and, the chinese are supposed to be the communists. lol.

deathtokoalas
we'll have to see if the cultural differences in china lead to different outcomes than happened in america, but i'm going to make a suggestion as to what i think is likely to happen.

for a long time, america had more jobs than there were people able to do those jobs, and that allowed for a union movement to develop that won substantive rights for the american working class, allowing it to usurp levels of wealth that are supposed to be reserved for the bourgoisie - and stabilizing the system, in the process. but, capital is always seeking to undercut everything it can to maximize profit by any means possible so it couldn't deal with that, and migrated to a society that had more people than jobs, thereby allowing it to exploit the labour more effectively once again - and create higher levels of profit. if the number of jobs in china is catching up to the number of people, what effects will that have? will capitalism transform itself under the more communitarian concepts of chinese culture?

i might rather suggest that you're already starting to see capital begin to move out of china and into countries like vietnam, but that in the long run the most likely destination point is africa.

and, so the question is perhaps a little bit different - will china react to it's abandonment by capital in the same way that the west did, or will the cultural differences, including a culture of stronger state interference, lead it to react differently to this ongoing and inevitably accelerating abandonment?

also: while the term "global south" may be looked down upon nowadays, china is neither geographically nor historically a member of that demographics. china exists in the northern hemisphere; it snows in beijing. and, it's also, historically, one of the centres of global trade. there's really no context at all where a discussion of china in the global south is at all coherent.

dave
China is already anticipating that Africa will be the future for low-skilled labor, which is why they are already starting to set up companies in Africa and also building the necessary infrastructure and framework for private companies to do business with african countries. The West mostly interacts with the bourgeoisie in Africa, while China is much more focused on interacting with the working class and with the states.

China is a huge country and it has in the north a border with Russia and in the south a border with Vietnam (Australia is in the southern hemisphere, but is of course part of the conceptual west). Also the "global south" is used to describe mostly income-low countries, but also countries which fought against the imperialistic forces of the "north".

deathokoalas
well, i think there's some naivete, here. but, this is the sort of great experiment in front of us - will marx be better realized in china, or will they just self-destruct and collapse into themselves like the west did? and, will capital allow itself to be transformed in china, or can it escape the transformation and flee elsewhere?

but, china was never colonized in that sense, either. it suffered a decline, but there were never colonial governors in china the way there were in india. and the chinese are even mostly white too. so, could it be that the brandt line had a little bit of specious racism baked into itself in assigning china to the south rather than the north?

dave
We can't forget that socialist countries who fail, are usually under fierce attack by the west, either by military force and/or by economic embargos. People have been predicting the collapse of China for decades but it is growing stronger and stronger instead. And lets not forget that the capitalist countries caused the last financial crisis and if China continues to rise like this it will cause the collapse of the Dollar, similar to the colapse of the British currency in the last century. Since China is a dictatorship "of the proletariat" it has not really trouble in controlling the capitalist class and there are many strict rules for the movement of capital, but also classical ways in which capitalists establish their power. Without propaganda from corporate media, corporate think tanks and lobbyist, it is quiete difficult to cause political transformations

China was a semicolony. Hong Kong was under British rule till 1997 with a british Governor and Macau was under the rule of Portugal. Also several other territories of China were either partly controlled by other countries or the imperealists had at least a very strong influence in those regions. Chinese people might have quite white pigmented skin, but white supremacy is not a function of skin pigmentation (in the US irish and italian people weren't considered as white for a time). Asian people aren't accepted as white in the west

did you watch the video? china is the current dominant capitalist state, and the video is about what happens when capitalism inevitably collapses there. i'm not wasting my time with people that think china is a communist state, or allowing you to base arguments on the absurd idea that china is repressing capitalism. what has happened is that china has stolen capitalism from the west, but now the question is whether it can keep it from abandoning it, as well. the rest of what is in this reply is utter nonsense.

the fact that china was able to license a port and maintain sovereignty around it indicates that they were not colonized, not that they were. it's important that you don't confuse colonialism - which involves eradicating the culture and sometimes even the people of a vanquished nation - with just losing a war. china lost the opium wars, but they were not colonized as a consequence of it. and, what white supremacists imagine that whiteness is - which often involves the integration of semitic religious values that did not exist, historically, in northern europe - has little to do with the phenotypic and genotypic fact that the chinese are ethnically and culturally white.

dave
China might be a pretty "capitalistic" state, but there is of course a huge difference between China's economic system and western economic systems and describing both as simply "capitalists" isn't helpful at all. China is repressing political capitalism and attempts of companies to rival or control  the state in certain areas. like they do in the West (https://www.marketwatch.com/story/ant-group-to-fall-under-chinese-government-oversight-as-alibabas-jack-ma-yields-to-regulators-11618229440)

"licensed" a port??? Seems you missed quiet a lot of chinese history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Hong_Kong
And Chinese are obviously neither genotypic nor phenotipic white, I mean you can of course clearly distinguish between Chinese people and white poeple https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Person_of_color
And the chinese culture has almost nothing to do with western culture and many white people actually look down on their culture

deathtokoalas
the video demonstrates very clearly that surplus value in china is extracted much more efficiently than it is in the uk. if you think that chinese attempts to regulate third-party websites are some kind of a repression of capitalism, and maximal efficiency of the extraction of surplus value isn't, then you're operating under strange, colloquial concepts of capitalism that demonstrate a poor understanding of what it actually is. further, those are essentially the same policies promoted by elizabeth warren, who considers herself a market fundamentalist, and is doing it in an attempt to increase competition. and, that's basic first year economics nowadays - markets don't reach points of equilibrium if left alone, but rather coalesce into oligopolies that need to be broken up by the state. that is not the opposite of capitalism, but the implementation of it, to anybody who hasn't drunk the pseudoscientific koolaid of hayekian libertarianism.

in david's topsy-turvy concept of economic theory, breaking up monopolies to foster competition is state interference and therefore communism - and capitalism is when the state allows those monopolies to develop by refraining from interfering in the inevitable market failure that follows from total laissez-faire approaches to "free markets". it's perfectly orwellian, in truth.

