"that's the kind of feminism my mom believed in."

that's right: your mom was a feminist.

you're not.

so, i got my first print with the new ink done, and it actually seems to be a little more accurate than the official ink.

so, i'm not worried about quality.

but, i'm a little concerned about leakage, and will have to keep an eye on it.

right now, it seems fine. let's hope i can at least get through the month with it.

and, i'll have to keep track of the exact number of pages i print, as well. even if i only get the same 50 i got last time, i'm paying $20 this time instead of $100, so, it's down into a more reasonable price. and, if i get 100, it's closer to what i initially budgeted for. so, as long as it doesn't leak, this is probably a permanent solution.

the main black ink is supposedly out, too, after something like 30 pages. that's laughable - there must be ink left in the cartridge. so, i guess i'm putting all these cartridges aside for later, to figure out how to get the remaining ink out of them.

right now, i'm going to eat and get back to inri061. 60 is now ready to ship. i could potentially get this out on sunday.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
what i will say about bernie sanders running in 2020 is that i would hope that there is a younger, more viable candidate to challenge clinton in the primaries. i've been keeping an eye on franken for a few years as almost a singular example of somebody that could actually defeat clinton. if franken ends up pushed out or forced to resign, there really isn't anybody else with the ability to challenge clinton.

and, like so many people on the left, i think hillary clinton belongs at a criminal arraignment at the hague, not in the oval office. if i thought she was maybe a lesser evil 13 months ago, i don't at all think she is now. i would react with open hostility to a third clinton run.

i almost think franken should just dive into the thing head first, balls out, and take them right on. or, alternatively, go out with guns blazing. i know it's not really his style. but, the consequences of losing franken on the left are quite profound.

it's not that his positions are pristine. they're pretty good. i'm going to agree with almost everything he says, to the point that we don't get into a discussion about socialism. it's more that he has that populist streak to him, that ability to generate support. i'm actually not able to come up with a senator that has a better record than franken, but if you could find me one, they wouldn't have that raw political talent.

and, the democrats are once again demonstrating that they would rather lose any given election than be taken over by a candidate on the left.

if franken is out, the default is back to sanders. but, i'm not sure that i can support somebody his age running for office.

if we get around the corner here to the start of 2019 and have nobody in front of us in the democratic party besides a fading bernie sanders, i think there's a realistic chance that enough of a third party movement could develop to potentially land the democrats in third place.

the honest truth is that what's being reported about al franken doesn't upset me: it's a juvenile and harmless picture along with a disputed account of an event by a clearly unreliable accuser. this woman is an outspoken birther and a frequent guest on far right talk shows.

but, if this is the end of franken, expect it to be a pyrrhic victory for the democratic establishment, as he is probably their only realistic chance of winning in 2020. removing franken may be the decision that ends the democratic party as a political force in the united states of america.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
reddit isn't buying this, either.

this is a classic soviet-style take down. but, if we can maintain a questioning electorate, there's still some hope for democracy.

it's not like al franken is a political saviour or anything, but he's a reliable liberal and a credible option to defeat hillary. i think these events also confirm that he was thinking about running. despite the massive, co-ordinated push by the media & political establishment, i'd like to see some actual polling.

the little bit of grassroots evidence i've seen suggests people aren't buying into this - because it's just too obvious.

on top of that, the reality is that making ellison a senator would be handing the seat to the republicans.

this is the district that ellison represents:

it's minneapolis, basically - the urban core of the city.

this is how the state voted in the 2016 presidential election:

like the areas around minnesota, this is a state that is de-urbanizing in post-industrialization and being reclaimed by the agricultural midwest. like wisconsin, it is becoming less like illinois and more like iowa.

clinton very nearly lost this state.

and, running a black muslim nationalist with a history of right-wing extremism for statewide office is the way you lose it, maybe for good.

contrary to widespread reports, this state is highly vulnerable. it's not the place you play these games of identity politics in.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
the calls for resignation from clinton surrogates are just increasing. it's clear as day to me what's going on, here.

but, whatever happens with this, he cannot be replaced by keith ellison, who has a history of blatant anti-semitism and open homophobia.

you cannot replace a liberal jew with a conservative muslim (an openly anti-semitic and homophobic one) in a progressive state. and, the suggestion is horrifically egregious and absurdly offensive.

but, it reflects the fake left's priorities pretty clearly - and demonstrates the society they really want.

she shouldn't have done that. but, ok.

i'll be trying to print the back of inri060 soon.

actually, the photo clearly demonstrates that he didn't touch her at all.

i'm not a conservative person, and i'm not into decorum and proper behaviour. lewd, crass behaviour doesn't bother me. i swear, and i drink. and, yes - i'm lower class. so, i'm not going to add the caveat "it was in poor taste.."

...because, so what if it was in poor taste? since when is being an edgy comedian against the law? and, since when is morality a pre-requisite for public office? he's a senator, he's not a fucking priest.

rather, what the media reaction is demonstrating is that there is a co-ordinated movement to take franken out. the picture clearly demonstrates that he did not touch her, but they're spinning it as though he did. this is beyond the realm of accidental.

somebody named hillary wants him out.

yeah, my ink's in windsor. but, my mailwoman just always leaves the slip. that's fine, i can get it tomorrow.

getting it today wouldn't help much, as i'm going to need another day for 61. but, it looks like i'm expanding this to a third disc by adding some further orchestral reworkings, a percussion mix and maybe a drone mix, to start with. i got the string mix done this morning, and i'm happy with it, but it's bed time.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
i've pointed this out repeatedly: what's happening in the united states right now is not a rise of any left, but a return of the right. and, the language has just gotten so confused, that the young conservatives have ended up calling themselves 'progressives', and in some cases even 'socialists', despite articulating what is basically textbook conservatism, through and through.

maybe it's as simple as defining one's self in opposition to the dominant narrative. if you're told that ted cruz is a conservative, and you disagree with everything he says, then you must be on some kind of left, right? but, the fact is that ted cruz is actually a liberal, and if you disagree with everything he says then that actually either makes you a socialist.....or a conservative. and, the country is collectively getting this completely confused.

some of them seem to get it, and think they're marxists. but, what they're actually articulating is this right-wing concept of leninism that was basically just a russian strain of conservatism. so, you get all of these same authoritarian attitudes that have been historically associated with the right, sold to these kids as a left that never was a left. and, they can grasp on to it as oppositional, because it actually is.

i was skeptical when i read the polls suggesting that young people don't actually support sanders' policies, but i think i'm losing skepticism. because, what they're actually searching for - and can't find - is an actual conservative vision of class harmony through a division of labour, with a powerful church willing to take up the slack.

and, we're all in a lot of trouble if these kids can straighten out the language and figure this out properly.

echo boomers indeed, right?

