so, the aluminum thing is generating evidence.

it's not just the water - it's also potentially the blue dye in the estrogen pills and the orange die in the progesterone pills. well, it's 6 of 'em everyday. if there's a lot of aluminum in the water...

so, my next set of requested tests will be to do with low stomach acid and so far includes:

1) gastrin (fast)
2) amino acid fractionation (fast)
3) aluminum

=====

these tests are pending at lifelabs:
- asca   <---crohn's
- mercury

this test requires a 12 hour fast:
- amino acid fractionation   <-----total nitrogen
- gastrin (redo)

these tests can be done next time i go
- pth
- calcitonin
- cortisol

i will need to pay for these tests out of pocket next weekish:
- celiac ($90 at dynacare)
- cea  ($36 at lifelabs)
- p-anca  + c-anca ($70 at lifelabs)
- psa: ($35 at lifelabs )
- another fit test ($59 at dynacare only)
- osteocalcin  ($65 at lifelabs)  <----double check, info from med labs
- igf-1 ($70 at dynacare) <-----double check, info from med labs

these tests need to be done at dynacare because only they offer them, although i'd rather they were done at lifelabs because they have a free reporting system:
- glutathione  <----- windsor site does not collect
- balp  (not yet ordered)

this test is covered by ohip but is not offered anywhere in the region:
- serum oxalate
- pyruvate <----manganese

this test is only available in a california lab:
-hepcidin

these tests were skipped, for now:
- vitamin e
- vitamin k
- selenium
- molybdenum
- manganese
- iodine
- copper serum

and, here's my list for absorption regarding my diet:

a - absorbing at high levels
b1 - next time
b2 - next time
b3 - next time
b5 - next time
b6 - next time
b7 - next time
b9 - absorbing at high levels
b12 - absorbing, and increasing stores
c - absorbing, at saturated levels
d - absorbing, but a tad low. i should check again soon.
e - pending  (paid)
cholesterol - perfect
k1 - pending (paid)  <----but ptt, inr, fibrinogen normal
fluoride?
aluminum?
sodium - absorbing & regulating
potassium - absorbing & regulating
magnesium - absorbing & regulating
phosphorus - absorbing & regulating
chlorine - absorbing & regulating
calcium - absorbing & regulating
chromium - next time
manganese - pending (paid) <----but,  pyruvate kinase is coming immediately
iron - not absorbing in food, but absorbing in pills
nickel - next time
copper - absorbing & regulating
zinc - absorbing & regulating
selenium - pending (paid) <----- need to find access to glutathione test, not priority right now
molybdenum - not available <---but pancreatic function is normal
iodine - pending (paid) <-----note that tsh is lowish. checking pth. no sign of goiter. dietary sodium is low...
mercury - pending
lead - low
my gastrin came in normal (76, without fasting....so, if anything, it's lowish) and they did ceruloplasmin instead of serum copper again, and it actually came in a tad higher - but still in the normal range for women on birth control.

the pyruvate got canceled for some reason. i'll need to figure that out tonight.
...and, for that reason, i need to once again stress the importance of approaching secondary sources with a lot of caution, as much of the theory is written with this idea that lenin "changed" or "fixed" marxism.

throw those texts on the dung heap, and go back and read marx directly, instead.
marx was a liberal economic theorist, and his insights remain useful.

lenin was a fascist that originated almost everything that is wrong with marxism, today.

so, if you want to be a leninist, whatever - but be clear about it. identify as one. don't smear marx, or bring him into this...
vanguardism is of course a leninist idea, and isn't present in the writings of marx. so, you can't really blame marx for it.

marx himself was pretty explicit in his support of democracy, and only criticized the french revolution in terms of it's inability to uphold it's own ideals - which is a criticism i'm certain he'd have repeated almost verbatim, if directed at the russian revolution, which was a bourgeois revolution, as well.

and, this is really the point i want to get across - i don't want to hear people describe leninsm as "marxism", as though they're the same thing. they're not. marx is not responsible for this in the way that lenin is.

we can still learn a lot from marx, but lenin belongs in the trash heap and we should all be a lot more specific in separating between these ideologies, rather than continue to conflate them.
i'll be the first to congratulate stalin for defeating fascism in europe and almost singlehandedly saving the world from utter destruction. that's credit he doesn't get and deserves.

but, i mean, it wasn't his choice - hitler stabbed him in the back. stalin's foreign policy, as he imagined it, was built on an alliance with germany, and not with the defeat it.

marxists always align with fascists when given the opportunity.

and, it's not the fault of marx, and not the fault of marxists in broader terms. it's the bloody vanguard - it's right in front of them, and they can't see it.
while late-onset alzheimer's is not a genetic condition, and there are no genes that code for it, or any statistically meaningful known associated genetic risk factors that increase the likelihood of getting alzheimer's as one ages, the mechanism by which it causes disease (it seems to be mostly caused by air pollution from cars.) leads to damaged genes in the patient with the disease.

it sounds like what she's observing is consequently a mechanism in the brain to clear damaged cells out, and that she may be confusing a reaction for the cause, potentially due to blurry thinking about what the cause actually is.

there are some forms of early onset alzheimers that appear to have a genetic basis, but it's not clear that what is called early onset and late onset alzheimers are actually the same thing.

you probably want to let these cells do their work, and focus on eliminating the factors creating the damaged cells that they're cleaning up.

did tool use create language?

i think if his thesis is to be taken seriously, it should be generalized to the idea that working together may have been a dominant factor. but, i mean, humans aren't unique in our tabula rasa at birth - essentially all advanced mammals rely on taught behaviour rather than instinct. is designing a stone age tool any more complicated than designing a hunt of a gazelle? i mean, how are they co-ordinating that, anyways? the lions need to watch and learn and understand and repeat....

so, it may have been a factor, i'll grant the point. but, i don't find the idea that it's the dominant stimulus to be compelling.

that said, i agree that the definition of language as a generative grammar is a little too restricted. i mean, we realize today that our brains are more like quantum computers than turing machines, so this idea that our brains have to work something like a recursive grammar (because they're computers.) is probably superseded.  but, it's still interesting to wonder if there's something to the idea of our brains approximating turing machines, and that having something to do with the ubiquity of recursion in human language.

but, if that's true, it seems to be unique, or almost so, as no other species communicates that way.

so, we should get over our arrogance around the point and expand the definition of language to include birds tweeting, elephants rumbling, dolphins crying and, yes, dogs howling, too.