...and it suggests that david has neither read marx nor smith, let alone bothered with a first year course on the topic.

now, the british licensed ports all over europe during that period, including in gibraltar, in malta and in the crimea, and generally after winning a conflict. did the british colonize russia, spain and greece, as well? no...

the chinese lost a war and had to cede some territory for a while. that's great power competition, it's not colonization. and, they gave hong kong back - they're still in gibraltar.

i would not consider the chinese to be people of colour, and neither have europeans, historically.  marco polo, for example, decided that they were white. it's actually something that developed primarily out of japanese racism towards china, and has contemporary roots in the cold war.

but, ask yourself how much chinese culture has to do with western culture the next time you see a chinese orchestra perform western classical music, or chinese students excel in western science at western universities - or, for that matter, have debates about western economics, whether it be an embrace of marxism or an application of neo-liberalism. while i agree that china has a very different historical development (china was not influenced by socrates or jesus or ceasar), and it approaches things from somewhat of a unique filter as a consequence of it, it has also fully embraced everything western in this period of pax americana - and partly because it is smart enough to see the value in doing so.

so, yes - i'm going to argue that the chinese are genetically and culturally white people that belong to the global north, and were always interpreted that way, historically. and i'll argue that suggesting otherwise is a consequence of specious racist stereotyping that came out of the japanese occupation (and were adopted by the west as a part of the cold war) and is not borne out by actual evidence.

dave
Look I am not stating that China is not a capitalist state, all I am saying is that the capitalism of the west is much worse then Chinas, the capitalism of the US fosters imperialistic wars and exploits people of the global south. Chinas economic system might not be perfect, but it's much better then the US. Can we agree on that?

THis wasn't supposed to show that China is a communist country, but that China's capitalist system is much less a laissez-fairemarket, which I think makes a huge difference and simply equatting Chinas economic system with west because both are "capitalist" doesn't allow any nuance

China tried to implement a more marxist system in the last century, but it failed. So I think that a much more graduale approach is much better for developing a socialist system. And if you want to implement a socialist/marxist system you won't be able to do it in a vaccum, so I think the approach of China to first develope itself, to build up economic capacities and to build up a trade network which spans around the whole globe, is a much smarter approach to achieving their goals. Lets not forget: the west will attack you if you try to be a socialist country, so by being a integral part of the capitalist global economy, China is protecting itself to what the West did to the Soviet Union, Cuba (total economic embargo) etc..

The theory of Marx and Smith and so on might be quiet accurate description of capitalist system, but if you can't integrate THEORY with hard geopolitical truths you are doomed to fail

deathtokoalas
i don't agree that china's capitalism is "better" than america's, at all, as though this is some kind of moral issue. that's a constant with fake left progressives nowadays - this constant moralizing that we used to associate with conservatism. but, let's put that aside and address the question, as loaded as it is. first, again, watch the video - the exploitation of the chinese worker is far greater than the exploitation of the american worker, partly because america has experienced a labour movement and china has not. the point of exporting capitalism to asia was to allow for greater exploitation of the worker, as the west had unions and asia does not. and, this is in line with marxist theory, which requires a socialization of production before socialism can develop. that is, marx would have predicted that chinese capitalism would be more vicious and more exploitative than american capitalism at this stage in development. second, the idea that china is not engaging in imperialism or triggering wars in the global south is simply not upheld by the evidence. the geopolitics of africa is a complicated, difficult topic, but trust me - china is a vicious imperialist actor in that region. china is also engaging in colonialism in south america, and is very openly interfering in the political system there, with the general aim of extracting resources with as minimal compensation as is possible. some countries in south america are actually even currently experiencing indigenous revolts against chinese exploitation under the false guise of "socialism".

in regards to your second third reply, the way i'm going to interpret it is to point out that i agree that the whole peasant revolution thing pushed by mao is incoherent within a marxist framework, which requires that capitalism precede socialism in the development of history. marxists refer to this theory as "historical materialism", and while it is certainly primarily pseudoscience, it does have that insight going for it: every attempt to skip the capitalist phase has led to failure, and i actually think it's easy enough to understand why. so, what happened in china after mao was the realization that, no, you really can't jump from a feudal society that was absolutely demolished in the second world war to fully automated luxury communism - you have to go through the hard parts in between, which means allowing for foreign capital to build industry, and a labour movement to develop and seize control. but, in the process, what is basically a fascist political party has taken hold of power in the country, and they're likely to stamp out any kind of possible labour movement with a force that is far greater than america ever did. remember tinanenman square, after all. there were blood baths in the early years of labour organizing in america, it is true, but restraint always won in the end, and all indications suggest that the chinese will show no such restraint, as they have no cultural tradition of things like rights or democracy. you're also confusing the west for capitalism, in your statements - you claim the west will attack you for being socialist, but it is in truth capital that will stamp out all dissent. and, china is the top dog of capitalism now, not the west. dust off the orwell, dave - you might need it.

dave
There are of course bad elements in capitalism, but to neglect its potential for development is totally wrong, even Marx knew that capitalism is very effective in creating higher living standards for people (at least a more Keynesian approach). Do chinese people get paid a lower wage and have worse working conditions then people from the West: Yes, of course they do. But the only thing people from poorer countries can offer is to work for less and the alternative to that letting you "exploit" yourself is greater poverty. While the chinese workers were "exploited", China experienced the largest reduction of poverty ever in human history. The living standards in China skyrocketed and to simply call this "a more vicious exploitation" has nothing to do with practical reality. Marx wrote his work focused on countries which are already developed, poorer countries will have of course much harder obstacles in achieving a transformation of their industries. You are way to focused on some theory, but it is extremely important to also analyze not only what is written in some books, but to look that the real, practical living conditions of people.

And about your point on imperialism: sorry I can't really just trust you there and I don't know what "evidence" you are seeing. China is actually much more cooperative with countries from the global south. Especially in Africa China is accepting what african countries have asked for a long time: economic interactions should be about trade and not about (conditional) aid. Furthermore, China is helping many countries to go higher up in the value chain which will have a huge effect

I think I see now where one of our main disagreements lies. You equate capitalism with imperialism and as soon you are a large capitalist country you automaticly turn into a imperialist power, but I totally disagree on that. Imperialism is caused by a burgeoisie which mostly controls the country and uses the state to further their business interest by exploting and subjugatting other countries (i.e. West India Company, United Fruit Company, Oil industry, military-industrial complex etc.). I don't equate the West with capitalism, I equate it with imperalistic capitalism, and it lis really laughable that you describe it as a system with a cultural tradition of rights and democracy. This tradition is reserved at the most maybe for white people, lets dont forget that the west almost colonized the whole world, the US is still oppresing its black population and used the war on drugs to target black people and political opponents (https://edition.cnn.com/2016/03/23/politics/john-ehrlichman-richard-nixon-drug-war-blacks-hippie/index.html) and caused almost 1 million civillian deaths during their illegal war on Iraq (not to mention all the war crimes they commited and other countries they attacked). The West is trying to create colour revolutions all around the world and the US alone tried to toppeld more then 70 governments ( some even elected) and is actively trying to do this also in China (in Xinjiang, Tibet and everywhere it cans, here a admission from a US general about heir goals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFIAXqkdWzU)

listen, david, i'm sorry, but i don't get the impression that you know what you're talking about, and i wonder if you're even working for the chinese government - which does actually pay people to do what you're doing. so, i'm going to extrapolate on a few basic points and try to disengage with this.