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
i'm not being ironic.

a lot of the legal literature you see nowadays looks like it was written in the bloody victorian era, with the intent to minimize stress on the gentler sex. and, there's nothing feminist about any of it. it's just reactionary patriarchal conservatism hiding behind a veneer of altruistic chauvinism.

but, it's not like younger women are grasping on to it by accident. this reversal of feminism was a part of neo-liberalism. it's manufactured. it's taught. and, like so much of the language, we've had the terms inverted.

women should not get special treatment in the legal system - because they are strong enough and capable enough to be treated the same way that we treat men. and, don't let these victorian reactionaries and gentlemanly chauvinists tell you otherwise.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
feminism is not about coddling women, and anybody suggesting as much to you is a reactionary.

if feminism is radical egalitarianism - and it is - then it means putting a woman making an accusation on the stand and making them answer hard questions, and demanding that they support their accusations.

lowering standards and expectations is a kind of sexism. and, what's underlying this mindset is a kind of chauvinist chivalry.

unfortunately, a lot of women are willing to buy right into it. i'm not.

defend your argument sufficiently, or withdraw it.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
i actually take great care to not identify as any particular ethnicity. but i need to point out that it's not the case that i'm like 90% white or something.

i'm really quite literally mixed.

on my father's side, i'm native american, african-american (probably), french canadian, italian and jewish. so, my father would have been 50% mediterranean (italian/jewish), either 12.5% native and 12.5% black OR 25% cree (it's not clear....) and 25% french canadian.

despite having a french canadian surname, he was only a quarter "white".

my mom's father is white- welsh/anglo/scot. but, her mother is a quarter asian through a finnish ancestry. my grandmother has broadly norse-irish phenotypes, but my mother actually looks kind of turkic, and it would be from the finnish. i can look pretty finnish, myself. but, my mom would come in at 87.5% white.

that would make me about 56.25% white european, 25% mediterranean, 6.25% asian and 12.5% cree (or african/cree).

that's not enough to identify as anything specific. i've never been to a synagogue, and i don't know anything about indigenous culture, besides being an intuitive anarchist. i'm certainly not culturally black. but, i don't really have any interest in white culture, either. while my biggest european ancestry comes from my mother's father, i have essentially no relationship with that side of the family - i've had a far closer relationship with my maternal grandmother and my father's siblings. the two family members i've been closest to are my father and my maternal grandmother.

but, i find your narrative lacking, to begin with.

i'm actually more attached to the old left ideas that reject nationalism and ethnicity as tools of capitalist control, and argues instead for a secular society built on scientific principles and radical concepts of total egalitarianism.

in other words, i don't actually think my ethnicity is important. i don't really want one. and, i won't interpret other people through the lens of their self-identification, either: we're all just human beings.

but, sure: i'm all of the subtypes i listed, and none of it is any more token or trivial than the rest, whatever it means - and whatever it doesn't mean, at all.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
but, if the reaction to the franken accusations clarify anything, it is this: hillary clinton will be running in 2020.

and, this woman is your typical right-wing fox news reporter that might very well be taking orders on this.

sometimes, women run up against a system that is designed to marginalize their statements and the truth gets lost in a sea of broken formalities. i don't think we should abolish those formalities. reality can be a shitty deal. and, i'm sorry if you find that harsh, but i'm not running for office, and i'm not going to sugar coat it. it's a shitty deal when something bad happens to you and you can't prove it. but, you still have that burden, and you still have to find a way to convince people that the facts are on your side - as hard as it might be, sometimes. if you can't do that, you might lose, and it might be unjust. but, that's how our system operates - a system that is not perfect, but is the best we can come up with, as the other option is a system where people can accuse each other without evidence - the system that once existed in our distant, monarchist past.

and, sometimes they don't - sometimes they can generate the necessary evidence and win.

and, sometimes women get sent to take down politicians that are threatening the status quo, or standing in the way of the ambitions of other politicians that are more powerful or better connected.

my intuition would be that this situation seems like the latter. and, that doesn't mean that the former situations don't happen, and suggesting that it does mean that is a textbook error in logic.

the proper thing to do in this situation is to carry through with the investigation. and, that will mean cross-examining the testimony of somebody that may very well have an ulterior motive in an attempt to uncover it. and, if the evidence leads us to the demonstration of this ulterior motive in the lack of evidence upholding the proposed narrative, then we must accept it and exonerate the accused - for the evidence would necessitate it.

and, we must follow the evidence, wherever it may lead.

my advice to mr. franken would be to insist that the investigation does not take place in the senate, as his own party would be just as happy to get rid of him. he's too "liberal", and a threat to the establishment candidates in the upcoming cycle. in order to get a fair trial, he's going to want to do this in a court of law.

but, it's too late: he's called for his own investigation.

expect a show trial.

not only has al franken not been convicted of a crime, he has neither been charged with one nor even investigated in connection with one.

there's nothing wrong with being skeptical about sexual harassment charges against al franken at this particular point in time, nor does it suggest any particular inclination towards any kind of viewpoint.

right now, he's a serious threat to both parties.

and, this is how you take a guy like him down.

i'm not saying it didn't happen. i'm saying there's nothing wrong with being skeptical about it, until some evidence comes forward.

my ink might be here tomorrow, actually. have to keep an eye on that. if so, i could ship as early as saturday. if not, it's looking like it will probably be tuesday.

i wanted to ship more today, but i was only able to get inri058 out. that's the 4 cd set. it's shipped.

my drop by odsp was a little underwhelming, but only in the sense of it not being at all formal. i had to write a request by hand. i'll probably type something up before tuesday. i know this is all discretionary, but the situation is rather ridiculous; i can't afford to pay a mover, so if i can't move the furniture then i'll have to leave it here and then go to charity to get more furniture. and, i'd guess that the owners of this place will probably end up donating this furniture to charity. that would be kind of outrageously stupid, right? in the end, the city ends up paying for the moving costs, anyways. but, i know better than to expect pristine logic from the city.

