In recent history, Windsor has had about 22 days each year when the temperature gets up to at least 30 C.
But if climate change continues unchecked, these very hot days will be more frequent, according to projections in a new report from the University of Waterloo's Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation. Windsor could see 30 C days 79 times a year by the 2050s.
by my count, we've had 36 such days above 30 C so far in 2026. and we had a slow start to summer.
as mentioned, it rarely gets below 27 degrees from mid may to mid oct. that's no longer a barren frozen north. that's not even temperate anymore, that's subtropical. we're increasingly seeing hot days linger into november or december and starting as early as late february. the winters here now run cold but short from c. dec 20th to feb 20th and we get long bouts of spring in january and february. the cold comes in short, intense bursts.
a city where the temperature is above 20 degrees consistently from mar 1 to dec 1st, which is where we're going, is no longer one that people seek to escape due to the cold, but one that people seek to travel to to enjoy the warmth. windsor and the region should see that future and prepare for it.
