i noticed some strange logs, so i pulled the wireless card out of this thing after i ate.
without looking at it that much more carefully, i can't know for sure. it could have been loading the driver into memory without using it, and i do actually have a very low-bandwidth wireless keyboard running via usb, but the device otherwise has no actual use; it's disabled in device manager, disabled on the front panel and was disabled in the bios until i had to reset it.
more generally, the laptop needs an external monitor, so it's not very mobile.
and i can put it back in later if i really want to...
with the exception of the chromebook, and the infected chinese phone that i never use, that would actually be the last wireless card i have down here. i took the wireless out of the other laptop quite some time ago, and the 90s laptop didn't ship with one. i have three motherboards down here, none of which have wireless chips in them, which was a conscious choice. i simply wouldn't buy a motherboard with a wireless chip in it.
so, i've got a start on the reconstruction, and i'm feeling less overwhelmed.
i'm back to listening to schubert for the night.
and, i'm hoping i can get things in order by sunrise.