during the course of occupy, it became progressively more apparent that the chapter i was involved with was dominated by law enforcement. we had a few talks about this - it was understood that at least one of us was a cop, and nobody was disillusioned by it. there was a general understanding that we would refrain from attacking each other, and i tended to shrug it off because i didn't expect to break any laws...

i understand that this is the wrong argument, except in situations where there's ambiguity, and i sort of fall into that fairly badly. i adopted a position very early on that i didn't want stupid thugs thinking i was up to things i wasn't, so transparency was in my interest - not because i don't value my privacy, but because i felt my safety might be under threat if i wasn't open about what i was doing. it only takes one dumb cop for somebody to lose an eye or a head (or end up in jail on bullshit charges that require a human rights trial to sett straight, as it may be).

so, i just talked freely and didn't think much about it.

but, as time went on, and i got to know the characters better, it became more and more obvious that almost all of them were cops. supposed strangers seemed to know each other fairly well, even. and, people would come in and out of the group with stories that didn't pass smell tests.

but, more suspicious than anything else was the nature of a large number of the arguments that started appearing. for a bunch of supposed anarchists, they sure often sounded like statist collectivists.

i think there were maybe one or two other people involved that weren't cops...and they tended to get attacked and expelled by the clique of cops fairly quickly, which seemed to be the point. as such, i'm not entirely sure why they let me hang around, other than that i appeared to be in a different category of some sort.

i'm getting the same feeling as i'm sorting through the kind of standard group of fake leftist youtube sites, from zero books & jacobin to some of the more obvious theatre, like jimmy dore (do you think this guy gives a fuck about anything except his bank account?). these were old feelings when initially attached to democracy now and the young turks, but it's taken some time for them to come back with this newer wave of channels. but, it's basically the same bullshit - for a bunch of self-identified leftists, they sure seem intent on attacking and marginalizing anything that might actually lead to any sort of popular resistance. i mean, i'm as anti-cool as anybody, so i can readily relate to the cynicism, but it seems almost methodical - there seems to be some entity in the background that's trying to undo the contemporary left, with the apparent intent of reconstructing it along even more pliable grounds.

and, they all have the same handful of guests on over and over again, which are the talking heads intended to push the project - it's just like network television in that sense.

this isn't the first time i've expressed my disappointed in the quality of the discourse on youtube (that sounds silly, but it's still a million times better than tv, and i have some reason to be disappointed for that reason), but it just seems to keep coming and coming - every time something seems sincere on the surface, it exposes itself over time. it's constant, and the only exceptions are the people that get attacked and spat out.

i keep pointing out that we live in the era of orwell, and that most of us would never be able to figure it out, if it were actually true. but, i remember reading articles about exactly what i'm describing happening in china, which only differs from north america in this respect in terms of transparency - we can figure out what they're doing in china if we read the right foreign sources. we have no idea at all what they're really doing over here. the mentality appears to be that dissent is some kind of mental illness, and what critical thinkers need is to be healed of their disease - and taught to love big brother, in the end.

so, the takeaway here is probably to remind you to remember that all of the critical defense mechanisms you built up over however many years of watching bullshit on tv shouldn't evaporate when you start watching vloggers on the internet - these people remain propagandists, are generally working under state control and are still trying to cure you of your illnesses. and, they will brainwash you into statist compliance, if you let them...

i'll be focusing more seriously on the harvard science lecture series this week.

and, paid labour under the age of 21 should be banned by federal law.

that's not just about child labour (and expanding the definition of a child to conform to contemporary definitions), it's also about ensuing that children aren't competing with adults for scarce jobs, and thereby driving the cost of labour down.
i'm an advocate of what i call anarchist schooling, which eliminates the classroom/grade system and allows students to work their way through the curriculum at their own pace, without the need to conform to the speed of a group. some kids will get through elementary school in six months; others will take 15 years. i'd still put teachers in classrooms and send kids to school, but the schools would be open 24/7 and the parents would decide when to send them based on their own schedules.

that aside, if we're to force people to conform to set one-size-fits-all schedules and ram kids into grade levels (and then push them through...), the school day ought to run longer, from 8:30 am to 17:30 pm, thereby eliminating or minimizing the need for parents to pay for after-school childcare.

like, that should be an aim, not a drawback.

when people talk about a "free press", that doesn't mean the freedom of the government to post memos and ensure they're not criticized in public (and then speciously accuse anybody criticizing them of being misogynists and/or racists).

what 'freedom of the press" means is the ability of citizens to criticize media and government in independent publications - which is the thing they're trying to shut down.

we live in the era of orwell, where everything means the opposite of what is intended - where marxists oppose political rights theory, and freedom of the press means you can't comment on articles in public. it's just yet another example of it. and they're everywhere - it's ubiquitous. and, like orwell suggested, you both see it in front of you and don't understand it, and yet do.

but, the trick was that they owned the platform, right?

real freedom of the press is less tied into commenting systems where they own the space and more means that a blog like this (which is still on the google servers...) can't get shut down, or at least not via government dictate.

it's something to take note of, and it restricts the spirit of press freedom, but it's not a technical rights violation and we need to stand by and take note of it rather than react directly.

but, don't let them shut you down - start a blog like i have, instead. follow my lead, here...
what we're seeing in old media - and this has been building for a while - is this realization that government is no longer effective at controlling people, because there's too many alternative voices out there. the commenting system was probably intended as an echo chamber, but it's instead created an ability to hijack the propaganda and present an alternate messaging system instead - it's become a platform for culture jamming, and the government doesn't like that, for obvious reasons.

so, what the government is doing (and the government runs the cbc. it's state media.) in removing the comments is trying to better control the message by removing distractions - they don't want people analyzing the articles, they want you to shut up and be brainwashed.

and, they can rightly fuck right the fuck off - that's a reason to yell even louder, to drown out the propaganda being spouted by the journalists, and strive that much more to deconstruct the statist messaging.
i used to post at the cbc all of the time, until they started moderating out any kind of critical analysis. if the claim is that the comments on social media reflect a poor discourse, i'm going to flip this over on it's head - rather, it's the overbearing censorship by "journalists" and "editors" at places like the cbc that are stifling the discourse, and eliminating any kind of critical voices. this idea that blacks and women are under attack is just a transparent, bullshit excuse.

the heavy-handed, right-wing censorship at institutions like the cbc is a big part of the reason why i set this site up, instead - by restricting the spectrum to a small number of concerns that are of interest to conservative readers (and the "center-left", which is just another term for "conservative"), they're completely butchering the discourse.

so, in a sense my response is "good riddance", because it will force people away from the comment section and towards sites like this, that are not nearly as censored.

and, i will continue to post analyses of cbc articles in this space; if they don't like it, they can

1. fuck off.
2. cry in the corner and
3. promptly kill themselves, immediately.

today's post is inri071.