i updated my accounting to reflect the price i actually paid for ink over the last two years, and it makes less of a difference than i thought, overall - my profit decreased from $42 to $34, and sean's went from $6 to $4.50. it's disappointing, but not catastrophic. most of the records i've sold don't have sean on them; i'm actually splitting things 50/50. but, if i get 50 pages out of $20 ink, it's closer to the profit margin i expected.

the actual truth is that i still haven't covered start-up costs.

i'm otherwise fed and am in or the weekend, so i'm going to shower and get to work on inri061. i'm hoping this is the last stretch before i get to the compilations next week.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
so, i'm about to get back to work for a few hours over night, but what did i do today?

i gave odsp a call when i woke up this afternoon and realized that i'm going to have to go in and talk to somebody tomorrow. my worker's not in this week. but, i need to get the forms running. and, i need to do that before i call about utilities and estimating moving costs. if i can just get the forms tomorrow and bring them in on tuesday, i'll be happy with that.

after the saga of serving the appeal last week, which was largely a consequence of not being able to find the right tube for my bicycle, i had to make sure i got the thing right, so i went down to the local bicycle store and grilled him on what i needed. with my rain jacket, i maybe seemed a little like the spanish inquisition - but i called ahead, so he had what i needed there when i got there. he talked me into buying a tire. i didn't need a lot of convincing, because i'm going to need a new tire eventually anyways, right? or, to put it another way: i can always use a spare tire.

we can all always use a spare tire.

they should put that on the side of the space shuttles. it's maybe the closest thing to a universal human truth that i've ever fucking seen. really.

anyways.

what was the problem with the tube i got at canadian tire last week - not once, but twice? see, i showed it to the guy and he said my tire must have some glass in it because it's ripped. that's why i bought a tire.

we can all always use a spare tire.

but, i think it actually ripped on the rim, because it didn't fit right. the first one just inflated into it. and the second one felt like i was riding a balloon animal for a few seconds before it popped.  it just didn't fit. that's all there is to it.

i actually got the technically correct correct tubes, this time. see, i'd been hacking out a 28-32 for i don't know how long. the tubes that burst were 23-28, and they were floppy. i should have actually been using 38s the whole time. imagine that. hrmmn.

after a brief stop at the grocery store (with the tire around my neck), i went home and fixed the tire - and fixed it is, yes. i took it out for a spin to make sure. i'm good to go.

so, at the end of the ordeal, i ended up spending a total of about $70 and i got a working bike pump, a spare tire and a spare tube out of it, in addition to getting the thing working. about $15 of that disappeared on bad tubes. but, i learned something from it.

i didn't sit down to eat until close to 9:00, and i had to do dishes and clean up in here after all of that. but i'm ready to finish the cover art for the second mp3 disc and get back to the rest of it after that.

i might be able to print in grey scale, but i have to wait until the ink gets here before i can print the rest of the covers. so, i'm going to go ahead and make the actual discs, and then see if i can print greyscale on them or not. either way, everything should be ready to go when the ink gets here.

and, i should be able to get around and do some things on my bicycle in the morning.

in america, when the president wants to boost his approval rating, he starts a war.

in canada, we find a country in the midst of a famine and send troops through the united nations to help.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.

Wednesday, November 15, 2017

but, let us not lose context.

why did canada end up as this peacekeeping country? the reason is that we didn't want to get involved in the wars. canada didn't go to vietnam; we accepted draft dodgers. some of them had famous kids. but, we were signatories to the defence agreements, and we wanted to be, and we knew we needed to be, and we understood that we had to contribute.

so, we took tactical positions.

these were never fully altruistic. when we sent our troops into this african country to fight a famine, or that asian country to build roads, it was always in line with the broader strategic interests of the western alliance. i don't know how many of us ever really fully understood this. but, we took pride in it, nonetheless.

and, thus, the question that trudeau ought to ask is this: what roads need to be built, and what populations need to be fed, to advance the interests of the west, without succumbing to it's most nihilistic tendencies?

and, the answer before us is that so much of the work is already done.

but, rather than seek out a solution for the sake of it, perhaps we should wait for the problems to more clearly present themselves.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
this whole narrative is some kind of surreal joke. and, it's designed to create something to run on in the next election.

i can't claim most people will anaylse this the way i do. maybe you'll get some nationalist responses around this. but, the ethnic component of the country has changed so dramatically, that i don't think it's a given.

in the 60s and 70s, canada was a mostly white and largely anglo country, so it could step into conflicts between western powers, and attempt to defuse cold war situations in ethnic lands from this kind of aloof british position of detached near non-alignment, and the population was able to grasp on to it as articulating a kind of alternative theory of empire. we were the conscience of the commonwealth. and, it worked because we could be obviously western and yet credibly neutral at the same time.

today, if we try to step in between just about any conflict, we're going to be seen as acting in the interest of this lobby or that. worse, so many new canadians don't have this attachment to articulating a friendlier kind of empire; they see the world in terms of racial conflict, colonizer and colonized. and, canada is just america lite.

what is happening in yemen is the kind of conflict that canada has historically stepped in to create a buffer to prevent. if we're in a new cold war, the yemenis are in the other camp. but, the reality is that we're selling the saudis guns, instead.

“There are people who wish I wouldn’t refer to China as our enemy. But that’s exactly what they are. They have destroyed entire industries by utilizing low-wage workers, cost us tens of thousands of jobs, spied on our businesses, stolen our technology, and have manipulated and devalued their currency, which makes importing our goods more expensive – and sometimes, impossible.”- donald trump, 2015

see what he wants, here?

