next time...

http://www.windsorfire.com/open-air-burning/
the refugees have been burning shit all night, and it's...

i don't care what your mythology says. as far as i'm concerned, this is just unnecessary pollution, and it should be regulated by city anti-pollution, and anti-smoking, by-laws.

but, why should i have to call somebody to get an enforcement? why is it not obvious that if you're going to sit outside and create carcinogenic smoke all day then you should leave a residential area in order to do so? how does this evade a person's basic intuition?

or is the truth that they just don't give a fuck?

"muh religion!"

i'm going to forget about it for the night, but they can't keep doing this, either. the next time, i'll have to start off by going over and having a talk and asking them to either burn their shit inside or go to a public park.

but, the first thing i want to do is understand what they're actually doing, and why.

my initial guess was that they were celebrating the full moon. now, the full moon was on friday, but i know that their calendar is pre-modern, so it's going to generally be off by a day or two. so, i reasoned that they probably thought the full moon was tonight. but, i can't find any support for the idea that they'd burn incense on the full moon.

it's also nearing the end of ramadan, and while i can't find a religious significance for burning shit at the end of ramadan, it does appear to be a cultural thing, which just makes it that much less acceptable. if that's it, it's not even "muh religion". it's just "i'm breaking by-laws and stinking up the neighbourhood for no good reason.".

but, i found this while googling, and it made me chuckle. esophagus, trachea - same thing, right?

There is nothing wrong with a fasting person smelling good smells, from food, perfume etc, but he should not inhale bukhoor (incense) or the steam coming out of the cooking pot because these have particles which may reach his stomach.
again: bill casey sat as a conservative for a really long time. he had a fight with the previous government. the liberals saw an opportunity to take the seat, as he was more popular in the riding than the prime minister. but, it's just another example of how the conservatives have taken over the most important positions in the liberal party.

the future of marijuana legalization in canada has been put in the hands of a 72 year-old conservative. nobody should be surprised if it gets bogged down in committee, as he is claiming.

i like the insight into the economic backwardsness that seems so strongly correlated with the baby boomer generation.
