to the extent that there may be something valid in some of these critiques, the point is irrelevant because the solution is unworkable - we can't be letting parents assert ownership over their teens. teens own their own bodies, and that's not up for debate. so, it's a dead-end.
be proactive. talk to your kids about it. in the end, they'll make a choice without you, whether you like it or not. all you can do is inform them with your own perspectives, and let them make their own choices.