======

i've taken to splitting my discography into phases, and my hitch-hiking trip to british columbia is a very important separation point - both in terms of the nature of the material that came out afterwards and what is now a substantial body of work that came before it. that makes it a natural point to look backwards and build compilations of intersecting ideas.

a characteristic of my work is that it does not conform well to genre norms. this is not an accident; when compiling a record, i'm guided more by the late beatles' philosophy of vast diversity in a small space than i am by any kind of desire to collect together nice singles, or by some kind of compulsive organizing into categories or concepts. i write psychedelic music. that means something different in 2015 than it did in 1966, but the commonality is that it's necessarily challenging. i want all of my records to do everything at once, and accomplish everything by their end point. that makes compilations of this sort inherently difficult, because every song touches on every compilation idea at the same time. the jazz record would have the same tracklisting as the punk record, the classical record and the folk record - and none would really be what they're claimed to be.

the one exception to this conundrum is how i interacted with ambient music in this period. i very regularly utilized ideas from the genre, but i tended to interpret ambience as something that is necessarily obscure. in this period, ambient pieces are almost always outtakes or b sides. i tended to interpret covers and remixes as ambient pieces, probably because that was unexpected. when ambient ideas make it on to the record, they're almost always for effect: introductions, endings, connecting passages, that sort of thing.

when i began reconstructing my discography in early 2014, i came across a handful of songs i'd written out into midi format and put aside for later. a number of these ended up reworked into ambient pieces, and released as b sides. i also ended up converting some of the material i wrote in this period into ambient sound collages that are more in the style of music i created after 2003.

the end result is enough bsides and remixes to put together two full cds of ambient music. none of the tracks on volumes one or two are on any official record as they appear here; this is technically a collection of remixes and outtakes.

this package was initially released with a mix tape of fragments from 1996-1999, but it has since been moved into it's own release (inri035): jasonparent.bandcamp.com/album/ambient-works-vol-0

initially written and recorded between 2000-2003 and remixed between 2014-2015. sequenced over mid may, 2015. the final compilation date was initially may 20, 2015, but both discs were mildly updated with some more appropriate mixes of the same tracks on nov 29, 2017; disc subsequently finalized as lp020. as always, please use headphones.

this release also includes a printable jewel case insert and will also eventually include a comprehensive package of journal entries from all phases of production (2014, 2015, 2017).

released april 30, 2003

j - guitars (acoustic, electric, nylon), effects & treatments, bass, synthesizers, electric air reed organ, orchestral & other sequencing, drum & other programming, generative programming (sounder), "projectile synthesis" (audiomulch), granular synthesis (granulab), sound design, electronic and conventional drum kits, sampling, loops, films, voice, digital wave editing, composition, production.

sean - vocal ideas (tracks 4 & 7, disc 1), ring modulator (track 9, disc 1)
jon - background guitar performance (track 4, disc 1)
greg - drum performance sample source (track 5, disc 1)

the various rendered electronic orchestras include synth bass, electric bass, acoustic bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, nylon guitar, guitar effects, guitar noises (fret noises, pick scrapes, knocks), synthesizer, synth pads, mellotron, choir, violin, viola, cello, contrabass, string section, pizzicato strings, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, oboe, english horn, bassoon, clarinet, flute, piccolo, mallet, piano, woodblock, music box, xylophone, tubular bells, other bells, orchestra hit, electronic drum kit, melodic toms, drum machine and orchestral drum kit.

what actually happened was that i started doing the lost symphony and got lost in the intro.

so, the intro in that demo ended up over a half hour long when i worked it out, meaning the actual song got lost in the process...

in that sense, the lost symphony is sort of "xenophanes part two", but t's more like xenophanes is the introduction to the lost symphony.

some time in 2004 or so i mentioned to sean that the trivial group will either end up being the most ridiculous, epic thing ever recorded.....or the most pretentious flop ever imagined. you can tell me what you think of it.

this version is dated to 2007, i think.

inri078 initial demo upload

today's period 3.1 run through post is for inri078, which is the lost symphony and will complete the trivial group 2xlp when it completes over the next few weeks.

i have many demos of this track to sort through, and most of them will end up on this single, which will be like the other singles in being comprehensive. but, because this is the lost symphony and not an incomplete composition, these will actually be multiple demo versions, and i'm going to want to find a way to pull them together, as well.

for right now, i'm just posting a link to the demo from 2007 that has been up there for a while and will *not* form a literal basis for the version i'm about to start one last time from scratch. however, it's the most complete version...

this will sequence after xenophanes to close the 2xlp, but it is dated to late 2003 (whereas xenophanes only completes in mid 2006).

i'm a good chunk of the ways done what i was doing.

there's a lot of data....

so, i'm going to create a separate blog just as a timeline for release dates.

this will replace the facebook page, which will be shut down relatively soon.

Monday, June 14, 2021

it's a sad day in ontario.

if you have a canadian flag, fly it at half-mast, tomorrow.

see, i think the appropriate way to deal with this is twofold:

1) find another store. there's lots of stores.
2) launch a boycott.

i know i won't be shopping there any time soon.

at the end of the day, you can't force somebody to make you a cake and, in the absence of any sort of altercation (like being chased down the street and yelled at by thugs), there's not really any reason to award any sort of damages, but you can try to push the company out of business and have them replaced with a different one that will.

the idea that this person needs to be "educated" is rather dubious - they likely understood exactly what they were saying, and you're not likely to get anywhere by trying to convince them of anything. if it was a big company, you could maybe look at their training documents. but, in context, that entire discourse is really dubious. this person doesn't like drag queens and didn't want to draw a picture of one, and that's all there is to it.

so, organizing a boycott is the proper response, not trying to "educate" them.

pickup notes in this fashion are fairly common in celtic guitar music.
i can grasp the corruption in sound audio, but how'd it get out of sync?

what seemed to disappear in the track was the pickup up note that it starts on, which both precedes and finalizes the loop. i'd notate this in 4/4 and make the loop four bars, so you'd end up with the following if you were to notate it:

x |: 1... | 1... | 1... | 1..x :|

...with the pickup note where the xes are. so, it's just an extra quarter note at the front of the pattern...

i don't know how, but something got confused somewhere, as it sounds like the pickup shifted to the one, which just put everything out of order.

like i say - this is very weird...
so, i deleted the track and reuploaded and it sounds better.

