while it would not be very likely that ai is going to go rogue and kill us all (i'll state again that the issue being brought up is not an ai transcending it's programming, it's a programming error that nobody wants to admit. it's easily fixable. the ai did not disobey it's programming. the ai did what it was told.), it is in the realm of plausibility that a shift towards fascism/feudalism as a result of automation, if we fail to build the right political movement to direct the shift in the mode of production towards communism, might result in a capitalist overclass that wants to just wipe the excess proletariat out. that is, if the capitalists don't need the workers anymore, they might decide the world has too many useless eaters in it and just wipe the bulk of the proletariat out. the result may be a large reduction of the population, rather than extinction. i could make up numbers. 70%. 80%.

while that would result in a lot of dead people, everybody dies anyways, and it would not be a bad thing overall if it leads to a better life for the survivors. no, i'm not volunteering. but i'm not interested in religious ideologies like the sanctity of life. it may be a necessary step to maintain sustainability and stop producing so much pollution.

and it would, by definition, end capitalism, as there would be no more proletariat left to steal labour from.

because they're all dead.

the most serious concern to human life on this planet is carbon emissions, not ai or automation, and every second spent worrying about ai is a second that is wasted on not worrying about climate change.

but automation may lead to conditions that reduce emissions and i would ultimately support that, albeit in the most humane way it can be done. i'm not much interested in a dictatorship of the proletariat, either, i just want the abolition of coerced labour (wage/chattel slavery) and the abolition of inequality/class. the fascist approach of just shooting everybody is less desirable but is better than the status quo of runaway population growth, in the long run. that's not sustainable.

i would prefer something like mass sterilization. but wealth redistribution and education for women, together, seem to minimize growth rates on their own, without the need to carry out the procedures.
