the simpler time never existed. it's a myth. some kids killed themselves before social media, and there will be kids killing themselves after a social media ban. it has no relevance on the causes. being a teenager comes with shifts in hormones and a need to accept rapid change. some percentage can't do it.
you will never succeed in shielding children from reality, you need to teach them how to cope with it, and you have to begin with the starting point that life is shit and coping sucks, and they'll have to figure out how to deal with it. some percentage won't figure it out.
there's no solution to this problem.
