if that means more trees and less pollution in canada, i'm not going to shed a tear for the loss of profits to some capitalist car company or something. we can retrain these people to do more environmentally responsible jobs.
i would like to see large export taxes on the sectors that trump exempted, which are the items the us needs and will pay for. that would include oil, uranium, potash, electricity, aluminum, etc.
what i do not want to see is a tax hike on food staples like orange juice or coffee. i'd like to see more american food items, not less, because they have higher fortification levels, and health canada has become retarded in it's obsession about "over-fortification", which is not science but just stupid hippie bullshit.
i want to suggest to mr carney that he have a concept of class consciousness when drawing up these tariffs. there is some possibility that what we're dealing with is actually collusion and that what's happening is actually a coordinated attack on the north american working class on a level that we haven't seen since the 80s. that might be the right way for the left to frame this. if he does this the way that mr trump wants him to, we're going to have 50-100% inflation on basic grocery items, and that's going to be a stab to the throat of working people on both sides of the border. it's an opportunity to go out and march on the streets and revolt.
but if mr carney does this the smart way - something that mr trudeau couldn't figure out - the tariffs might get absorbed entirely by bad environmental actors and be directed at the wealthy, who can pay for it.
go ahead and tax luxury automobiles. whatever. who cares?
but don't fucking tax food. you fuckers.