weird.

some kind of corruption somewhere, maybe.
yeah, the bandcamp compression seems to be having some difficulties with that rough version of the lost symphony i pulled from tape. there's supposed to be a flanging effect on the right channel, and it's just a gross, muddy, warbled mess on the stream. oddly, it seems like the stream is having difficulty syncing the right and left channels together as well, which i don't quite understand. the file i uploaded is correctly in sync. what process would separate the channels and then put them back together wrong? it's weird.

it sounds fine on the other computer...

but, it's a temp mix anyways, and i'll need to fix it when i clean that up over the next few weeks.
for the slow kids at the back of the room...

if you want to fight against colonialism, you need to be opposed to all forms of religion, including the ones that remain in a colonization stage, and not just the ones that did the colonizing in the past.

if you pick one colonizing force and align with it in it's struggle against the other, you will merely end up colonized by it.
while i would like to see christians and muslims continue fighting each other, as that will prevent them from uniting to undo modernity, we cannot, as leftists, be taking sides in these sorts of conflicts, or picking one pile of nonsense over the other. that's the same mistake that the anarchists made in spain, thinking they could rely on stalin for solidarity - they will slaughter us at the first chance they get.

islam is an excellent ally of capital, which is why they were chosen to be it's foot soldiers by multiple united states presidents in the last century.

but, islam is not an ally to the left, and that point needs to be understood, or we will find ourselves wiped out.
see, it's interesting to note the hypocrisy on the fake left, here.

when you deface a mosque it's a "hate crime". but, when you deface a church it's "dismantling colonialism" - despite the fact that christianity and islam are essentially the same things, and islam is responsible for inventing colonialism, imperialism and capitalism as we understand these things, today.

the confusion these people have in their minds is that they've decided everything's about race. so, when you have religious bigots that are brown, it's ok - religious bigotry is only bad when white people do it.

i'm not going to repeat the line on the right about this, as my view is the logical opposite of theirs - i don't have any more condemnation for an attack on a church than i would on a mosque, and i support a diversity of tactics in combating religion, even if i think this kind of thing is broadly counterproductive in actually turning people against religion. refer to my recent post about the poor tactical choice of killing muslims as a reaction to the re-encroachment of religion into the legal system.

but, my broader concern is this turn towards religionism on the fake left, and this blurry thinking that leads one to (correctly) look the other way when a church is targeted (unless it's a black church, of course) and (incorrectly) cry "hate crimes!" when a mosque is targeted.

that kind of blurry, inconsistent thinking is going to get us all enslaved by islam.

so, yes - i'm several days behind schedule...

what i need to do at the moment is file my backup drive and rebuild it in the back-up sources. i need to get it done before sunrise.
and, today's period 3.1 update post is for the bedroom cassette demos (inri077). this is likely complete.

==============

inri077.

these are some demos that i recorded on my 4-track in sarah and heather's apartment on dalhousie in ottawa in late 2003.

initially, the only thing i transferred was a section that became "like divine amoebas", because i was using it, directly. i seem to have lost that tape, but i have found a second tape with an early version of the lost symphony and added it to the ep. it's not currently immediately clear if there are further demos from this period in the other room in a pile of boxes or not.

released november 1, 2003

so, the pattern recently has been that i sit down for a minute after eating and pass out...

i jumped ahead to period 3.1, but it's going to be probably until early august before i can move into period 3.2. so, let's finish the daily postings...

this is inri070, which is a 2xcd that has the soundblaster mixes from 2001/2002 on one side and completed vst mixes on the other.

===

back in 2001, and bleeding into about 2003, i wrote a number of tracks into a scorewriter with the explicit intent of eventually having them performed by live ensembles. at the beginning of 2014, i decided that this wasn't likely to ever actually happen and went about completing the tracks in finalized forms - which happened over 2014 and 2015.

my initial plan for this compilation was to produce a record of midi compositions mapped to modern vst instruments as a "chiptune" (not literally) project, and have it double a record of fully realized versions of the tracks. as i went about completing the project, i began to realize that these vst versions were not sufficiently different enough from the finalized versions to justify a separate album and consequently aborted the project.

however, something that's happened since 2001 is that a more mature market has developed for midi-generated music, largely on the back of the success of the gaming industry. people have nostalgia for the sounds that their childhood gaming consoles made and an interest in listening to original music in the style of the soundtracks to those games.

i need to be clear that these are not gaming soundtracks - they're a mix of various types of classical and jazz, taking in influences from across the musical spectrum but essentially none from gaming. gaming isn't a thing i've ever really done, and the little bit i've done has tended to act as an excuse for listening to music (i had a mild civ2 obsession in early high school).

however, i feel that compiling a record of soundblaster mixes is something that could appeal to a specialized, niche audience and am going to put this record together for those people. i also feel it captures the headspace that i was in at the time. i've decided to mirror this soundblaster disc with the vst disc i was initially contemplating, to demonstrate where the technology has arrived at.

all of these tracks also appear on a set of cross-listed singles, and most of them are sequenced into a record at some point. there's more info on the track pages.

i've included the raw midi files in the download for further listening and modification.

these tracks were written from 2001 to 2003 and in some cases rearranged over the course of 2014 and 2015. all disc 1 tracks rendered through a soundblaster live! device that was manufactured c.1999. all disc 2 tracks created in cubase with vst software synthesizer technology. the compilation date is may 14, 2015. disc finalized as lp019 on jan 13, 2018. as always, please use headphones.

his release also includes a printable jewel case insert and will also eventually include a comprehensive package of journal entries from all phases of production (2001, 2002, 2003, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018).

released april 29, 2003

j - controller inputs, programming, composition, digital wave editing, effects processing, production

the various rendered electronic orchestras include acoustic bass, synth bass, electric bass, flute, clarinet, brass, trumpet, trombone, tuba, soprano saxophone, orchestra hit, violin, cello, string section (tremolo), drum machine, electronic drum kit, hand drums, finger snaps, nylon guitar, electric guitar (distorted, clean), steel string acoustic guitar, fret noise, sitar, banjo, pc card clavinet, music box, piano, organ, bells, synthesizers, mellotron and choir.

inri076

so, it's uploaded now and it's staying there.

i think that, of the pieces not yet released, this one is the most emotionally difficult to let into the public listening sphere. it was a long time ago...

if it's not obvious, the track is pretty sardonic. but, this is also, like, just pure sound art - i was feeling fucked up and just wanted to capture it best i could.

do i sound like sean in the recording? well, sean admitted he was trying to sound like me in the first place. the rabit working relationship was always sort of weird, as i was in total control of the whole process from the very start, so sean sounded the way he did because i made him sound that way (and he never figured out how to recreate that, if he actually wanted to). what is true is that there is some lingering feeling from that part of the discography, which had at that point just closed down a few months previous. but, i never released this until today, and it doesn't linger much longer than this.

that noise file i found from 2004 actually uses the same jx-8p sound effect i used in this track, and there's a conceptual idea i wanted to document that's kind of lingering, so i will probably add a noise composition to the start of this that is based on that existing file. that works out quite well.

i'm past due to eat....

