there's not really anything i can do until i get some kind of lead.

i do still think that it's the cops, or at least i think that the cops are the primary suspect. then, what happens if i call? i'm just giving them information.

if it's not the cops, i don't have any useful information to give them - i can't really prove that my hard drive isn't failing, although i'm nerdy enough to know it isn't.

the chkdsk gave me back my file directory at least, let's see what happens if i try to boot.
