvds with one bd on request. note that inri069 will no longer be in the package in flac, but i can send you a personalized google drive share to compensate.

i think i need to clarify a confusion, here.

as a canadian citizen, the issue that is concerning to me is not what my own government says - these rules are not enforceable, and i'll happily be the one that has them struck down, if need be. i don't actually care what my own lawless government passes, and i'll be damned if i'll let them run rough shod over my inalienable, individual rights.

the problem is that the americans aren't letting people cross right now, meaning i can't go to the united states. i have no legal recourse with that - the canadian constitution does not apply at the us border, and i have no constitutional rights in that country.

so, the pmo can publish any baseless nonsense it wants - they have no authority to do any of it, and i have no intention of listening to a word they say.

but, i need the go ahead from the white house before i can try to cross over...

so, i'm going to ask biden to unilaterally lift the restrictions, and tell these corrupt idiots in ottawa to fuck off. we can let the courts do the rest, as we bring back the rule of law, and toss these crooks out on their ears.
there are some scenarios where you can tie testing to privileges. so, a boss, for example, could tell their employees they need to get vaccinated or tested to enter their property - which reduces to a question about property rights, rather than a question about vaccines.

but, you need to ask the police what their options are if a citizen merely refuses to get tested, and cites s. 7 in doing so. that's an extremely powerful statement in this country, and the police would be shattering the rule of law if they were to enforce testing by violence - enough that they'd belong in a jail cell for doing it. i'd end up very wealthy if that were to happen.

nor can the cops deport a citizen on the spot. i have papers - you can't turn me away.

they could try to arrest me, but that wouldn't last 14 days - it shouldn't last 14 minutes, but at most might last 14 hours.

what the cops can do is write you a ticket, which is inviting a constitutional challenge. and, frankly, i'd guess most cops would actually even realize that.

if you walk right by that cop, they'll probably just shrug -  and that's happens when an unlawful government refuses to abide by the rule of law, in passing unconstitutional dictates.

i'm not just being confrontational, here - my legal opinion is that you should just keep walking once you're cleared, and that 999 times out of a thousand, the cops won't even try to stop you.
these policies are ultra vires, invalid and of no force, whatsoever.

they do not exist.

just ignore them.
again - i promise you that i'm going to walk right by those border guards, and they can cuff me and put me in front of a judge if they don't like it.

so, i needed to synchronize my various backup files, first, and then back everything back up to the various places. it's this 100 gb folder with what's left on it that i have in slightly different versions in roughly 5 different places....

i'm just about done copying everything to my data drive. once it's properly filed, i can copy it back to the satellite spaces.
today's post is inr068, which is an attempt to make a contemporary release to put into the 2013-2018 space and represents the sum total of actual writing and recordings done in the basement studio on marion (rather than remixes, rearrangements and production work).

something similar will be necessary for this basement in the end, as well - which has been primarily a narration hideout up to this point.

===========

in the summer of 2013, two formative things happened at almost exactly the same time: my father died after a lengthy battle with brain cancer and i moved from ottawa, ontario to windsor, ontario. they were within a week from each other; my father died while i was camped out in a tim horton's on tecumseh, waiting to sign a lease and catch a bus back 'home'. but, dad was really the only remaining thing that made ottawa home, in the first place.

the reasons underlying my move were legitimate, if somewhat forced. my gear was stored in my father's garage, and i had been given notice that i would not be able to keep it there more than a moment past his death. my stepmother and i haven't spoken since. i legitimately couldn't find anything in ottawa, so finding the place in windsor was actually somewhat of a stroke of luck, given the urgency of the situation. i had hitched down there to meet friends, but in the end they couldn't sign a lease, so i went by myself.

the culmination of occurrences had me in the mindset of fresh beginnings. i finally had a stable income source on odsp, and a new apartment in a new city. so, i almost immediately set about completing all of the music that i had been putting aside for so long, in preparation for my own imminent demise, relative to the immense expanse that is time.

through whatever coincidence, i am permanently closing my second period during the week that i am being evicted from this same apartment, for the supposed reason of personal use. this apartment will consequently forever be associated with the completion of my second period.