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
i think i'm catching a hold of something, here.

it seems to be that people think that trump threatened to stop trading with china. i don't know if there were specific articles floating around, or if the clinton people may have helped in the confusion. but, i take it that there's this perception that trump was threatening a trade war and, ultimately, a reduction in trade. i guess this comes out of the intuitive view that the obvious way to close a trade deficit is to decrease imports. or, maybe it's just a naive and ignorant reaction to what is perceived as conflict: if trump is saying things about the trading relationship with china, he doesn't like china (maybe he's even racist!) and therefore doesn't want to trade with china. as though a criticism implies he wants a boycott. i guess that's the logic of a moralizing fundamentalist, which so much of the contemporary pseudo-left really is at heart.

but, decreasing imports doesn't create jobs, necessarily. it might. a surer way that you create jobs is by increasing exports. and, the way that you close a trade deficit without decreasing gdp (and who wants that....) is that you increase exports.

what is a trade deficit? now, let me start by saying that i'm not really concerned about trade deficits so much as i'm concerned about self-sufficiency, food sovereignty, climate change and workers' rights. trade deficits are kind of irrelevant to me.

but, what is it?

a trade deficit is just when you import more from a country than you export. that's all it means. so, when the talking heads on the news say that america has a trade deficit with china, all it means is that china imports more goods into the united states than it accepts from the united states in return.

now, if that's the case, then maybe chinese workers are making things that american workers might make, and perhaps used to make. but, it also means that american manufacturers are being shut out of the chinese market. so, if you're looking to reduce the trade deficit, you want to do these two things, in some capacity:

1) decrease the amount of goods entering the country
2) increase the amount of goods exiting the country.

but, the first thing is just meaningless without the second. if you cut imports without increasing production, you just end up without goods on the shelves. so, what you want to do is increase exports, and then hope that the local production competes well against the foreign production.

in a situation where this is impossible - and mexico is closer to this than china - you may have to cut off open trade altogether and instead retreat to very managed trade. and, that's what he's doing in mexico, too.

all this aside, i should point out the bernie actually threatened to cut trade relations with china. and, maybe trump inaccurately absorbed bernie's position on this, in the minds of many. but, trump just didn't do that. what he was concerned about was reducing the deficit. and, what that always clearly meant was increasing exports.

if you're upset about this, you need to stop listening to democrats and democratic party propaganda. how many times does the actual left have to tell you this? they're just as dishonest and misleading as the republicans are. and, you'll end up just as clueless.

the last time i remember this happening like this was with obama and war. a lot of people thought obama was an anti-war candidate. but, he never said anything of the sort. and, he was one of the most violent presidents, in the end.

the media is dangerous. you need to be vigilant. you need to question. you need to verify. and, the internet exists.

it's not my responsibility to educate you about transfinite arithmetic.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
so, i bought some cheap ink.

it's high yield for $20. the last package i bought was normal yield for $80. so, this could be less than 1/5th of the price.

i know that there are risks involved with this. i'm feeling like i need to take them.

it should be here before wednesday. and, the truth is that i won't be totally done by then, anyways.

so, i'll hold off on jacking up the price, for now. let's see what i get out of this.

it's 7:00. wow. lol.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
i may have less ink in there than i thought.

i think it's worse than that.

1) the size of the cartridges is steadily decreasing.
2) they base their metrics on very minimal coverage, and cover art tends to be very ink heavy. if they say you get 500 pages at 5% coverage and i'm printing at 50% coverage, each page i'm printing is 10 pages in the metrics. so, i'm only getting 50 pages, but it's fifty pages at ten times the metric - and there's your 500 pages.

i'm going to look for something more efficient. but, i think the reality is just that the price of ink is extremely high, and if you want a package like this it's going to cost me some money to make it.

again: it's not so so bad, really.

maybe i lowballed the cost.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
i still have a lot of extra cash.

maybe i can do some research into a more efficient printer, before i boost these prices too far.

$15 canadian for an lp is still pretty good. and most of my eps are lp length. $12 isn't too bad at all.

but, i have the prices low for a reason. and i don't really want to have the downloads priced differently than the physical media.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
no, i just need to boost the price.

eps are now $12.

lps are now $15.

that's what it costs.

sorry.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
my printer is out of colour ink, already.

that's about 40-50 pages printed, for an $80 cartridge - meaning it costs $2/page. and, if the disc has a front and a back, it's costing me $4-5 in ink per disc.

i had to do the experiment to figure it out. and, these are the results.

they're outrageous...

i can't sell eps for $7 if i'm spending $5 in ink. based on some basic research, i had ballparked $0.15/disc. so, i'm either going to have to find a cheaper source of ink, or i'm going to have to increase the price.

my estimated static costs were $1.75/disc, meaning that i was clearing $5.25 on an ep and $8.25 on an lp. if my static costs are now $6.45/disc, i'd need to charge $12 for an ep and $15 for an lp to balance out the costs.

i think that's unreasonable.

so, i'm going to have to search for a cheaper source of ink.

i know that the printer cartridge is not out. it has a chip in it. but, i have to find a way around it. maybe i can trick the machine into finishing off the cartridge, to start.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
in a really serious way, i'm just simply too civilized to enjoy sex.

jagmeet singh must cut  his beard.
i don't know why i have to explain this over and over, but apparently i do.

listen: there's not any way you can get around this. sex with a penis is a violent act. you can try and minimize it, but chances are you won't get much appreciation from it - nobody wants you to use your penis daintily. it doesn't matter if your victim by choice is male or female; the point of getting fucked is to absorb the aggression. and, so, if you're stuck with a penis, the only choices you have are to come to terms with the violence inherent within using it, or just choose not to use it. and, if you don't have that violence or aggression within you, if you're a person that lives their life with an attempt to minimize aggression and violence, and if you consequently find the idea of sex in a male role to be kind of revolting, then the thing is ultimately just fucking useless to you.

i don't know how to use the thing. i don't want to learn how to use the thing. i just want it to not be there.

but, i don't want to pretend that i'm a gay male, either, because i'm not.

so, i'm abstinent.

let's try a thought experiment because it might help you understand better: if i were to go off hormones and re-identify as male, would it affect my sex life? it wouldn't, because i'd still have that aversion to sex, because i understand that it is an unavoidable act of violence. and, this is empirical, observational. i was off hormones from 2003 to 2010 and i did not have sex with anybody at all after 2005. the one person i did have sex with before 2003 was ultimately just frustrated that i didn't have any real personal interest in it, and didn't know how to use the thing, and didn't want to learn how. there is an unavoidable chemical reality that would reassert itself if i were to stop the testosterone suppressors, but the only likely measurable outcome of this would be a return to disinterested, routine daily masturbation - i would approach it like i'm brushing my teeth.