- i agree that china has come a long way since it hit rock bottom in world war two, but it kind of had nowhere to go but up. there are very few destruction events in history that compare with what happened in china between 1930-1950 - maybe the late bronze age collapse, and the mongol invasion are precedents, but there aren't many. so, there's been a fair amount written about the idea of technological determinism in china's post-wwII recovery, which i'm stating without irony: at some point of underdevelopment or broad social collapse due to famine and war, the system used to develop the industrial capacity doesn't matter as much as the introduction of new technology and the introduction of peace does. so, sure: give china credit for pulling itself up by it's own bootstraps, and doing it relatively fast. but, you're getting dubious when you start assigning that progress to this system or another. nonetheless, if you really understand marx here, there's really no daylight between where he stands on this kind of development and where somebody on the furthest right of the development spectrum does - marxists and capitalists agree that a society like post-war china requires the introduction of capitalism to generate wealth as a starting point. it's only what happens now, 60 years later, where the marxists start to disagree with the capitalists.

- the definition of capitalism is the system where surplus value is extracted from workers by a class of managers, called capitalists. you can use as many scare quotes as you'd like, but that's what capitalism is - and the more capital is extracted, the worse the exploitation is. pointing to rising living standards as a consolation price doesn't cut it. why shouldn't the workers get everything?

- the proxy wars in africa are complicated, but china is absolutely funding all kinds of armed insurgency groups to fight this or that group, and this idea that they're just offering hands-off investment in return for no-questions-asked extraction is actually the same kind of relationship that the west had with the local slave markets in africa. sure - it's good for a small layer of bourgeoisie in africa, but the result is vicious exploitation of the african working class. and, there's a word for that model, as well - it's called neo-liberalism and it's not connected with any kind of communist concept of social development in any way at all.

- i would suggest that global capitalism uses imperialism as a tool of dominance whenever it can, absolutely. imperialism need not be capitalistic, but capitalism will never avoid the use of imperial tactics to advance itself. as it happens to be, china is an empire, regardless of whether it is a capitalist one or not, and china's imperialist nature is deeper than it's embrace of capitalism. so, it would certainly follow that if china is the new capitalist overlord then they will begin the process of dominating the rest of the world around them, like the empire that they are. and, as mentioned, we are seeing that today in both south america and in africa, even if the us military presence in their direct periphery continues to make that difficult for them.

- democracy has a deep history in greek, roman and german culture. while western capitalism has not always upheld democratic concepts, democracy is nonetheless baked into both the underlying  panhellenism and germanic substrates that define what we call western civilization and some concept of progress is indeed present in western history. conversely, democracy is rejected as inferior and in fact even largely ridiculed as stupid by chinese culture, which insists that the people must be ruled from above. while i did not wish to present a caricature, the difference is nonetheless fundamental, and you are being naive if you expect the chinese to even pretend to care about human rights anywhere in the world, or to ever take even the most trivial steps towards any concept of individual autonomy or self-ownership - it's just not present in their culture. you are merely a meaningless cog in a system, and you shall die for the greater good, if required.

dave
Your arguments about China are ignorant, filled with half trues and with false statements (like chinese people being white or China never being colonized). And the fact that you constantly white-washing the western-imperialistic system, ranging from the claim that colonizers asked nicely to be provided with slaves by other africans, which is nonesense, they went there with their army and weapons and slaughered millions in the process of their exploitation. Or the claim that the west is a beacon for democracy (maybe if you only count white people and their human rights, then maybe sure):  again the US toppled more then  70 goverments and it never mattered if they were democratly elected or not. The US also supported Apartheid South Africa and declared Mandela a terrorist (until 2008). And lets not forget that the western imperialist are in CONSTANT war and are slaugthering hundred thousands of people in the middle east. You even tried to argue that somehow the freaking US military is a force against imperialism which is just ridiculous.
To me it seems like you are a confussed marxist, who seems to scoop up a lot of US propaganda.
The west (at best) only cares about white people and people of the conceptual west. China never needed the concept of democracy and human rights to be against colonization and imperialism of the west, to reject Apartheid or to reject the western wars in the middle east. There is a reason why the african independence hero Lumumba asked China for help, before the west orchestrated his execution. The western imperialist always have a pretense for their exploitation, first they wanted to christianize the world, then they wanted to civilize it, then they colonized Africa to "end slavery", then they toppled goverments and supported (even some fascist) dictators to fight against independence movements or communism (they supported of course also terrorists like Osama) and know they are waging wars in the name of democracy and human rights. Western imperialists will always have a pretext to wage war and you must be really foolish if you truly belive any of their bs pretextes.

deathtokoalas
the slave trade was not created by western capitalism, it was created by muslim imperialism and inherited largely within the reconquista. and, we could go on, but why bother? i keep correcting your screwed up crt-defined concept of history (which is a kind of neo-liberalism, and has nothing to do with marxism), and it's standard practice for you to react by calling me ignorant as a defense mechanism and deflection tactic, but it is in truth your burkean concept of hierarchy, as presented to you via angela davis and michel foucault, that is ignorant of reality, and constructed strictly  through the lens of bad theory. worse, your concept of china as being historically aloof from the practice of slavery, of not participating in imperialist wars and being less involved with apartheid is bizarre, to say the least. slavery in china was not just probably historically worse than anywhere else on earth but is actually ongoing in multiple contexts. but, thee's no real value in arguing with foucauldians because they don't interface with empirical reality - and it is perhaps not ironic that crt is the new maoism, in that sense.
a lot of fake liberals have a vicious double standard here, and it's going to lead to their own demise, in the end.

if you align with the strain of liberalism that wants an iron wall of separation at all times, you need to stay consistent here and support total, complete bans on yoga at school.
no, this question is important.

if you allow yoga in school, why not allow group prayers?

likewise, if you let hijabs into the classroom, why not allow for displays of the ten commandments?

consistency here means you keep all religion out of school, not use specious arguments about minority rights as a backdoor for the renormalization of religious instruction.