==============

inri076 will be a short single with the early version of eleventh dimension (& all you need...)

soul swap piece?

============

i'll do a write-up for this a little later.

for now, i'm just going to point out that my brain sort of broke in the middle of 2003, and this was the result of it. it sort of speaks for itself in some sense.

i think maybe two people have heard this....

the second track got cleaned up and used for the start of the interplanetary isomorphism (the third trivial group symphony), but the first track just got completely discarded - and there's lots of reasons for that that we'll go over later.

what i've done in 2021, for now, is remaster the track to turn the vocals down. the track is otherwise bitwise identical (excluding some intentional clipping).

i may write an original piece to precede this to close it.

written & recorded in 2003. remastered in 2021. inri076.

as always, please use headphones.

released september 1, 2003

j - guitars, drum programming, digital wave editing, synthesizers, electric mandolin, vocals

alright, this is on it's way up a few hours later than i wanted it to be but so be it.

i've never released this before...

....and this is, i think, unlike anything i'd ever done previously. i'm lucky to have an archive like this - i don't tend to repeat myself, creatively. so, let it begin - this is period 3.1...

*deep breath*

(like anybody's listening, anyways.)

got it, actually...
ok, this is going to take longer than i thought, so i have to eat.

i need this filed before i leave the house, too.
so, what i want to do with this tonight is very simple, and it may be all i do with it at all - as this kind of pre-track for the interplanetary isomorphism is more or less stranded. in the end, i'll have to decide if i want to pull it back into the final product or leave it here, but for now what i need to do is just pull the vocals out and put them back in slightly more quietly.

i was still using cool edit to mix at this point, so the files were pasted on top of each other. period 3 is the last period using this method, but it's still dominant until early 2007. as mentioned many times, there are actually major benefits to this (and i'll continue to come back to it when i want something with a certain blurry sound, like the reprise to the time machine), and the material done in this period really exaggerates it, but it means i have to reline everything up in cubase from scratch to remix it on the existing hardware.

unfortunately, the vocals and guitars were both pasted in with a clip so it's not as easy as phase reversing them out - it leaves the distortion there as a relic. so, i have to rebuild it.

so, what i've done is copy the abandoned combined mix i had into cubase and then take each of the parts and put them into their own new tracks. once i've phase reversed each part out as best i can, they'll be lined up - and i can then reverse them back to where they were initially and mix them without the clipping.
ok, i'm caught up.

so, it's time to eat and get to the next thing, which is creating a first run of inri076.
listen, i'm pretty vocal about the need to stand up for free speech, free association, bodily autonomy and other individual rights that would be considered "political".

but, i'm just as vocal about rejecting much of any concept of property rights, including intellectual property rights.

and, while i'm not a marxist, marx and i wouldn't actually have much disagreement about rights - as i'd also agree with his denunciation of natural rights theory as fantastical, pseudo-religious statist nonsense.

that video i watched yesterday was really mislabelled, but it was more due to the interviewer rather than the author, who i take it wanted to talk about marx & natural rights but instead got hijacked by a discussion of post-modernist interpretations of leninist conceptions of human rights, which have little to do with marxist theory. i had some mild difficulty following it (i think i followed the content of the conversation, even if i didn't get the references), but he seemed to think that marxism was the same thing as leninism (ack.) and then tried to define marxist human rights theory as this pseudo-fascist application of taylorism to leninism, as it existed in the soviet union (double ack.).

it's sort of baffling to me that anybody would define themselves as a leninist in 2021, but the point needs to be stated as clearly as possible: leninism is not marxism, and people that call themselves unhyphenated marxists don't tend to cite lenin very often. certainly, if you're going to title a video with a reference to marx in it, you shouldn't talk about leninism as the content - and if you're going to talk about leninism, you shouldn't title your talk as being about marxism. these aren't related traditions anymore, if they ever were. unhypenated marxists tend to interpret leninists as cryptofascists, and leninists tend to look at marxists as smelly idiots.

so, it took me some time to figure it out...

i'll readily concede that human rights were not particularly important ideas in the soviet union. china's not in the realm of european civilization, so talking about human rights is a complicated thing, but the russians are europeans so the discussion can be had in the context of european rights theory - and the soviets were pretty vicious, there's no question, and right from the start to the end, too. but, lenin's economic theory was not marxist, it was taylorist, which is the point that unhyphenated marxists make in rejecting him as a fascist. taylorism was the same economic theory in use in american manufacturing at the time, had parallels in dickensian england and was the basic economic framework adopted by mussolini and hitler (although hitler was also famously a fordist and a keynesian). this is a big part of why unhyphenated marxists are so dismissive of leninism - it's just based on the same economic framework as then contemporary capitalism, as orwell so aptly pointed out.

and, if you read lenin carefully, he didn't even obscure the fact. for all the talk of russia trying to leapfrog the capitalist state of development, lenin was actually pretty explicit in his embrace of historical materialism, and the need for russia to go through the process in the right order - which is why it ended up the way it did, rather than in spite of it. mao tried a little harder, but lenin was fully cognizant of the restraints imposed on russia within the theory of historical materialism, and didn't even get that far before he was dead.

stalin was of course a tsar, so the whole thing falls apart after that. but, this idea that lenin was doing anything other than just trying to convert russia's backwards economy into an american-style taylorist capitalist state is kind of outside the realms of actual factual reality. there's just so much propaganda around it, including his own, that it's hard to get to the really simple, unremarkable facts of the matter.

so, marx would have been just as critical of the russian revolution as he was of the french revolution, and trying to frame marx' views on much of anything in terms of leninist theory is a ridiculous category error.