yet, the bulk of the work done in this apartment - through immense difficulties with malfunctioning gear, questionable electrical outlets and a probable atmospheric magnetic field - has been in the realm of (re)mixing, orchestrating, programming and rearranging. it was just the nature of what needed to be done around an assortment of midi compositions and flat mixes from the early 00s. the really heavy lifting in completing my discography will come in finishing the third period, which i will not start until i move into a new apartment, around the corner from here.

with the exception of two vocal tracks (for inri020 and inri062), this disc is a comprehensive document of what was actually written as it was being recorded in the basement at 805 marion ave, in windsor, ontario, canada, in the form of a collection of overdub mixes that can be pasted on top of the existing demos in order to create the final products. it is mostly guitar and bass tracks, but also includes some orchestral and other sequencing and some electronic drum parts. everything else that was done in this basement was either created from existing sound or was constructed from existing midi instructions, however elaborately and however abstractly.

in hindsight, i can state with some force that this basement is not well suited for a recording studio. yet, these problems will be forever embedded within my own history, as well.

with those words, my tenure here ends. so long.

originally written, programmed and recorded in varying states of finality over 2001 and 2002, except the hidden track (which was programmed in 1997). the associated tracks were completed between february, 2014 and may, 2015; these mixes, however, were spun off as late as nov, 2017. released as lp017 on nov 27, 2017. expanded and finalized on jan 1, 2018. as always, please use headphones.

this release also includes a printable jewel case insert and will also eventually include a comprehensive package of journal entries from all phases of production (2001, 2002, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).

released april 24, 2003

j - electric guitars, digital & analog effects & treatments, bass, synthesizers, electric air reed organ, drum & other sampling, drum programming, drum manipulations, electronic drum kit, orchestral & other sequencing, sound design, soundscaping, loops, digital wave editing, voice, production, composition.

greg - drum performance sample source (2)

the rendered electronic orchestra includes at least one of each of the following: violin, viola, cello, contrabass, koto, french horn, trombone, trumpet, tuba, english horn, saxophone, flute, oboe, piccolo, clarinet, bassoon, agogo, tubular bells, glockenspiel, piano, melodic toms, timpani, orchestral hit, orchestral drum set and various full string sections. it also includes choir.

what i want done by the end of the night is everything from mid-2003 until early 2007 filed, numbered and ready to finish.

some remixing will be necessary, but the fact is that most of it is done.

and, when i get over this hump, the stuff from mid-2007 forwards should be a lot fresher. yes, 2007 was a long time ago. but, all i have from 2007 forwards is mostly just a collection of seeds.

period 3 is the real heavy lifting in catching up to where i was, even if where i was is now a long time ago, too.
ok.

so,  i may have to reperform some (really, most) of these tracks, and that's ok. so, there'll be some overlap with the impressionist jazz punk disc, but i want these all to be strictly acoustic, so i'll have to redo it. that's the conceptual break here, regardless - inri075 is the backpacking trip which i'm going to date to july 1, 2013 and inri076 will be a mini-single of material worked out when i got back.

so, let me file this as roughly and then get to working it all ot.

inri075 - guitar backpacking disc. redo some guitars. functionally, a hybrid demo disc of upcoming third period material, with some stripped down versions of period 2 pieces.

inri076 - all you need single. remove vocals? most of my vocals in this period are pretty cringey, these ones are particularly awful, but also kind of intriguingly pathetic. i'll probably include both options.

inri077 - bedroom cassette demo ep. right now, it looks like two tracks - but i want to finish the demo, as i left it. i mean, i left those channels open with intent. let's finish the demo before i do the final recording.

inri078 - this is the lost symphony. the other three symphonies for this project will have versions from 2003-2006 as lead-offs, remixes and alt-takes included and then final versions as hidden tracks (which will be album versions). this one cannot do that, but needs to be comprehensive in terms of collecting demo versions and outtakes. may include new remixes. in short, i'm recording this more or less from scratch, so it should get a full treatment like the jjjjjjjjjjjjj material.

inri079 - this is the art show demo, released as is.

inri080 - this is the ftaa disc.

and, i need to file a little bit more before i can carry forward - but intend to do that by the end of the night.

these numbers are now final.