....and make no mistake about that: the elite wants your children to be religious. they're more servile, pliable and easy to control, that way.
i would actually oppose lifting this ban - religion has no place in education, whatsoever at all.

it's a backdoor to reallowing religion in school, and the aclu should oppose it and fight to re-institute the ban.

today's post is the aleph for the symphonic works, inriℵ12. that is symphonies 000-006, plus the tripout piece eat my fuck.

and, they're claiming that people that do get paid for ads should claim the revenue as "royalties", which suggests that youtube owns the content.

i'm going to advise that you don't upload your content to youtube anymore.
we'll see what happens, but something else i could do is migrate the videos from youtube to this blog, to avoid the ads on them.
youtube is now claiming the right to monetize your videos without paying you. it's outrageous.

if i start seeing ads on my channel, i'm going to have to pull the videos and put them up as dvd downloads at payhip, instead.
today's post is the fourth dvd full of flacs.

this is somewhat of a caricature, which often happens in history - you set these sides off against each other, and they tale on exaggerated representations. the caliphs did their share of repressing things, too. in fact, there was also a deep ethnic conflict at play, in that the decadent scientists were almost all kurds (of iranian ancestry), and the conservative/populist backlash was overwhelmingly semitic. and, this was largely the same dynamic that overthrew the persian empire in the first - indeed the sumerian empire, in the years leading up to sargon. that is a pattern of history in this part of the world, these periodic conservative semitic uprisings against the decadent invaders from the north, west or east. for that reason, i like to consider this more of a persian or even sumerian (via babylon) renaissance, rather than an islamic golden age. and, i don't think it's a coincidence that it's sole lasting influence is in astronomy.

and, i'm going to have to start here and reread forwards, for friday:

i mean, i initially couldn't do the time division thing because i had to file the computer, first. it was a huge bottleneck..

but, if i'm doing the diet before i rewind back to 2013, i can click into the schedule, immediately.
i really want my quick edit links back, please.

my best guess is that the cops shut it off in an attempt to try to stop me from "altering evidence".

but, this is a living document, it's not intended to be static and it's not intended to be "evidence". i'm not interested in pissing matches about being right or wrong, either - that has nothing to do with why i'm backposting, and i don't care if end up being right or wrong in the long run. this is more about the enjoyment of speculating than it is about any kind of clairvoyance or superiority or any pretentious bullshit like that.

so, it's under constant revision and always will be. if you want to snapshot parts of it, that's your prerogative, but i'm not interested in their or your opinion on the matter - and i will continue to edit the posts the hard way, as the issue comes up, if i have to.

i mean, could you imagine trying to write a manuscript and having the editor tell you you can't edit it? it's ridiculous.

that said, the editing is mostly about fixing typological errors, correct mistyped words (i do that fairly often), fixing awkward sentences, etc. i have every right to edit my own writing as i see fit, and see nothing wrong with doing it.

but, i mean, i don't have a motive to just make things up...

regardless, let's say i did decide to just make things up and back post them. so what? i mean, i don't have a desire to do that, and i'm not, but what would the concern be if i did? again - it's a rooted in a misunderstanding of what a blog is. if i want to back date an entirely fictional narrative, there's no reason in the world that i couldn't, and i have no obligation to care whether anybody thinks that's dishonest or not.

so, i mean.....i don't have the motive to do that.....but i don't want to have the debate, anyways - i assert my right to post absolute bullshit backdated to wherever the fuck i want to backdate it, and you can waste your time fact checking it if you really give a fuck.

i sat down a few week ago to quickly add a few things to the chart because i was feeling a little tired, but i'm feeling a lot better now, and i'm going to get back to cleaning tonight, and then shift into working on the alter-reality tomorrow. i'm not going to get any actual recording done over the weekend, but i may get the pc cleaned out. i'll get back to the diet on monday, and it will be me focus until for the week, until i catch up.
this is the applicable law that must be followed:
they're trying to cite s. 45, which is completely wrong.

Section 45 of the Constitution Act, 1982 allows each province to amend its own constitution. However, if the desired change would require an amendment to any documents that form part of the Constitution of Canada, it would require the consent of the federal government under section 43.

so, no - they can't insert a statement about quebec into the document, unilaterally. that's just wrong.
so, can quebec alter the constitution?

the premise is ridiculous (that's why we have a constitution), but you have to acknowledge a basic point - quebec never signed or ratified the constitution, and quebeckers really don't see it as their constitution.

previous courts...you know, i'm not even sure that the mclaughlin court would have even heard an argument that a province has a unilateral ability to modify the constitution. that's just utterly ridiculous. but, this guy they've got in there now is a loose cannon, and his rulings to this point have been atrocious. there's a good chance he might see the constitution as a liberal conspiracy to wipe out the right or something. and, he may be more likely to cite the nineteenth century version - which is essentially a relic of british colonialism, rather than an actual constitution.

so, the law says that there is a complicated legal process to open and amend the constitution and i would expect a functioning court system to uphold that, but i'm not sure the court system is currently functioning, so it gets blurry.

but, what quebec might do is ignore the constitution, as it has done before, and how it is that the rest of the country goes about enforcing rules on them is something we've largely avoided, to this point...

so, you'd imagine something like the following working itself out:

- quebec can certainly legislate rules for itself, as it sees fit. it can try to pass a rule that "alters the constitution" in quebec, but what it's actually legally doing is defying the constitution and challenging the legal system to stop it.
- it would then be up to some groups in quebec to launch a constitutional challenge. now, quebec may claim it is no longer subject to such a challenge, but that would be equivalent to a statement of sovereignty, and the courts couldn't take such a thing seriously.
- by definition, any attempt by quebec to alter the constitution would necessarily be unconstitutional, and necessarily be declared ultra vires - if the court is correctly functioning, which does not appear to be the case.

but, then what?

if the court declares the change unconstitutional, and quebec just ignores it...the next step is a civil war, which nobody wants. and, as mentioned, there are confusing questions about jurisdiction and democracy, given the linguistic and cultural differences. what right do we really have to enforce a constitution on a province that won't sign it, then demand they uphold the rules they won't agree to?

so, to put it another way....

if quebec were to try to unilaterally alter the constitution, it would instantly throw the country into a potentially existential constitutional crisis that could lead to a partition of the country because, no, it can't actually do that. and, it's not clear that this federal government would choose to fight that battle - it may just concede the point without a fight. but, it would still be illegal, and we'd just be left with a pariah province that refuses to follow the rules.

historically, the main tool at the disposal of the federal government would be to threaten to withhold transfer payments - including health care payments. but, that would instantly destroy the liberals in quebec for a generation.

the truth is that this is probably just cyber-rattling and empty electioneering by a provincial government that wants the tories back in power, but it's potentially an exceedingly messy situation, and the likelihood of violence is not trivial.

now, what would i do?

well, it depends. what is the change? and the answer is a triviality:

“Quebecers form a nation” and “French shall be the only official language of Quebec. It is also the common language of the Quebec nation.”

those statements are not currently in the constitution, but would anybody care if they were? i mean, who cares, ultimately? see, and that's where the calculation that this is battle not worth fighting (likely, given that the pmo is currently staffed by slackers and potheads) comes in....

