it's somewhat of a tiring - and tired - formula and they stick precisely to the script of it. i suppose that if all you want is for somebody to do the math in front of you, it's going to do the job: right guitar tone, right drum patterns, right intervals, right vocal melodies. everything done right should make people happy. right?
they shouldn't listen to me. i'm not their fan base. but, what i'd need out of this is for them to mix it up a little bit, to breathe a bit of life into it - to take a chance in opening it up. it doesn't have to be dramatic; it doesn't necessarily have to be a breakdown into a polka or something. nor am i dissenting on the repetition, exactly. it's just that a little variation in songwriting tactics is something that is really necessary to avoid a crippling onset of monotony.
as it is, i've heard this before - and i've heard it done better, before.
