historical questions aside, my interest lies more in determining a true carrying capacity surrounding a hypothetical shift to permaculture.

listen, there's only so much oil. we're going to have to reform our farming practices significantly. permaculture is one proposal.

the thing is that there are serious questions surrounding the ability of permaculture to actually produce. there's a sort of nightmare scenario of depopulation, warfare...

i like the idea of moving to hydroponic like arrangements where produce is grown indoors, perhaps with the aid of gmos that are not patented by mosanto. i realize that's sort of a heady pipe dream that relies on a high level of co-operation. permaculture is maybe more attainable.

but how many people can it actually feed?
