it's being presented as a peace proposal, but, as we know, WAR IS PEACE.
the purpose of the war was to prevent european armies from moving in to ukraine, which was imminent in 2014. that is the cause of the war - nato expansion to ukraine. the media is presenting the cause as a solution.
the way to read this is that nato is in truth looking to escalate the war, and that's how the russians will interpret it. trump is presenting himself as facilitating peace, but he's actually facilitating arms sales to european buyers, and using the conflict as a way to increase sales. this is about selling tanks and planes to europe.
you can and should expect the russians to completely reject the "peace talks", which are in truth a major escalation by nato. the media will blame it on putin not wanting peace, when the opposite is the truth.
it's not clear what agreements were made with the russians regarding the issue, or if the united states may be taking a position of arming both sides, in an attempt to weaken the europeans. that will come out in time.
winners: american arms industry.
losers: europe, and especially ukraine.
