highs this week are still around 20 degrees celsius, with no end in sight. in canada, that's considered late summer. we've had a handful of cool days but fall has not really started here yet.
rather, i spent a long time yesterday typing, in a mild jump forwards to the next stage. first i bought some extenders for the potlights in the kitchen which were only $10 and gets the light out of the recess and into the space. i have made a huge attempt to increase the amount of light down here and it's just never enough. i have 1500 lumen bulbs spaced a metre from each other and it's still dingy and dim. i don't get it, and i don't like it. i like bright, powerful light fixtures. i know that led bulbs dim at a certain temperature, but it's not that hot in here. it seems like the power is wired badly and something upstairs is reducing the circuit, leading to a decrease in power. i don't know if i can even still buy tungsten bulbs in canada.
i re-entered items for the existing five disc cycle to the discogs and librarything sites, and cross-referenced to my web version of the music web (which is not the same as the music web i'm going to be building offline) and re-entered items for the next five discs, which i'll be cycling in and out.

the music web - starting with miles davis - is going to have a new page at the deathtokoalas blog. the point is that i want to use the timeline feature so it's likely to lose the scrolling aspect. or i might design a new blog for it.
there is a small mouse in here, which i have been aware of since i moved in last year. it's not a roof rat from upstairs. i found one dead one in the furnace room when i had it open, and the droppings i found last week were roof rat, not mouse. i have not seen further rat droppings but i saw the mouse for the first time this evening. it seemed like it was trying to get out the windows. it might be trapped in here and trying to get out and i might have to kill it. or it might have been looking for water (window condensation. it's dry in here.). i think the mouse is coming in here periodically because it's eating the bugs, which is reason enough to kill it. there's been zero signs of food tampering or even activity in the kitchen. when i find these little mouse droppings, they're where bugs are, not where my food is. i wasn't even sure it was a mouse. it could have been from big roaches. but i saw it tonight. i don't want the mouse eating the centipedes, which are less damaging than mice for roach control. there are not many roaches down here that i can see, but there have been a lot of centipedes, and it's implied. so there's an ecosystem, with the mouse eating both the good and and bad bugs. it's the mouse i want dead. i think i've finally traced it to the upstairs bathroom and that it's coming in via the wall void separating the bedroom from the laundry area. i would be very surprised if there was more than one and it looked like an adult mouse. it's probably near end of life.
so i'm going to get the aluminum up first and then i'm going to have to pull everything out from the wall, see if i can find the hole, patch it and reclean all the floors. that's going to slow me down by a few more days, but it's actually progress because i have been aware of this for a while but the mouse was kind of a ghost. i think the presence of a mouse indicates the absence of the roof rats, which may have even come in here looking to kill the mouse.
as with the rat, if it can get out, that's the easiest answer. there is nothing for it to eat in here, except the bugs. i need to focus on keeping it out by resealing any holes that may have opened up.
