it's just hard for me to tell if i'm smelling smoke from upstairs or dirt from the heaters. all i can really say with certainty is that it's overwhelmingly dry - and that itself makes it hard to breathe, makes my throat sore, generates asthma attacks, etc. 

so, i'd might as well be breathing in secondhand smoke, even if i'm only breathing in dry air.
