what do i think happened today in alaska?

listen to the longer remarks by putin. he talked about times when the russians and americans were allied, drawing particular attention to lend-lease during world war two. putin was always an enthusiastic participant in world war two memorials. he always understood and valued america's role in helping russia defeat nazism, and he was always vocal about it.

i think that they didn't talk much about ukraine at all. i think that the meeting was more about increased trade between russia and america, as carried out over the bering strait. i suspect they may have discussed technology transfers and weapons sales.

trump doesn't speak for ukraine and doesn't want to speak for ukraine. he's not at war with russia and doesn't want to be at war with russia. he wants to get better trade deals for the united states, including a better trade deal with russia.

the belligerent approach by the europeans is strongly reminiscent of nazi expansionism and it dispenses with the ideological divisions of the cold war as illusory. what the europeans really wanted during the cold war was lebensraum

the russians will need to work out their differences with the europeans unilaterally.
