we don't have the name of a single babylonian mathematician, or a single egyptian architect or a single assyrian astronomer. we have the names of their kings, but not of their scholars.
everything we might have salvaged from these cultures is hidden in the lineage of the greeks, as they emerged from the dark age that their ancestors may have caused.
and, that is what aesop is - a collection of very, very ancient tales that were saved from the brink of destruction; thank the greeks for this, do not criticize them for it.
