if canada had elected stephane dion, and taken serious steps to build an ev industry 20 years ago, it might be in a better position to compete in the ev market, today.

we didn't do that.

we elected stephen harper, who wanted canada to be a petrostate. trudeau was really harper in disguise, and carney just ripped the mask off to expose harper redux.

this boat has sailed. we're way too late.

if our idea is to stay linked to nafta auto integration, and the americans are abandoning evs, we need to go with them. that's a shitty deal - it's a bad idea. worse, they're trying to cut us out, anyways. we can obfuscate and slow the process down, but maybe we should get the hint and pull out.

we're probably better off abandoning the auto pact and inviting the chinese to help us assemble evs in canada for the canadian market, in exchange for lifting the tariffs on our produce. if the americans want to keep buying our oil to fuel their dirty cars, there's not much else we can do but get up and move on and hope they call us to reconcile some time later in the future.

if the americans want out of the auto pact, they'll get out. we're not helping ourselves hanging on to a broken marriage, or putting up obstacles to finish the divorce. we need to walk away with our heads up and move on. if they want to call us, they have our number.
