so, they want to legislate the powers granted under the declaration of a state of emergency...

obviously, i'm a little apprehensive about that.

listen - if the options are that you stay in a state of emergency for the next year, or you pass a law that grants you emergency powers for the next year with specific oversight committees, then the second option is even arguably allowing for more oversight, even if it runs the dangers of normalizing these powers. but, staying in a state of emergency indefinitely is going to do that, anyways. it seems largely trivial, in the short run.

if they decide to try to normalize this through legislation any further, it just signals that they weren't going to ease up on the state of emergency, and we would have had to fight that, anyways.

for now, it's concerning, if trivial.

but, let's be ready to keep them at their word when these terms expire.
