people all over the spectrum don't seem to understand this well, and the reason is that english culture is dying a slow death on this continent and few people read classic speech rights texts or understand much about it nowadays, but the law is not intended to punish "immorality" or censor "offensive conduct". those are ideas that have no valid place in canadian law at all, and to the extent that they are creeping in through badly written legal codes providing backdoors for unwanted civil law concepts, they are mistakes waiting to be corrected.
the law is intended to protect identifiable minority groups from imminent, foreseeable harm.
this guy wants clicks on his website. he's drawing attention to himself for personal gain, and the post is walking into it. he's an idiot, clearly. but he poses no legitimate threat to anybody or anything except his own credibility, and perhaps the credibility of any educational institution he might have attended.
he deserves a fine for property damage and a reminder that free speech isn't an excuse for property damage. i would also sentence him to community service mowing the lawn of the local synagogue every week for the next 80 weeks.
