when the media nowadays talks about "foreign interference" the unstated implication is that this is some kind of bad thing because countries have "sovereignty". i dunno where this nonsense came from. it's some kind of property right of a localized elite to enslave their own population.

"go enslave your own people. you have no right to interfere with how i enslave mine.".

that's a bunch of bullshit. if it's in a state's self-interest to interfere in the affairs of another state, it should aggressively do so, and tell them to fuck off if they don't like it. i believe that i have a right to interfere in the affairs of any foreign state that i choose, if it is in my self-interest, and i won't be told otherwise. go fuck yourselves. the only sovereignty i recognize is the sovereignty of the individual to make choices in it's individual self-interest.

i remember reading books written in the 50s or even in the 90s when the perspective was entirely different. it was just understood that everybody spies on each other. nobody gave it a second thought. it was just a fact of reality.

when did "foreign interference" become something to get upset about rather than a triviality to shrug off?