i might gain an interest in sex in a hypothetical post-op situation, but finding somebody to have sex with me would be a more challenging proposition, and i'm not walking down that path for that reason. at least if i keep it and just suppress the testosterone, i'm not setting myself up for the obvious devastating outcome. and, i keep telling you that i'm a realist.

i ultimately don't care how you label me. if you want to insist that i'm not really female, but am instead an incredibly faggy male that chooses to chemically castrate himself and take hormones to look effeminate, then you can do that. i might say that if it quacks like a duck, it's a duck. you can insist otherwise if it makes you feel good - it doesn't have any effect on how i'm going to behave. and, if you want me to just throw the gender nonconformity in your face to piss you off, i can do that, too. i don't care. really.

but, you do need to listen to me about the sexual disinterest and get your head around that. because, there are situations where i'm going to react in self-defense to coercion. and, these should not be surprising - you should be able to predict them from simply listening to me.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
the only really feasible path that i have there and back is via bicycle, and it's going to be cold and raining. there's that ten mile strip with no bus service.

if it was in the summer, i'd probably do it. it's part of the reason i got the bike.

but, for tomorrow, i don't think this makes sense.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
i missed st. vincent tonight. everything else aside, it's a big venue, and i just don't enjoy big venue shows. i haven't heard the new record yet, but the lead tracks were underwhelming. and, i get the impression that she's intending to tone it down a little. i'd like to hear what she has to offer on the other side of mellowing out a little in the context of something more orchestral, but i'm not going to get too excited about an americana phase. i guess i'm waiting that out. i hope it doesn't take too long. but, i'll give the new record a chance when i get time to, too.

john mclaughlin is tomorrow night and it's tempting but i don't even know if he's actually playing it. the way he's talking about it is that he's hanging out on stage while somebody else is actually playing. and, he's 75 years old - i can't fault him for not being able to play this material, anymore. this is tough guitar work. but, i'm apprehensive about going all the way to ann arbor if he's not even playing. i'm going to try and find some footage. it's possible.

i've just never seen him play, and if this is my last chance then this is my last chance. but, it's a journey there and back, and i need to make sure it's worth it.

this symbol: ℵ

....is the hebrew letter "aleph", corresponding to the first letter of their alphabet. i don't know the phonetics of the letter.

rather, my use of the symbol is a set theory joke. i believe the use stems from cantor.

see, i count my collections using aleph-numbers, as though they're transfinite cardinal numbers. it's an abuse of notation, to say the least. but, the analogy is that it's an increase in abstraction. i needed another way to count, so i went with that.

i apologize if you thought the symbol looked like something else. it really never crossed my mind until right now. and, that is a function of your own ignorance.

to be clear: i don't in any way at all, not in any shape or in any implication, not in the slightest suggestion, deny being somebody that greatly enjoys inebriation and intoxication, and even profoundly suggests it as a life choice for others.

i'm trying to avoid calling myself a drunk, because it's just not true. i enjoy being drunk. you may very well bump into me when i'm drunk. but, i'm not an alcoholic. nor am i a pothead. and, i will go through weeks and sometimes months at a time without the use of intoxicants.

but, i do not reject them, or have any affinity or solidarity with those that would. i would rather advocate them as a great thing to enjoy. and, i'm a little put off by anybody, in 2017, that is suggesting that drugs are anything other than great fun*; chances are that i'm not going to get along with somebody like that.

something like this would have been the demo brought along on an acoustic tour that never happened. tracks 1-4 would have represented a live set over the summer of 2002, while tracks five and six are otherwise stranded acoustic demos (and may have been played as encores, where possible). the style could be broadly categorized as folk punk, but it also leans heavily towards the emo of the period.

europe really needs a moderate party to acknowledge that these people have legitimate concerns and that you don't have to reduce the spectrum to making a choice between wide open neo-liberalism and totally insular fascism - that there are places on the spectrum, in between.

i'm not going to pick a side in a fight between christians and muslims, i'm going to go have a beer and let them kill each other.

but, immigration to europe is not the same thing as immigration to north america. our indigenous peoples are largely dead. but, europe has a strong indigenous population that has a right to maintain it's own culture in the face of waves of unwanted immigration.

pluralism is a choice, and the principles of democracy mean that if the people don't want it then the state should reject it. and, at the end of the day, i'm in favour of self-determination.

it was in the mid thirteenth century that the polish took the brunt of the damage in stopping the mongol invasion of europe. they lost the first two fights, but they slowed them down enough. they won the third battle. this is an area that has known invasion and that has suffered from it. their reaction should not be dismissed out of hand.

what?

you don't think rapists would fit right in, if we punished them via conscription?

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
"pure islam" is an intriguing term, and is going to have two almost diametrically opposed meanings, depending on who is using it: it is either going to be a rallying cry for the most barbaric extremists you could imagine, or it's going to be an attempt for non-religious people with arab cultural backgrounds to essentially appropriate a jewish or christian identity as muslim.

the jewish scriptures are historically useless - which is to say that they aren't even necessarily wrong. this was such a long time ago, and the sources are so terrible, that you can't even prove them wrong, except through common sense. i don't need an argument to debunk the parting of the red sea. but, we'll never know whether or not there was a slave revolt, or whether or not people named moses or aaron had prominent roles in it. we can say that there appears to be archaeological continuity in the near east - that there isn't any sign of an invasion - but that's not really a proof that it didn't happen. good skeptics need to throw away the obvious nonsense and remain agnostic as to the general plot line. but, nonetheless, the jewish scriptures tell a story of a people that escaped from slavery with the help of divine intervention - and is then sent into slavery again, in repentance for their sins. a true judaism is consequently a kind of liberation theology. these are a people that identify as escaped slaves, and attach their ability to be free to upholding their pious behaviour: god gives them freedom in exchange for good behaviour.

the christian sources are only mildly better, but they hint at what is by far the most attractive society of the three. what we can piece together about these gnostic sects is that they were not much different than the mystery cults of the day - that they engaged in wild sexual practices under the influence of gratuitous drug and alcohol consumption deep in caves and other hidden places. a pure christianity is consequently a kind of pagan sex cult - but one that is built on egalitarian values and a crude understanding of socialism. then, power corrupts. remember: the office of the pope is actually the same thing as that of the high priest of rome. these conservative christian values only came in after the fact: christianity was initially pretty wild, and is on the very far left in it's most pure form.

but, islam doesn't have a history of this sort. mohammad was a warrior king, and these rules are designed to aid conquest. what islam is is a reflection of the christianity that existed in the period of heraclius. here's some history you don't know: jihad was invented by a roman emperor, who launched a holy war against the persians to recover the true cross and return it to jerusalem, then still a roman city. and, the crusades were more of a war against persia than a war against islam, the muslims merely taking the place of the iranians (and, the franks of the romans). pure islam is imperialism and colonization. it's ethnic nationalism. it's a set of rules to organize conquest with. and, it's a system of laws to decree in an empire, from the top down. this is inherently different.

so, the argument of "pure islam" comes from either direction. the truthful argument of pure islam attaches it to the ideology of isis, while the revisionist take tries to appropriate the christian heritage for itself, out of no legitimate history or actual tradition.

islam was more moderate in later stages. and, those seeking a moderate islam should be speaking of reformation, not of purity.

that should ship tomorrow....

