i'm consequently largely finished swapping out the ceramic and plastic for glass, steel, iron and silicon.
- i have three 750 ml glass cups that were manufactured as vases that i use for juice
- i have six 550 ml glass cups in use for water and soy milk
- i have two very large glass beer mugs in use for coffee
- there are four additional stemless wine glasses for a total of 15 glass cups
- i have swapped my plastic brita jug out for a glass water jug
- i have three small glass containers for sauces. i need some more for fruit. i don't mind storing some fruits and vegetables in old margarine containers, mostly because i don't save most, i eat the whole thing all at once. exceptions are tomatoes and red peppers for the half pasta plates (and for nachos and salsa with eggs) and pineapple for pasta. i would especially want the pineapple and tomato not in plastic nowadays.
- i have bought some canola/olive oil to replace the margarine, and some canola humus with olive chunks
- i have four 12" glass plates in use that replace the ceramic ones
- i have replaced six smaller ceramic bowl with six 28 ounce glass bowls
- i need to buy a couple more 3 quart or 4.5 quart stainless steel bowls for salads. i have one of each, and an 8 inch bowl, that i bought for utility, but it's looking like they're going to replace the 70 oz ceramic bowls i've been using for the last few years to make large salads in. i am not sure if 3 quarts or 4.5 quarts is better.
- i swapped all the plastic spatulas out with silicon and steel.
- i swapped the plastic cutting board out with a titanium one
- i have swapped my pans for eggs and bacon out with cast iron skillets
i am keeping the small ceramic plates for cutting, i still have plastic measuring cups, i have a lot of plastic tupperware that i'm reexamining and the onion soup bowls are ceramic and will stay that way.
otherwise, that's it. the ceramic and plastic is out. it's all glass and iron and silicon and steel.
i will keep the ceramic plates for holding glass or metal bowls (like a bowl of soup or salad, on the ceramic plate) to prevent spilling or control temperature and the ceramic bowls for things like chips and candy. i don't buy candy; i occasionally buy potato chips.