...even if it took me a few tries to figure out what they were even talking about.

marx lived before any meaningful articulation of "human rights", anyways - what he had in front of him was "natural rights theory", as begun by religious scholars and culminated in things like social contracts and lockeanism. as mentioned, i agree that the crux of this theory is a lot of bullshit - there are no rights out there in the ether to find with human reason, and there is no god to put them there. but, we do have democracy, and ought we not use the legislature to decide certain things are inviolable by the state? indeed, we must.

marx had no faith in a bourgeois state to actually uphold any concepts of rights theory, though, and i don't blame him for that view, at all. you have rights until you don't - because they're not out there in the ether, there is no god to put them there and the bourgeoisie can eliminate them with a stroke of a pen if they truly want to. but, to suggest that means we ought to shrug it off is both nonsense and entirely the opposite of what marx meant to say; marx' point was not that rights don't or ought not to exist but that, as we cannot trust the bourgeois state to uphold them, we must constantly be vigilant in upholding them - or risk collapsing into slavery. if he were alive today, he'd be as vocal a defender of individual rights theory as anybody.

he didn't like property rights,  and i do not either, but it's a result of the proudhonian idea (that he stole) about property being theft. marx would have advocated the libertarian principle that an individual's rights end where another's begin, and for that reason would have argued that property rights are impossible, and aligned with proudhon on that point as a result of it - even if he attacked him in an apparent attempt to deflect from the fact that he stole a lot of his ideas and then tried to take credit for them. it's because of things like this that anarchists can accept marx as a valid theorist, while rejecting people like lenin and trotsky as basically fascist goons.

so, i mean, i'm not a marxist, and i'm not interested in reading all these secondary sources on the evolution from marxism to marxist-leninist-maoism, as it becomes a kind of fascism in the process. but, i know enough about marx to know he'd have stood with me and the other anarchists on most rights issues, and not with these post-leninist cryptofascists that want to bring in taylorism (along with some kind of cult of reason) at the boot of a gun  - and that that guy was badly misinformed via solely reading misleading secondary sources if he thought marx would be aligned with taylorist producerism over enlightenment liberal rights theory.
my peripheral eyesight is not particularly good and helmets make it harder for me to see what's happening around me, as well as slow down the amount of time it takes for me to turn my head.

while i'm hyperaware of what's happening around me (i've never been hit by a car in 30 years of heavy biking), i actually ride on the sidewalk or try to take back roads rather than major highways....and would encourage more cyclists to do so.

regardless, the probability that i'm going to alter my behaviour under any sort of incentive system is 0%. you can write me tickets, and i'll file a constitutional challenge. and, if i lose the challenge, i'll just throw the tickets in the trash - and you can't collect because i'm too poor. then, if i ever get any money, i'll just pay the fine, instead.

today's post is the second version of the lps-only dvd.

i think the rule of thumb should be (and i'm not just figuring this out now, i posted this in this space over a year ago) that if you want to try to stop a virus then you need to be thinking in binary terms.

if you're going to mandate something, you should be confident that it's 100% effective - and go that extra step to make sure it is.

so, if you think the virus can jump 2 m, you need a 5 m social distancing policy, and you need to enforce it. if you can't enforce it, you should abandon it.

and, if you think that masks are only 80% effective, you should actually ask people not to wear them - and try to get them to wash their hands more often, instead.

we do this every time a public health problem comes up - we get arrogant and decide we know what to do, and then realize 100 years later that we were  exactly, completely wrong. this isn't different. but, what is different is that we at least have the theory to figure it out right away, rather than need to stumble around trying to figure it out for the next 100 years.

trust me, somebody will find this blog in the year 2220 and realize how fucking right i was, in the face of total idiocy, at every level.

but, if you don't want to walk down that path with me, let's at least realize that it's time toe ease up on the selective pressures. the vaccines will be more effective, that way - if you're not creating selective pressures to undo them.
let's stop for a second, because maybe people need this explained to them.

so, social distancing is supposed to prevent the spread of the disease, and maybe it might work if the following things are known and implemented:

- we have to know exactly how far the virus can jump in order to know how far to stand apart.
- we have to fucking do it.

but, we didn't and still don't know the answer to the first part and, if you've been in a grocery store, you know that the second part is fucking hopeless.

then, by implementing this in a half-effective way, without knowing how far the virus can actually jump, what we're doing is creating selective pressures for transmission amongst mutations that can spread further.

let's be concrete.

suppose the virus can jump a maximum of 2.5 metres and the social distancing policy is 2 metres. now, the virus will have some variation, just like humans - some mutations will allow the virus to jump a maximum of 0.5 metres, whereas others may allow it to jump 3 or 4 metres. but, if you force people to stay 2 metres apart from each other, only the viruses that can jump further than 2 metres will get to their next host and transmit further. the ones with minimal ability to jump will not be successful and will die out.

now, it is true that if we were to set social distancing at 3 m and stick to it, and we got a little luck in no mutations getting over that, then the virus would die out via social distancing. but, if we calculated this wrong (and we clearly did.) and then were half-assed about enforcing it (how about quarter-assed, really?) then it's eventually going to be the case that all of the strains of the virus will be able to jump past that 2 metre distance, and social distancing becomes meaningless because we've spurred the virus to evolve beyond it.

so, do we increase social distancing to 10 metres then? well, that's what you'd need to do, if you were to salvage the concept, yes....

likewise, if you start with a virus that can only get through a cloth mask 10% of the time (which is an underestimate of the starting point) and force everybody to wear a mask then only that 10% of virus genomes will carry on to the next generation. but, once that happens, all of the strains can then get through masks with ease - because we've driven the transmission process to select for the variants most adept at getting through masks. we'd have to all wear n95s, then. but, what happens when that selective process works it's way through?

this used to be a relatively harmless virus, but i told you, like, last year that it wasn't going to stay a harmless virus if we kept putting these kinds of selective pressures on it to mutate into a more dangerous one. so, now what?

well, right now, we've just made it more contagious. i don't think we've made it for deadly. yet.

but, if we want to avoid doing that, we should probably back off and stop being so aggressive with it and sort of let it burn out. we have 70%+ vaccination rates now. that's as close as we're ever going to get to mitigating this, and we should be careful to avoid creating a disaster out of a situation that seems like it's going to be alright.
if you're concerned about the virus evolving to be more contagious, maybe you should stop driving it's evolution with measures like social distancing?

remember when i said i was typing into the other computer and backposting here now, instead?

well, i had to stop when i was reinstalling to that machine, and then it got put off for about ten days or so. it's just a reminder of how much i'm typing here - it was over 100 pages at 8x11 to sort through. but, i'm copying over the last bit of it, now.

i want to finish filing the machine before i turn it off and shift gears on monday or possibly tuesday.

for now, today's post is the 6th (and last, so far) compilation of flac dvds, inri063-inri069.

no, i need to actually really clarify the question: do you want muslims and christians to build a coalition and get along and work together?