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
i haven't printed yet. there's a stench in the other room. i'm hoping it's gone by the time i wake up.

instead, i finished all of the facebook stuff up to inri063 - and i don't expect to add anything to any of these, but we'll see how it unfolds.

this should be a quick run through over the next week or two. and, then i'm caught up.

i'll get back at it when i wake up.

why is facebook so insistent that i "may know" people in their 20s?

i'm almost 40.

i don't know anybody in their 20s...

for a site that prides itself on it's algorithms, you'd think they wouldn't make such an obvious error.

i don't know anybody. but, can you at least throw people my own age at me, guys? yeesh.

so, i'm finally done typing up the liner notes on this thing. i did a lot of second guessing, but i'm done with it.

i'm going to need to eat, first.

after that, i'll distribute it over facebook, do the actual liner notes and print it.

it's a civic holiday here tomorrow, so i'll have to wait until tuesday to ship. but it should be ready to go, a least.

tuesday should be a busy day, as i'll need to get groceries & get my bike fixed & call around about utilities & odsp, as well.

59 & 60 will be fast, but it looks like i'm going to have to do an aleph run after 60 so i probably won't get the next package done by tuesday. the next package will be 60 & 62 when it's ready to go, maybe by friday.

sure, it's an encylopedia entry.

but, sadly, that's maybe where so many people need to start on the topic. canadians seem strangely ignorant of our own history.

canada was an extremely important player in the cold war. it wasn't by repeating everything that america said, and following it's every command, but rather by proposing an alternative path towards dispute resolution. we played an integral part in the disarmament treaties. this carried forward into a number of other conflicts, including the hostage situation in iran.

when i hear "canada is back", that means, to me, that it is back to the historical role that it played as a mediator. but, it isn't back. it is, in truth, further from it's historic place than it's ever been.

the reason canada will not get a security council seat is that most of the world does not see it as having an independent foreign policy. it is not much different than giving poland a seat in 1960. this is a travesty, for a country that has historically been such an important foil to the dominant narrative of east v west, and that has one of the largest economies in the world.

the person to blame is stephen harper. i don't recognize my liberal party. but, of all of the ways that this government has carried on with the previous one's policies, it's in the realm of foreign policy that it's most disappointing.

i would like to see the ndp put a strong emphasis on defeating chrystia freeland in the next election.

i opposed the invasion of iraq, because saddam hussein was not a pillaging barbarian in any meaningful sense of the term. you could at worst accuse him of engaging in a type of hostile corporate takeover. it was more like he stormed the board of the corporation of kuwait.

and, kuwait is quiet nowadays, isn't it? you never hear anything about kuwait at all, any more.

but, isis are a group that is actually composed of pillaging barbarians, and they really do want to rape and enslave you and your family. whatever the reasons for their existence - and american imperialism is certainly at the core of it - they need to be destroyed. this is the reason we have a military: to attack targets like isis, before they come and get us.

we can't be looking at war as though it's a moral question, it just leads to appeasement. sometimes, you have to eat or be eaten. sometimes, you have to do horrible things and then justify it after the fact - and reasonable people will understand that. this is reality. and, reality is not built on idealism.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
i will reiterate that there are a couple of things a civilized country needs a military for. they are:

1) defence against pillaging barbarians that want to rape and enslave you and your family.
2) that would include defence against nazis, especially if your existing society is pluralistic.
3) that would also include defence against religious fundamentalists, especially if your existing society is secular.

i'm sorry if you're too stupid to see the reality in front of you.

there are a few ideas in my discography that i've explored from multiple angles, but nothing else at all like this track, which has been through multiple complete rethinks involving multiple people over the course of sixteen years. as the revisions are so diverse, i think that a comprehensive collection of interpretations is a proper entry within my discography.

in the end, this emerges as my seventh symphony.

the collection is to be arranged chronologically in four discs consisting of two 2xcd sets, with the first two discs consisting of mixes that were meant for inclusion in band projects and the third and fourth consisting of mixes that were created after the track was moved into my own various one-person projects. i've placed the third disc at the front of the sequence to stress the july, 2002 release date.

further discussions of the various incarnations of the tracks appear on the track pages, or are linked out from the track pages. please click through.

written over 2001 and rethought repeatedly over 2002, again in 2007, a third time in 2009 and one last time in late 2014. final mixes were completed over the last week of november and the first week of december, 2014. the concept was rethought on nov 3, 2017, which led to the inclusion of five more mixes and an expansion from two cds to four cds. as always, please use headphones.

the album version of the track (track 9), reconstructed in 2014, appears on my seventh record:
jasonparent.bandcamp.com/album/ftaa

the 2002 vocal mix appears on the rabit is wolf demo:
jasonparent.bandcamp.com/album/rabit-is-wolf

this release also includes a printable jewel case insert and will also eventually include a comprehensive package of journal entries from all phases of production (2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2014, 2017).

regarding the vlogs...

yes, i'm still vlogging. the major purpose was to document the music, remember. the rest of it is just incidental.

if we assume that i get my keys on nov 29th, and everything works out properly, i should be done finalizing the discography up until about 2004, by then. i'm going to push through until i get to a point where i need to actually do some more recording. that's about that point - maybe a little later, maybe more like mid 2005. things start to get less linear around 2003 until about 2011. this is periods 3 (trivial group) & 4 (proverbs).

the next thing to do is to catch up on the alter-reality, which is getting a little bit urgent.

