i've been having this discussion for years.

"why are you so gung-ho about the conservatives again?"
"because they're lowering taxes."
"why is it so important to you that they lower corporate taxes?"
"because my property taxes are too high."

*pause*

"so you're voting for your local federal conservative mp because you think your property taxes are too high?"
"yup. they said they want to lower taxes, and i'm all for that."
"but, they didn't ever say they want to lower your taxes. i mean, i believe in progressive taxation..."
"...stop trying to brainwash me with your liberal propaganda. they're going to lower taxes, which will get the economy going."
"but it's not..."
"...i know the truth, i don't need to listen to your lies."
"well, alright, then. later."

the end result is that if they claimed that tax cuts affect the weather, and then drew a connection between their policy and an increase in sunny days (even if there's actually been a decrease in sunny days), their voting base would rally around it, and there's your new cpc talking point.

reality means absolutely nothing to these people.