like, have you thought that through?

have you worked out the consequences of such a thing?

i'd have to argue that i'm more in favour of a divide and conquer strategy to keep them bickering with each other, as if they ever get together and join forces, the world is truly done for - it would be the end of modernity, as we understand it.

and, i'd find myself aligning with the chinese, as bad an ally as they would be, to try to stem the collapse into backwardsness.

that is the last thing the world needs.

so, when i look outside and see interfaith marches, my blood curdles - that is frightening.

first upload of inri075

the next chunk of material to come up is going to be inri075-inri080, inclusive. some of this is totally done (inri079, inri080), some of it needs a brief look at (inri076) and some of it will be a project to finish (inri075, inri077, inri078). i'm going to try to get an approximate document for each project up, one per day, over the next week. this was an unstable period, so some of these releases will be short eps meant to represent ideas that were temporarily abandoned due to needing to relocate and finished elsewhere in a different mindset as a result...

for today, here is a rough outline of inri075:

this release is meant to document a tracklist of acoustic material, as performed over the summer of 2003, when i was backpacking across canada. some of these will be tracks from period 2 and others will be demos for the upcoming period 3. as such, it's a sort of middle point between what was done over 2000--2002 and what is coming up for 2003-2007.

i want to re-record a number of these tracks on acoustic guitar because the demoes i have were done for electric or classical, and may rerecord everything in the process. we'll have to see.

for now, this is a starting ep that i'll fill out over the next few weeks as i finish these releases for period 3.1, which ran from mid-2003 to mid-2004 and was kind of unfocused and scattered due to reality around me.
i'm reposting this to add aluminum to the list.

my lead levels were fine, which i checked because i'm close to detroit. but, we add huge amounts of aluminum to the water to clear it of lead, and guess what? aluminum also blocks iron...

it's not going to be a major priority, but if we get through this list of things and find nothing then it's worth exploring.

and, it will help me understand if the aluminum in the water is a potential problem or not, as well.

my greatest fear is that the muslims and christians unite into a single conservative religious voting block to ram through a return to the dark ages.

...because, then we're fucked.
i'm a godless liberal.

and, these interfaith marches scare the fuck out of me.
and, i think i have good reason to fear the renormalization of religion.

that's not something that belongs in the dsm - that's a rational analysis of something that has a strong potential to substantively harm me.
it's the system of illiberal laws that is the enemy here - not the people enslaved under it's grips.

so, don't shoot the messenger...

but, like i say - i strongly suspect that none of this is actually real, and these kinds of scary displays of religious solidarity are the ultimate intended outcome of the propaganda that created them.
my ultimate concern is not whether some idiots killed some muslims in london, but whether a corollary of that is that i need to fend off further restrictions to my freedom brought in as a result of it.

if you're concerned about the encroachment of religion into the legal system, the right way to do it is to fight it in court, not to lash out against people that are ultimately victims of the ideology, as well.
i think i've been clear that i'm concerned about the encroaching renormalization of religion that is occurring as a byproduct (intentionally, seemingly) of large scale migration from conservative countries. it should be clear that my concerns are rooted in ideology, not in race - as are the concerns of the people pushing the ideology. this isn't about race, it's about religion - and if it's about religion, it's about control.

and, i support a diversity of tactics.

but, i don't think that killing people is helpful, and these kinds of marches demonstrate why - it just makes people more likely to walk freely into the grips of religious control.

...which is why i tend to be very skeptical about news reports of this nature, and tend to avoid commenting on them. i often don't believe that what's being reported is actually true, and i'm often suspicious that events are being manufactured to generate sympathy for the ideologies that the elite wants us to adopt. but, i haven't any evidence of these suspicions.

what i'll say is that a large interfaith march is an unsettling thing to see, and it makes me feel unsafe and uncomfortable - because it indicates that those who are trying to bring religion back are getting what they want, at the necessary expense of secularism and individual freedom.
listen - a multifaith march is not something i'd go anywhere near, under any circumstance. those people creep me out even more than the anti-lockdown people do.

that's not anywhere near where i stand on the political spectrum.

sorry.

what it says in the christian bible - the revelation, which was written in greek, rather than aramaic - is that israel will be destroyed from the east. i always laugh at these christians that think russia means the east; in fact, russia is to the west of israel. rather, everybody living in israel at the time would have known that the east meant the persians, the ancestors of today's iranians.

so, what do the evangelicals actually want? do they want to support israel as a colonial state and have it take over the region and bomb the iranians? i mean, you could naively assign that to the generals (although larry aptly described why that's wrong), but what about the evangelicals, who you couldn't even get to vote at all until reagan?

what the evangelicals actually want is the second coming, the return of jesus, who will separate the worthy from the damned on judgement day. and, in order for that to happen, the temple must be destroyed, by the beast from the east. which is iran.

so, this idea of evangelical support for israel is sort of a double-edged sword, like jesus' wacky tongue, in the psychedelic visions that describe the prophecies - they want to ensure israel exists....so it can be destroyed. and, by who? by iran.

@jessica murray  basically they want  Armageddon to come , on the plains of Meggido and all that jazz so Jesus will some again and lead righteous ones to heavenly gardens… Funny thing is they are all basically anti semites of the worst kind. If you ask them if Jews will be taken to heaven , since Jesus showed on this plane as Jew,  they will tell you ( as long as you are not TV, journo etc)  they will all convert …. Lmao.

@Digital Communist  these weird contradictions are pretty standard in europeanized interpretations of christianity, and it's partly because it was never an organic thing in that part of the world. the original christians were, of course jews, themselves. but, the parts of the world where christianity was an actual thing on the ground were egypt and syria, not western europe. in europe, christianity came in via imperialism, feudalism and violent conquest - and was never really successful in converting substantial portions of normal people. so, there was this motif in the middle ages about the jews killing jesus, which is the central point of the religion - christianity is incoherent without the crucifixion, but that doesn't matter in the westernized versions, because it was never anything besides a tool of domination. i'm not going to go down the rabbit hole on this and accuse the british of doing this as a means of control, but it does serve that purpose, still, even today. so long as people think jesus is coming back any day, they're apt to be less concerned about materialist conditions in their physical lives.