in order to get back to editing the hundreds of gigabytes of files i have to edit, i have to fix my main laptop, which fried in an electrical storm at the end of august. that is going to be my editing machine. and, i won't get back to doing that until i've caught up on the discography to a proper point.

i'm also going to be moving, now, so it makes sense to tie the apartment upgrades i was doing to setting up the new apartment. and, this won't be the first thing i do, either. i need bookshelves first, probably.

it probably won't be by january 1st. but it will happen, eventually. and, i might even decide to stagger it a year, in the end. it might be kind of intriguing: alter-reality by 20, vlogs by 1.

listen, i don't know how many times i have to say it, but the reason i don't make any sense to you is that i'm so much older than you.

it's called a generation gap. and, it's mutual. and, it's not my fault that you see me as your age, when i keep telling you that i'm not of your age group - that i'm very firmly in the centre of gen x.

but, i mean, they told me this would happen. when i was your age, i mean. they said we'd get squeezed out - that nobody would acknowledge we even exist. that we'd get passed over by people older than us that don't understand us, and get ignored by people younger than us that don't understand us. we were warned. we knew this was coming.

but, stop pretending there's something else underlying it. it's a generation gap. that's all.

so, the next thing i have to ship is a four cd set and you can imagine that it's not obvious how to do this.

i actually looked at quad cases, but they don't make sense from a booklet perspective. i don't like the slim doubles, because you end up with a flimsy back in the cover art. and, while the sturdier doubles might be a nice way to professionally manufacture these, it would be kind of lame to drop a printer-paper booklet in.

i've decided i'm going to ship these in single cases for now. if i ever get them printed professionally, i'll revisit that. this particular release would make sense as two doubles.

so, i've updated the cover art on my previous two doubles, as well, and will need to make sure i'm creating the right kind of packaging in the future.

i was looking for anything substantive that he had to say about the tpp...

...but the reality is that the only way he knows how to win an election is via the sikh community. but, this is another litmus test: can he win an actual election in an open riding by winning the support of a broader-based coalition? because he's not an ethnic candidate anymore, he's representing a national party. he'd better be able to do it.

clearly, he doesn't think he can.

and, he might be right.

i have an idea that would help...

ok.

so, there was supposed to be a signing, but it didn't happen.

it seems like the media leaked - maybe from some party insiders - a little ahead of the gun. maybe part overly eager, and part manufacturing reality. but, in the end, it didn't work.

they can agree in principle all they want, what's important is what gets signed.

so, i guess that's a good thing, for now.

but, this government needs to avoid this like the plague. and, let the anzac countries have their own backlash to massive outsourcing to malaysian child labour - maybe they'll come back to us, one-on-one.

a free trade agreement with japan - even if it ends up as auto parts for beef - would be fine with me. it would probably just bring the japanese manufacturers more thoroughly over the border, from detroit. they're not going to make parts in japan and ship them here; what we want to stop them from doing is making parts in malaysia and shipping them here.

https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2017/11/11/canadas-decision-to-decline-tpp-agreement-shouldnt-have-been-a-surprise-trudeau.html
is there or is there not a tpp agreement?

there was an agreement in principle, but not an actual agreement? is that right?

i understand that the tory media is supporting this, and that it likes to manufacture reality, but can we get a straight answer?

is it possible that burial is actually an act of defiance?

"that fucking lion's been eyeing my wife for months, and she might have died of plague, *cough*, but there's no damned way i'm letting that lion get to her, now. not after all the trouble i went through in evolving bipedalism. not after i've started eating protein. no fucking way. so, i'll tell you: if i can't have her, no other species can, either. *cough*."

because, it's kind of an anti-social act, in a broader food web kind of way, right? every other species gets eaten by scavengers. and, all carnivores and omnivores are opportunistic scavengers. we give the rest of the animals a really dramatic "fuck you" by leaving ours underground, where only the worms can get to them.

maybe our ancestors actually thought that through. maybe it's intentional - maybe we're really just assholes.

nov 9-10, 2017 vlog, where i get a new apartment and follow through on serving the old landlord.

actually, i don't think that the bible gives the jews any special right to any holy lands in the first place.

so, i don't need to pull out the khazar theory to deny any concept of a jewish right of return; the religious basis is bullshit to begin with.

it's worse than bullshit. it's insane.

think about what you're saying: you're claiming that it's ok to displace a population of people based on a promise handed down by god to somebody that walked across a desert at 120 years old in the iron age, only to collapse before he saw a "promised land".

there is no such goddamned thing as a motherfucking "promised land". alright? got it? yeesh.

how can serious people make serious policy based on such absurd idiocy? how did we let powerful institutions get taken over by such stupidity? and how did we allow this to actually happen?

i will always defer to the science, and the science says it is dubious, but i must admit that i do find the khazarian theory of ashkenazi origins as a plausible explanation of the origin of white jews. but, it has no effect on how i view israel because i don't think that brown jews have a right to a "promised land", either - because i think the idea of a "promised land" is completely fucking insane.

are there holes in the arguments detracting from the theory? well, i'm not going to do a systemic review. but if what you're doing is taking dna from some existing georgians and comparing it with dna from white jews and pointing out that they don't match, you're not really testing what you think you're testing. you could just as well deduce that the georgians aren't khazars, right? and, does anybody actually think that they are?

i've seen studies that suggest some genetic affinity between white jews and iranians, and it's maybe a little closer to the point.

but, i will defer. i must.

remembering the mass murder and highly discriminate slaughter that our government inflicted on successive generations of conscripted soldiers is not the same thing as mindlessly waving a flag and chanting jingoistic slogans, to cheer on this elite over that one, on the basis of language or religion or whatever other anachronism you want to pull out of the unmarked shallow grave.

this is a meaningful holiday, if you understand it properly.

mr. trudeau,

you have an election in less than two years. re-election campaigns are invariably a referendum on a prime minister's record. and, what is your record to this date?