....but it's wrong because it would entirely dissolve the authority of the state, and undo the premise of federalism. you'd get alberta inserting language about oil revenues, bc inserting language about the environment and ontario inserting language about doug ford's god given right to eat barbeque, no mattter what, ever, always. you get the point - if the rational analysis is that this is trivial, what's stopping anybody else from trivial amendments? and, then the constitution no longer exists - it's death by a thousand amendments.

what trudeau should say is this:

i am not a lawyer, i am a politician, and this is not a political debate, this is a matter for the courts.

in time, perhaps it won't be. but, the court needs to shape the bounds of debate, for better or worse, and the feds should completely step away from it until it does.

if the court rules that the legislation is ultra vires - as it no doubt will - then the next step is to offer quebec a choice - if they feel that strongly about the situation, let us have a constitutional convention and amend the document in the legal manner set out within it. if they do not, let them drop their concern.

and, once the process has played itself out, quebec always has the right to hold another referendum.

but, two points are important here as major take-aways:

1) big cock authoritarian tactics (like withholding funding) should be a last resort. there is a lengthy legal process, here. allow that to work itself out, first.
2) because the process is so lengthy, very few of the people involved in the process when it launches will still be around to see it complete, and the logic of the situation may very well change.

there is no reason to create a crisis around something that may very well burn itself out with the next election in quebec.

so, that's my advice to trudeau - defer to the courts.
listen - i'm not a vaccine skeptic. go get vaccinated. i won't tell you otherwise.

i'm more of a vaccine existentialist, at least for the next few months, in the sense that i don't think the effects of the vaccine can be effectively separated from the noise of the weather and encroaching natural herd immunity due to widespread transmission. at the least, we can not just jump to that conclusion - that is an empirical question, and it requires a statistical test. if i'm skeptical about anything, what i'm skeptical about is the efficacy of all these measures, when compared against the effects of randomness and chaos. and, that's the question that statisticians face and resolve on a day-to-day basis.

so, that's the right way to interpret me, here - what i'm suggesting is that, for most people, the vaccine doesn't actually matter, that it's largely just meaningless theatre.
give us all your gas, vlad.

give us your oil and your gold and your diamonds, too!
stalin would have had the man executed for proposing the export of natural gas to germany.
the problem with trump is not that he was some kind of russian spy, which is a comical supposition.

the problem with trump is that he was essentially retarded, when it came to understanding military tactics, and he consistently understood american strategic objectives so poorly that he supported ideas that would actually benefit america's opponents.

america wants to protect german industry from russian influence, and it wants to do that by positioning large amounts of troops there, and by bribing the german people to take the side of the west over the russian side. and, it certainly wants to ensure that it is germany that benefits from russian energy wealth, rather than russia itself.

and, putin is a fool for failing to understand that - but this is longstanding, and his strategic blunders are quite numerous.
to be clear: while it does certainly seem to be the case that trump thought that restricting russian exports to germany is in american interests, that "logic" is really exactly what it appears it is: this is trumpism, and it can only be comprehended, however incoherently, through a trumpist filter.

trump's logic is something along the lines of that commerce should be restricted between germany and russia in order to maintain american influence over the region, and that germany should be punished for acting outside of american hegemony by seeking trade relations with outside actors. ok. but, you'd have to be an oligarch to think that actually makes sense.

if you're looking at the situation as a chess board, in a geostrategic manner, which trump was unable to do, your goal is not to prevent the russians from engaging in commercial activity with the actors around it, but rather to find ways to extract as much out of the country as is possible. it would follow that exporting resources from the former soviet union to the western satellites is in western interests because the west gets to use those resources rather than the russians. the russian self-interest here would actually be to hoard the resources - which is what the chinese are doing. it further follows that an american military presence is necessary in europe to protect those extracted resources, and ensure they are developed in the west, rather than in russia.

i've been over this more than a few times: i basically think that putin is a contemptible fool, with a very poor grasp of strategy, and this idea that he's some kind of strategic genius is essentially just western propaganda, designed to construct an enemy to justify military budgets.

so, if russia were acting in it's self-interest, it would act to prevent the export of these raw materials, and seek to develop the industry in russia, instead. but, it isn't. and, the properly rationalistic policy from the west is to take advantage of that by encouraging the russians to export as much as they can, for as cheap as they can, so that those resources belong to us, rather than them.

it follows that biden's policy of supporting german purchases of russian gas is a rational, pro-western policy, and the fake left media just exists in lalaland in suggesting otherwise - as always.
so, i actually designate today to be the first international insult a mac user day.

go find your favourite douche bag big mac user, and give them some special sauciness.
i need to spend a few days cleaning....
that was absurdly time consuming, but i got lost in it and it's updated, now.

fuck.

i'm going to consider it a learning curve...

so, here's the full 314 pages (so far) in a relatively readable presentation, including expansions to 11x11, up until the end of september.

it's not unreasonable to expect 200 pages a month in this up until the end of january.

today's post moves directly into the rabit is wolf period, which took up my time over the first half of 2002. this final presentation is a compromise, but i'm happy with how it ended up, in the end.

=======

this came out of a two-person psychedelic folk project i was working in over late 2001 and into mid 2002. we had brainstormed the idea of a piece that slowly built itself up, like a wave, and that had sporadic pieces of poetry interspersed as it did so. of the two of us, i was the musician, and he was the poet; i generally produced the music by myself. however, my vision of the track proved to be much larger than his, to the point that the two ideas could not be effectively reconciled given the deficit of technology available to us (i simply couldn't find a way to get enough resources to condense the track to under ten minutes). that left me with this seventy minute ambient piece that has mostly stayed hidden in my closet over the last twelve years.

in 2014, i strongly contemplated reconstructing the short version out of existing material, but it would have required a rethink of the process that i felt would be invasive to the poet involved. the reality is that the music that i created was not well suited as accompaniment for the poem, and it should just be left at that. in oct of 2017, i added the poem to the disc, a capella, as an introduction to the track.

this is very much process music. it's built on 36 distinct loops of identical length (just under 57 seconds) that assemble the collage up on a loop by loop basis, hitting it's full point only in the 35th loop. the 36th loop does not fit into any of the patterns that define the first 35, but is nonetheless the climax of the piece. this is followed by a disassembling process that is precisely the reverse of the assembling process. together, this produces the effect of a long wave of sound washing over the listener.

aesthetically, it's likely clear that i had been listening to a lot of "kosmische" style synthesizer music of european origin. it's actually a key part of my musical style, so a bigger exploration of it's themes is not at all out of place. however, i generally prefer to take ideas from the genre and recontextualize them rather than delve into a full exploration. this is somewhat unique in my discography as being an album-length analog synthesizer work.

either as ambient or kosmische or process music, this is mostly meant as background music.

if you really want to boycott something, boycott american oil companies.

