canadian accents tend to correlate south rather than across the country. vancouverites are hard to distinguish from other pacific northwesterners, the canadian prairie accent is similar to the american one, northern ontarians sound like they could be from minnesota or northern michigan, southern ontarians sound like new yorkers, quebec is inapplicable (french) and easterners sound like they could be from maine....

we also align culturally. so, if you're standing in alberta and mostly integrate with rural american culture, you won't hear it - just as i don't hear mine in relation to a new yorker.