1) carry on with the policies of the existing government.
2) legalize marijuana.
3)?
4) profit.

while i recognize that there is a subset of voters that voted for the legalization of marijuana, there is not any reason to think they will vote for you as a thank you gesture.

there were lots of good ideas in your platform. you're going to have to actually carry through with a couple of them if you want people to vote for you again.

regards,
deathtokoalas

ps: jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
The chapter relating to intellectual property has been "suspended," which means, in plain terms, that it will no longer be part of a renegotiated TPP, a victory for Canada as many companies — as well as Blackberry's former CEO, Jim Balsillie — were worried about those provisions. The intellectual property chapter, which essentially applied U.S. patent laws to other member countries, was originally demanded by the former Obama administration.

that was, indeed, one of the major problems, and it's good to see it gone. but, it's just one.

i would have greatly preferred bilateral deals that take into account the specifics of each situation. these one size fits all solutions just don't fit anybody.

well, hopefully it becomes an election issue. but, can we count on the ndp to oppose it?

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
Champagne said if a country does not adhere to these requirements as called for in the agreement, any country could haul another offending partner in front of a trade tribunal, and they would be subject to the dispute resolution process.

that's never going to happen.

jagmeet singh must cut his beard.
there are parts of ceta i don't like, but i'm in favour of trading with europe.

i'm in favour of open trading with australia and new zealand and japan, and with slightly more restricted trading with chile and peru. and, we need some kind of agreement with china, who i know is not in the tpp.

but, a tpp that includes countries like vietnam, brunei, malaysia and mexico is just going to recreate all of the problems that we created with nafta, and for this reason canada should avoid signing on to it.

the chretien liberals had an impossible choice with nafta: they were screwed either way. and i do think they made the right choice, as difficult as it was.

but, trudeau is being given a golden opportunity to correct the errors of the 80s, and instead he's intent on repeating them. he doesn't have the situational problems that chretien had; he doesn't have the pressure from the americans to sign on.

this isn't a difficult choice, it's a foolhardy decision that will lead to a further hollowing out of the canadian economy in favour of a continued redistribution of wealth to the investor class. and, signing this will do the kind of long term damage to the liberal party of canada that clinton's championing of nafta has done to the democratic party.

i don't tend to have a lot of empathy for soldiers. sorry.

they sold their soul to the devil, and they got burned.

(deleted response)

it's not hard to figure out that killing people is evil.

so, i don't really buy that defence.

that's basically "just following orders".

(deleted response)

deathtokoalas
that is not what these trained killers do at all - what they do is protect and uphold american corporate interests at the expense of anything and everything else. the only thing they are servants of is capital.

and, there are certain sorts of criminals that should actually probably be sent to combat instead of to jail.

send the rapists to iraq to fight isis....

(deleted response)

deathtokoalas
suggesting that criminals aren't a good fit for the military is a category error, a contradiction in terms, as one becomes a criminal as soon as they join the military.

we should neither have a standing army nor should we have conscription; we should rely on the ability to spontaneously come together in mass movements of popular solidarity, when we need to.

once in a while, the united states military will do something good - like help the soviets defeat the nazis, or not get too much in the way of the russians defeating isis. isis is the kind of thing that we ought to come together to fight. but, that doesn't change anything, or make the army's existence any less egregious.

(deleted response)

deathtokoalas
what i actually said is that certain kinds of criminals should be forced (conscripted) to serve a military term as part of their sentence. "allowed" implies some kind of privilege; the idea is that this is a punishment.

rich stoner
We are trained to handle situations and be efficient in what we do. We don't go around just killing. We detain if we can but like any criminal trying to get away it's either fight or flight and I'm not going to stand there and get shot. Also the reasons so many Innocents died kids included Muslims/foreign fighters love making vehicles into bombs, setting out landmines and other explosives, mortar rounds, shooting wildly into crowds knowing we won't fire back with bystanders around and most importantly strapping bombs to their own kids. I didn't sell my soul to the devil. So when you are sick, dying, alone and scared I will have no empathy for you. Much love

deathtokoalas
your personal anecdotes deeply belie the evidence released by sources like wikileaks, which present modern warfare rather as something not much different than playing a video game, and with not much more concern for lost life than the average gamer would demonstrate.

rich stoner
hahahaha that's too funny

deathtokoalas
well, it's the truth. you've got what amounts to naive kids playing rpgs, in the military nowadays. the work on the ground is done by local forces, and their lives aren't particularly important, either.

rich stoner
I'm 32 and I'm laughing because you act like you've been there. I know you get all your facts from reading internet garbage and watching the news. So you obviously know they didn't have police over there. We trained and setup an entire police force so they could take care of their own city. We gave people food and water, played soccer with kids. Ate meals with families, pulled tower guard. It's not just guns blazing and killing everything. Its boring about half the time, just gathering Intel so we could figure out where the insurgents were hiding at. I think you watch too many movies little girl.

deathtokoalas
i think perhaps i don't watch enough of them, and if i did i might be more inclined to accept the sanitized, hollywood presentation you're presenting. but, i do know better. sorry.

ps - there were police in iraq before you arrested, tortured and/or executed them all.
so, i'm in for the weekend. i need to recuperate. my legs are still bad. and it's cold out.

the landlord is illegally coming by on a saturday. she claims she's bringing "the new tenant". well, we'll have to film this. if it's not her mom, i could get this process rolling early.

it's actually the end of a long day for me, right now. i think i'm going to eat and shower and go to sleep. but, that means i'll get tomorrow and sunday for music, and could even ship on monday.

i'll need to call both disability and the electric company on monday. i'll need to put up an ad on kijiji for the fridge, too - but pick-up after the 29th, if i get the keys. that's another $100, hopefully. well, it's what i paid for it. and it works. i checked briefly and it seems right for a functional, if old, fridge.

arranging the move will take priority. but, i expect to get caught up by the 29th, at the very latest.

“It was an Iranian missile, launched by Hizballah from territory occupied by the Houthis in Yemen"

this isn't even worth debunking.

"it was a russian missile, launched by bolivarians from territory occupied by the zapatistas in mexico."

but, this is all just an excuse.

if saudi arabia wanted to outlaw orange juice, it would claim there was an iranian plot, carried out by agents of assad, to poison it with anthrax. and, if it wanted to enforce a mandatory style of under garments, it would claim there were iranian spies peering at saudi citizens through an elaborate system of telescopes and satellites, designed by heretic shia scientists.

they're a permanent scapegoat. a bad guy. and, ultimately, a distraction.

what the saudis really want is to expand their control over the region. and, while it is true that iran is both in the way of this and in fact actually a useful foil to spur on these ambitions, they would be doing all of the same things whether iran was there or not.
