the empirical data is extremely clear that high interest rates do nothing to stop inflation, because inflation is neither created by nor is solved by monetary policy.

that theory was debunked decades ago. inflation is caused by increases in capital inputs.

i would support lower interest rates in canada and the united states. but i guess i'll take advantage of higher interest rates if i can.

the bank just sent out a lengthy investor pamphlet encouraging account holders to invest in weapons. they use the orwellian term of "national defense", but they mean buying stocks in weapons manufacturers. there is a 0% chance i'm going to invest in any kind of guns or war spending. there is a 0% chance i'm going to invest in oil. but i need a medium term return and it doesn't look like i'm going to get it on renewables. i may put a little in hydro energy if i can find a good deal.

the most ethical and pragmatic investment decision in canada right now is probably bonds, unfortunately.
