if you were to bump into your average 1890s populist farmer, they weren't concerned with the dickensian plight of child labourers or gender equality or any of those things.

what they were concerned about was stopping the jews from controlling the banks, and bringing in christian systems of lending. that was what the movement was actually about at it's core. and, socialists and the real left did not support it, for obvious reasons.