Tuesday, May 18, 2021

isn't this just priceless:

There, at least one oil‐producing country is almost guaranteed to remain friendly to the United States. That is Iran, which :has a fathomless need for oil money to finance its economic development and military modernization. More important, Iran is not an Arab country; it has consistently stood aloof from the Arab‐Israeli conflict; and it is quite willing to make a profit at the expense of its Arab oil‐producing neighbors (in 1967, during the brief Arab oil embargo against Britain and the United States, Iran made a killing in the European market). Unfortunately for us, however, Iran's production will definitely not be enough to meet U.S. needs in 1980, even if, during a crisis, all of it were di verted from European and Japanese customers to the United States—which in fact couldn't be done.
it's just a question of understanding things.

listen - i'm pretty good at this. i'm not yoda, or some shit, but when i give you hints like this, you should take them pretty seriously.

i'll say it again - if you want to stop the bombing in gaza, then buying more electric trucks is actually probably the only impactful tactic available to you.

and, i don't think anybody in detroit understood that, regardless of what they were saying or who they were standing with.
could humans genetically engineer themselves for space travel?

in theory, sure. and, i don't believe in god, so don't bother.

but we're running out of time...
so, i was supposed to finish formatting the file for september last night, get something to eat, take a shower and do some running around today. but, the process was so slow (largely due to the server being so slow) that i never finished the formatting at all.

i should finish it tonight. i hope.
i've tried to switch from windows to linux on a number of occasions, but, in the end, the problem is always that i can't get linux support for my sound gear. it's been a few years since my last attempt, and i have been toying with putting linux on the 64-bit machine.

and, there was a time when macs were different - they had different processors, and different architectures. that was a debate, back then; now, it's historical.

a mac nowadays really is literally just an hp or dell with a different sticker on it, and that sticker costs roughly $3000/machine. that's not much of an exaggeration - if you put linux on your hp, you'd have a mac for half the price.

so, there's actually even something poetic about putting a fake mac sticker on a windows laptop, if you actually understand how these devices are manufactured and are able to see past the surface branding optics.

....which nobody would reasonably expect that mr trudeau would have the depth of thought required to do.
mar 11, 2018

politicians with macs.....

i see this all of the time. they probably think it's trendy.

but, you know that apple has like a 2% market share, right?

what that says is "i am an out of touch elitist".

you are literally broadcasting yourself as a member of the 1%.

stop doing it...

normal people use windows machines.
at 08:31

even iphones are niche items, nowadays.
at 08:32

95% of strategists will see it otherwise, i concur.

but, nobody wants to have a beer with a political strategist.

to, 95% of voters, this logo screams DOUCHE.

...and it should be avoided like the plague.

now, if you don't like windows - or are afraid somebody is going to make you pay licensing - a much safer choice than a mac would be linux, because while people may raise an eyebrow, it's more likely to leave a positive impression - it's going to broadcast a level of technical intelligence, whereas the apple logo just broadcasts "this is somebody i don't want to spend time with".
at 08:52

and, if you're going to lecture me on using the word 'douche' as an insult, then you're a douche.

so, this is the final total fruit bowl update, combining everything in one giant post.

vitamin a (general)

===========

ok, so i fixed a few things, and this is my new template.

i need to get some cheese info in there. but, now i'm at the point of pondering what and how i should supplement further, and the first vitamin in the list is vitamin a.

i know that vitamin a comes in two forms, and i know that conversion is often poor. i think i was previously overestimating the amount i was getting from a combination of tomatoes/soy/cheese/eggs, and i was told that vitamin a deficiency can't happen here and believed it, but after actually calculating the values, which i should have done years ago, i think i need to pay special attention to this.

this is worth sorting through to summarize the situation:

so, i'm getting about 54% of my vitamin a from actual retinol (soy, ice cream, eggs, margarine), not including cheese. the other 110% is from carotenoids found in fruit (you'll notice there's not yet any vegetables in my diet, and i need to change that). is that a good enough mix? well, for a, i'd like to shoot for 400% total, with 100% in the retinol and 300% in the carotenoids. that should eliminate any potential error, and make sure i'm converting as much as possible. a single carrot is an extra 250%, entirely via carotenoids, and with minimal k, so i think that solves that without even wading into the problems presented by broccoli. but, what about actual retinol?

given that i'm trying to avoid fish due to the mercury content, my only serious choice for vitamin a is via fortification or via dairy products, and i only really get dairy in the form of ice cream (which i think i'm maxed out on) and cheese (which is what i'm looking at next). i don't want to eat animal organs, 'cause gross.

so, next time somebody gives you shit about eating cheese, you might want to point to the retinol. unless they're eating a fair amount of liver or fish, or paying very close attention to how the grains they eat are fortified, or drink a lot of fortified whole milk, or eat eggs every day, or eat lots of fattening peanut butter, cheese is really the only serious way to get any. and, i'll pick cheese over the others...

how many of the options in this list sound appetizing to you?

on that note, the other thing i can do is buy a box of cereal and throw it in with the fruit. something like a cup of plain jane special k or corn flakes is not bad on fat, and will help with b complexes, too. it's cheap, as well. i just need to find the brand that has what i want, which is - lots of vitamins, minimal sugar, minimal salt & minimal price. and, i'll bring it home on the unicorn i parked in the lot.

so, that means i should be looking at cheddar-type cheeses, as they have more retinol than mozza type cheeses. i'm not sure there's any reason to migrate from the marble, but i'll see if i can get a better answer on that, too.

...which was actually pretty easy, i just went to the site:

my marble has 10%/30g, which is about on par with the cheddar numbers at the self site (maybe a little higher). the black diamond mozza is at 8%, which is consistent. but, if i'm eating cheese for a, i can actually max that out by moving to one of the flavours with 15%, which are:

- old cheddar (regular, lactose-free or white)  [240 mg of salt]
- mild cheddar  [180 mg of salt]
- medium [old or white] [180 mg of salt]

for reference, the marble has 200 mg of salt and is marketed as medium. that seems like what i should do...

so, i'm not adding anything in this post besides the top line of vitamin a, i'm just reposting the template. but, to get me to where i want to be with a, my options are:

- carrots (250% more carotenoids presents resolution for >300% carotenoids dv)
- cheese (~45% more retinol) (99%)
---------------------------------
- low sugar, low salt fortified cereal (20-30% more retinol) (presents resolution for >100% retinol dv) (if i can find it)
- doubling soy milk? (10% more retinol) (gravy)

it would be even better if they put vitamin a in the pasta & bread.

i need to do some court stuff today...

