further, the attempt to replace abortion as a federal issue with attacks on trans people was clearly a massive failure. there's some glimmer of hope in that realization.

it was obvious, or should have been obvious, that you weren't going to mobilize a fraction of the same number of people on restricting trans rights that you were going to on ending abortion. it's not the same kind of issue and the perception that it might have been shows how distant the republican administration is from the republican voting base. abortion was a major issue in the republican party and has since become a dominant issue in the democratic party. you can work up 1-2% of voters on trans issues, but they're mostly right-wing feminists. you're going to alienate more people running attacks on trans people. trans people aren't baby-killers. you can still get people to vote against abortion. religious people don't tend to hate the trans people the same way they hate the gays, because there is no clear restriction on being trans in any religious text. it's just not comparable as a get the vote out type issue.

anti-semitism, however, might be a replacement for anti-abortion, if the republicans decide to go down that path. jews were the original baby killers. og.

in canada, there's actually a law against targeting groups the way that the ad in question does. el sayed might have very seriously gone to jail if he ran that ad here. the seriousness of the situation needs to be understood. it's not trivial.
