chapter 2 - laundry / walk-in closet
oct 29th
this is what i'm starting with in here.
this is walking into the bathroom:
this is opening the door and looking into the laundry (the device on the floor is a window air conditioner),
this is the view directly behind you if you're looking at the clothes rack, as though you had taken a right turn instead of a left one. it's a washer and dryer, with an ironing table underneath the dryer and a table in th back, with a fair amount of space behind there.
here are some pictures of the place emptied out and walking into it:
in the above picture the boxes are for the towel rack (bought in previous basement) and metal bathroom shelf. the white shelf is the detergent shelf; the boxes for the closet and kitchen scale are on it.
you can see the dryer here walking into the bathroom. there is a broken filing cabinet in here that i don't have a clear use for at present. i will be moving that desk into the bedroom. the coffee table in this picture was actually the previous kitchen table in my last space, but it is a very low table, and i'm not sure what to do with it. it might end up in the in-unit garage.
this picture underestimates the size of this space, but you can see that the piping is open and that it is drafty in here for that reason. i'm going to need to just cram something in here to fill the space. it could be some of the old clothes lefts here, even.
as mentioned, the place is filthy and needs to be thoroughly cleaned; the space is currently mostly empty and cleared out because i want to clean or replace the rugs. i think i should be able to just vacuum it but i don't know for sure. i'm hoping i can keep that rug. i am going to want to:
(1) clean the floors
(2) put some insulation in the back
(3) put the ironing table with the dryer on it beside the washing machine, so they're both against the wall
(4) move a large craft table that i found on the curb into the back wall and put a sewing machine i bought for $50 a few years ago and other art supplies on it. i don't make my own shirts, but maybe i might want to sell some.
(5) put a small shelf against the side wall (the wall directly in front of you walking in) for laundry detergent, bleach, dryer sheets. this shelf was left here by the previous tenant.
(6) put a closet beside that. i bought this recently for $40.
(6) put a closet beside that. i bought this recently for $40.
(7) beside that, put a five drawer dresser that was left by the previous tenant.
total cost right now is $51ish.
between the clothes rack, the dresser and the closet, all or most of my clothes should go in there, which is off the bathroom. the idea is that you get dressed when you get out of the shower, not when you get out of bed, so this makes more sense than trying to find some solution to cramming clothes into a small bedroom without a closet. that also means i have more shelving spaces for books in the bedroom.
i don't currently intend to make any further purchases for this space, but it's filthy and disgusting and needs a thorough cleaning. once i can clean in this space, i'll be able to move a few things out of the core of the apartment, which will open up some space in it to move some things around in it.
i hope to get started on cleaning in the next 24-48 hours and move some items in there by the end of the weekend.