====================

i'm starting with vitamin a, on the top line and moving down, and i'm instantly finding an error in the data that could very well be catastrophic. the raw numbers at the self site seem to be pulled directly from the usda, but the conversion factors seem to be all wrong.

consider bananas.

there are supposed to be 30.7 μg of beta-carotene and 55.5 μg of alpha-carotene equivalents in 118 g of banana. the factor for beta-carotene is supposed to be 12 & the factor for alpha-carotene is supposed to be 24. this would suggest that there is a total of:

30.7/12 + 55.5/24 = 4.87 μg of retinol activity equivalents. yet, the site insists on 3.5 μg rae, and i can't immediately see what the conversion factor is.

worse, when you convert from 3.5 μg rae to ui, the factor should by 10/3. so you should get (7/2)*(10/3) = 35/3 = 11.67. yet, the site insists on 75.5 ui - which is indeed about 2% of 3000 ui, a bit more. but, converting backwards, you'd need to get to 22.65 μg rae, which seems a far cry from 4.87 or 3.5.

so, the numbers being thrown around don't appear to be consistent with each other, and if you go directly to the usda site, you might get the explanation i'm trying to find - they come from independent estimates. so, the ui is not calculated from the component sections.

Vitamin A, RAE 3.54 µg 4/1/2006
Retinol 0 µg 6/1/2002
Carotene, beta 30.7 µg Analytical (16.5, 68.4) 12/1/2002
Carotene, alpha 29.5 µg Analytical (11.8, 88.5) 12/1/2002
Vitamin A, IU 75.5 IU 4/1/2006
Lutein + zeaxanthin 26 µg Analytical (15.3, 31.9) 12/1/2002

the numbers for the carotenoids appear to be an average calculated independently from the rae or iu numbers.

now, if i plug in the highest numbers in the sample, for fun, i get:

2*(68.4/12 + (88.5+31.9)/24) = 21.43 μg rae, which is at least close, but demonstrates a point i've been trying to get at by lowballing everything - these numbers are not static, and are going to depend on things like growing conditions and storage. when foods are fortified, their contents are determined in a lab and it's more clear; when they're plucked out of a produce section, you often just don't really know. you have to guess...

that's why i'm coming in low and aiming high on everything.

that said, i'm also assuming the ui numbers are for total retinol equivalents due to the calculated daily value numbers. it happens to be, though, that 3.54/0.05 ~ 70, meaning the conversion factor is much closer when it's calculated directly from beta-carotene. if that is what they did, and i think it is, then they made an error in the final conversion, as they should have calculated the rdi at 18,000 rather than 3,000 and that is only 0.5%. that would appear to be an error in conversion at the self site, rather than by the usda; the usda provides the numbers 3.54 μg rae and 75.5 ui, but does not derive one from the other, specify units for ui (retinol, or beta-carotene) or provide a daily value from them. yet, it is clear from the numbers that the usda must have meant ui beta-carotene, and the self site misread it as ui retinol. and, i wonder if that factor of 6 carries through (in fact, it does).

so, how do i fix that?

while i would like to add up the components as modularly as possible, i don't know how complete the listing is. there are more than six carotenoids, so i may miss total retinol by adding them up. further, i now *know* that i'm not going to get the same answers.

what i'm going to do is rely on the rae number. this should consistently be a very rough factor of six lower than what i had listed, due to a conversion error at the self site. i apologize for not catching that, but i just took the data as i saw it.

if you are an editor at the self site, please make that correction - you are not converting properly and are inflating carotenoids by a factor of 6.

so,

- bananas go from 4% to 7.08 μg (which is roughly a factor lower at .78%)
- strawberries are entered in at .75 μg, which is still 0%
- avocados go from 4% to 10.5 μg, which is that same factor downwards
- kiwis are at 3 μg, still very low
- the soy, ice cream & cereal present their dv% on the box as retinol (not carotenoids) and will be left as is.

so, the sum for this meal is now:
38% dv for retinol
21.33 μg rae carotenoid, which is 2.37% of the dv.
=======================
40.37%, down from 47%.

i will correct these items in the chart.

now, this might seem terrible, but let's take a step back.

when i initially crunched these numbers, i decided i would need:

1) 100% retinol, split by threes because it's fat soluble.
2) 300% convertible, because i'm going to lose a factor of 3, roughly, if i have conversion issues.

the correction i'm making is a more aggressive one, but it is essentially working out the same concern, just putting it into the chart. and, as such, there's not any real reason to seek out 300% of the daily value of carotenoids if i'm calculating the rae up front.

let's see what the numbers for the rest of the meal look like:

peppers - first, note that i'm boosting the amount to 200 g because that's more realistic. the giant peppers i bought the other day are more in the 250-275 g range, but that's before they're cut. even so, i never really see the small ones, and am going to hold out for the biggest ones at the best price when i find them. so, that's 314 μg, and a much smaller 35% - but note that that is roughly a third of the 103% i was overshooting for.
pasta - the 1% was pulled from data in this paper, which eyeballed .5 μg. i should divide that by a factor of 24, which is .02 μg rae.
cheese - is from a modern label, and is 30% pre-formed retinol
carrots - i am likewise boosting carrots to 110 g as that is more reflective of reality. that number is chosen to get the carotenoid rae content over 100%, which is what i actually wanted. that's 918 μg.

so, i still have 30% pre-formed from the cheese and now have:
314+918+.02 = 1232.02 μg rae, which is 137% from carotenoids.

together, that's 167%, in more precisely measurable terms. and, note that 345/3 = 115 < 137, so i'm arguably doing better via that calculation, conceptually.

the eggs are the first and maybe only hybrid decision for vitamin a in the matrix. the numbers at the self site are interesting:

- 335 iu (7%)
- 88.8 μg of actual retinol
- 91.1 μg of total rae

that would indicate 2.3 μg of rae from carotenoids, and they do indeed appear to be measurable in the data.

as before, the iu does not appear to be calculated from the rae numbers but comes from an independent analysis that is close but off due to error. the carotenoid numbers would indeed appear to be roughly 2.5, so i'm going to be consistent and stick with the rae in order to minimize any further conversion errors at the self site. and, in this case, that number actually increases my total...

as before, the weight factor is three, so:

88.8*3 = 266.4 μg [29.6%]
2.3*3 = 6.9 μg &
91.1*3 = 273.3 μg, which is 30.37% total, up from 21%.

the cheese & margarine are from modern labels and come in at 15% and 10%, respectively.

so,
retinol: 54.6%--->54%
carotenoid: .77%--->1%
===========
55%

the soy in the coffee is from a modern label and will not be altered.

the new totals are:
126% retinol +
140% retinol equivalent carotenoids
====================
266% rdi

further, 140*3 = 420 > 354, so the recalculation actually suggests i was lowballing, as intended.

i'm going to apologize again, but it's not like this is really my fault - i didn't make a mistake in the calculation, so much as the site i was using made an error in their conversion factor, and i only caught it because the numbers didn't add up. i actually corrected somebody else's error, here. that's called peer review and this is why science needs it. that said, i had already compensated for this, conceptually, so it turned out to be a move sideways and not much of a big deal, after all.

note the altered requirements for a at the bottom.

we'll jump to b1 next, and make sure the numbers are right - relatively to the new weightings of the pasta bowl.