@jessica murray  British came late into whole jesus game, nor it was basis of their imperial conquest. Theirs was commercial imperialism , even from the early days their ruling class  held fairly cynical view . Sprinkled with racial theories of the era , Darwin and all that… Various imperial Chinese  dynastic eras are similar in approach…On the other hand , Portuguese, Spanish,  Arabs ( yes Islam is unreformed Old Testament religion)  really did it in high gear , lmao.

and, it's of course worth pointing out that the spanish and arabs were both mostly looking for gold, even if they were directed by their respective religious overlords in their journeys to do so. the religion was central to most of their atrocities, as it formed the justification for them. but, from the time the arabs headed across the desert to the time the spaniards crossed the atlantic, they were always looking for gold....

@Digital Communist  it seemed to post in chunks, but then deleted again when in one piece, so let's try this sequentially. google doesn't tell you what the filters are, so you have to experiment...

@Digital Communist  this isn't working, suggesting it might be being deleted by a live person, rather than filtered by a computer. ok, let me give it some time, then.

@Digital Communist  yeah, it's sort of a half-truth. the british have always been weird. it's true that the british people never embraced christianity the way they did in italy or france, but the british aristocracy was perhaps the most cynical of the bunch. so, it's true that the british were a commercial power, but what that means is that their use of religion as a control mechanism was always starkly cynical, not that it wasn't there. when the puritans left britain, a big part of the reason is that they thought the british state was horribly corrupt - but the fact that they existed in britain is a consequence of the tactics of control used by the state, which created them in the first place.

( to use a twisted metaphor, it's like god's creations realizing how sadistic their creator was. as mentioned, i don't think that this idea that zionism was invented to control british christians is actually true - but it might as well have been, and it's the kind of thing that people in the future might decide is obvious, in the absence of sufficient source material.)...

the more i've looked into this...

brushing and flossing really probably aren't the best way to clean your teeth, whether they're crooked or not. it's a kind of unsophisticated, brute force attack, and for a lot of people is probably creating more problems than solving.

these newer approaches seem to be superior, and will probably replace the older tactics altogether, in time.

but, i need to take it one thing at a time - if i can't get into the curved space behind my teeth with a brush, i need something to spray the area with, instead.
you can also buy these low frequency things that shake it off....

that's the sort of thing i need to look at, as brushing isn't going to help, in that area - and i have to sort of get it and back off before i ruin my gums even more.
so, i mentioned that my crooked teeth were getting worse and it was probably driving the recession...

it's worst on the lower incisors, to the point that one of them is going to get crushed and just fall out, eventually. i don't seem to have extra teeth, but they're completely out of line at the top, as well, in an arrangement that you'd normally associate with extra teeth. on the bottom, the canines are both shifting directly inwards, which is just destroying those little incisors.

i've looked into how to fix this, and it sounds like the cure is worse than the disease, especially at my age, and especially especially in the presence of osteopenia. i'd have to dissolve the bone in the jaw and rebuild it. that's not actually feasible.

but, i've been slowly realizing that i can't brush them anymore, either. it's not that bad in the front, but i'm noticing what is probably the first actual plaque buildup that i've ever had in my life on the inside, and i can't seem to stop it. i've tried rolling up toilet paper and trying to kind of polish it off, and it seemed like it was working, but it wasn't. i've tried flipping the toothbrush over perpendicular to the teeth, and the head is still too big.

if i could find a small enough brush, that would probably do it, but where - and at what expense?

rather, i think i'm going to pull the trigger on a waterpik system when the check gets here (and it had better get here by tuesday at the latest). the basic physics of the shape of the teeth, due to being crushed, is that they're now curved and therefore unreachable with a brush. maybe there's some other answer, but i don't think there is one - i'm going to have to spray them down, instead.

i've mused about genetic approaches to trying to fix my gums, but that's not going to fix that one incisor, which i'm just waiting to fall out. i'll have to bring it up with the dentist in september - is it better to pull a crushed tooth like that, to try to save the rest of them?
and, where did iran get all of these weapons to ship to venezuela from, exactly?

if the russians or chinese wanted to ship them weapons, they'd just fly them in.

and, why exactly isn't the united states intercepting this supposedly dangerous vessel?

as mentioned, the vessel is probably full of oil, and the oil is probably destined for houston. now, it seems as though we're going to ship weapons to iran, in return. which sounds familiar, doesn't it?
no, all the recent brown immigrants to canada are not going to vote for a fag like jusin trudeau.

rather, they're going to vote for a good manly dumbass like doug ford...

again: this sounds strange to americans, right? immigrants voting for conservatives? what? but, it's well understood that these are the demographic boundaries, here. there's been influential books written about it. all the strategists know all about it.

it's not an ethnic characteristic, which is kind of the stupid mistake that liberals make about brown people and their voting preferences. if you listen closely, you even hear a sense of entitlement in the liberal party about it.

rather, there's two simple facts underlying it:

1) brown people tend to come from more conservative cultures, and our conservative party is actually a conservative party. they readily identify with it, because it's leaps and bounds the closer thing to their cultural value system. they don't have the baggage that the republicans have, either.

2) our immigration system was overhauled by stephen harper and jason kenney (now the premier of alberta) in the 00s to actually target conservatives, and i see no evidence that the liberals have fiddled with it at all, since. so, it's not just that recent immigrants tend to be more conservative in general because they come from more conservative cultures, it's that the immigrants we pick and fast track are specifically chosen and fast-tracked because they're conservatives. our system identifies conservative immigrants and targets them, because it was designed by conservative politicians - they've gotten what they wanted.

the election of doug ford was a little weird in the sense that it was the first time these changes were made obvious, but it didn't surprise anybody and the projections are that his coalition is likely stable for the near future. that's the new toronto, as redesigned by jason kenney.

the question is whether the white flight driven by the pandemic is acting as a catalyst or not...
i would be happy to move to a less expensive downtown toronto core and thrive in the decay.
upwards of 200,000 people have left toronto in the last year and a half.
here's an open question - what kind of demographic changes are all of these people moving in and around toronto going to create?

if i understand correctly, what's happening is that the money is fleeing the city, even if the result is higher property values (and empty or half empty properties). it's becoming a city of renters, as all of the property owners flee the city. that's not that different than what happened in detroit in the 70s, although the starting demographics are radically different.

i'm not going to make any predictions at this point because i haven't seen any useful data, but i wonder if the liberal strongholds in toronto (which were defined mostly by older white families) might have just thinned themselves out to the point that other parties might find themselves more competitive. i mean, that seems to be the basic movement - wealthy white liberals are moving into conservative ridings, and probably not in large enough numbers to swing them.

it seems counterintuitive right now...

...but the main beneficiary of this migration, as the city hollows out to leave behind less wealthy recent immigrants and white renters, may end up being doug ford. that's his base, and they may have been handed the city by liberals trying to get out as fast as they can.
