this issue is apparently too complicated for most people to understand. the very narrow category of street activity considered to be restricted in canada has explicitly to do with realistic threats to the peace that are directed at identifiable groups. it has nothing to do with "respect".
the only groups we have seen breaking these laws are palestinian and iranian aligned groups, but the police won't charge them because they're islamicist nazis.
canadians have no obligation whatsoever to be "respectful" during protest activity, and i reject that suggestion as an attack on free expression. however, public protests that realistically target minority groups with harm are a threat to public order that the canadian parliament has considered concerning enough to pass laws to restrict, but the police refuse to enforce those laws and instead continue to let violent muslim groups roam the streets unchecked.
