there's a certain framing that comes out of this kind of thing that goes something like this:

"we used to be a racist society built on colonialism and genocide, but we got better. now, we have identity politics and neo-liberalism, instead - and all of that stuff is done with. so, come work for our logging company."

i'm a robot. i get it. but, my main concern is not what happened 200 years ago, it's what's happening right now. and, even if you're obliged to feel a little bit more than i am, don't lose that basic point - the present is more important than the past.
