listen, i'm a socialist. i've always thought liberals were losers. but, this cultural flip puts us in the hardest position of all.

we used to very quietly flip elections here in canada by voting for the cultural hegemon on the capitalist left.

that's not going to work anymore if the proportions have flipped. it doesn't help us to support the bourgeois left if they're going to lose anyways, so why bother? that, however, places us in perpetual opposition, like in the united states. it's an unsettling proposition to imagine canada swinging hard to the right for the next 50 years because the kids hate liberals for taking away their fun, but we're on the brink of it.