* - not really vitamins

so, september added roughly 200 pages to the document, much of it in the form of charts, and it's been very frustrating to try and format it, especially given that the server updates every half second, but there's something readable up that needs to be cross-referenced before i can get to october which won't be much better. it should flip over around february or so.

everything always takes longer than i want it to, but what do you want me to say about it? i'm trying to just dump it to file as fast as i can, but the server won't let me do it, and it's just not safe to connect any other computer to the network.

again - blame everything on the fucking pigs, they're the root cause of most of the problems we have in front of us in this society.

maybe we'll find them, and maybe we won't.

but, we've looked everywhere for dark matter, and it doesn't seem to be there.

and, we haven't really even started looking for aliens, yet.
hey, listen - i think that eventual contact with extra-terrestrial life is quite likely, and i consider aliens to be a naturalistic explanation, rather than a supernatural one. that's my position, and we can debate that if you like, but you know i get irked by the strawmen, and the smugness when attached to positions that are actually not that bright.

and, i actually think most physicists would have a general agreement with these statements, rather than a disagreement.

but, if you ever hear some smug physicist start writing off aliens, ask them about dark matter.

youtube appears to be downsampling it's streaming audio.

ugh.

no, listen. it's important that we get this right - because the world has a history of getting this wrong, and what happens when the world gets this wrong tends to be rather terrible, if continually repeatable. specifically, let's make sure we understand who the bad guys are here, let's make sure that we're not scapegoating, let's make sure that we get it - and not repeat the mistakes of those that didn't.

israel is roughly the size of new jersey and has population demographics roughly the size of it as well, meaning it would be the sixth smallest state in the union, if it were a part of the union, which it functionally is. and, i believe that that calculation includes the west bank. while it has a capable military and relative technological superiority that gives it substantive power in the region, it is nonetheless a relatively small country (slightly larger than slovakia, and slightly smaller than el salvador.) with relatively limited influence outside of it's immediate scope. it has no allies in the region, and few allies out of it.

the united states remains the global hegemon, with unrivalled global military dominance, including unmatched air supremacy. it remains at the top of the hierarchy of all of the global dominant military, economic, financial, intelligence-sharing and cultural institutions, as it designed the world to exist after the second world war - institutions that, as it happens to be, do not include israel as a member state, but rather as a distant second-rate also-ally.

these are merely the facts: the united states runs the world, and israel isn't even invited.

so, what exactly does it mean to suggest that the united states needs to stand up to israel? what do those words mean? it's a conspiracy theory, and it exists outside of any remote concept of reality.

and, so this is what we have in front of us with this conflict - neither side exists in reality, bases it's arguments around reality or references reality when it analyzes the situation, or presents solutions to it. that is where we are with this, and it's exceedingly dangerous.

bernie is closer to reality when he points to the massive american military subsidies that israel requires to exist, but he states it without the necessary context, namely the importance of the hegemonic power having a dominant military presence in the oil-producing regions, and the importance of keeping the groups indigenous to the region in constant conflict with each other, to prevent them from utilizing that wealth to challenge the hegemonic power's hegemony.

but, if you really want to actually understand this, you need to read bernie's source, which is chomsky. chomsky will tell you the truth, which is that israel will not act outside of the hegemon's control - and that it constantly, always, seeks approval before it strikes. something like what we're seeing in gaza today could not and cannot happen without biden signing off on it, first.

there's a naive reading to this, which is that this person is just a kid and she doesn't understand what she's saying, and i'm still leaning in that direction, which should be obvious. but, such an analysis has an expiry date, and there are plenty of signals that it should be retired, in this case for a much more sinister reading: which is that she's being sent out to blur the narrative, in a very historically predictable way.

i don't quote the ayatollah often, but remember - israel is merely the little satan. the great satan is the president of the united states.

and, we need to understand the balance of power as a first step if we want to do anything about this - and stop pretending that america gets it's orders from israel. it's absurd.

the irony is that the only real solution is carbon transition, and this won't end until we get off oil - if the palestinians don't merely get wiped out, first.
so, i just pasted my first chart into the document and it immediately became apparent that i can't convert this to 5x8. i flipped it over from 8.5x11 to 11x8.5 and that didn't make sense, either. the width of 8.5 should be fine, in the end, but i may have to extend the length. i'm not going to, yet.

that means these documents may appear crowded for a while.

i actually want to pick this up.
hey aoc...

mr. biden has no problem standing up to you.

so, maybe it's less about standing up to netanyahu and more about giving him approval. after all, this simply didn't happen when trump was president, and it seems clear enough what the difference was - trump forbid it.
i didn't actually eat, but the document is now caught up to mid september.
ok, so i got up to the end of august done, which means i'm just about at the linkage point and it's time to stop to eat....yesterday's breakfast. yeah.

i knew when i designed this meal that i wouldn't eat every day, but at least i'm eating a lot better. and, if i'm back to longer days, maybe it'll matter a lot less.
...and inri052 is my fifth record, finally sequenced as it is here for the first time in 2014, from material written over 2000-2001.

everything on the record was previously posted within inri043-inri048 & inri050, with 'stress' initially appearing on inri038 (as an alternate version of that recording), in addition to inri048 (which is why it was recorded, in this form). so, in hindsight, thanks to jon for convincing me to make that recording, even if it wasn't how he intended it to be. but, these versions are the most final, complete versions from each of those recordings, sequenced together into a traditional rock-era "lp" that comes in around 80 minutes, the length of a cd - or two vinyls.

i mention that because the thing splits at about 40 minutes, roughly. the first forty minutes are mostly abstract jazz, and songs that cam be cleanly separated into each other; the last forty minutes is dominated by scored sequencer parts, and runs into itself as a giant piece of twisted electronic music.

there are some aleph discs to follow, and then we shift into 2002, which was dominated by rabit is wolf, and eventually culminates in the sequel to this record, at the end of the year.

=======

this is a full record of material documenting tracks written in 2001 that were in a more "serious" style and completed from 2001-2014.

the intent with the core of the material (1,3,6,7,8) was for it to be performed by live musicians one day. in early 2014, i came to the conclusion that this was not going to ever happen and was pleasantly surprised to learn that the technology had improved enough for a realistic presentation of the material using sequencers. these versions of (1,3,6) also include live guitars.

tracks 2 and 5 were salvaged from an aborted project meant to reinterpret classical guitar music as modern noise. the project was permanently aborted due to the loss of the sheet music that was necessary to finish it.

track 4 is an electric folk tune with heavy counterpoint that i was playing live as a party trick at the time.

the ordering is roughly chronological, based on the date the track took the form it exists in. tracks 1, 3 and 8 were written in 2001 and reinterpreted and completed in 2014. tracks 2 and 5 were interpreted and completed in 2001. track 4 was written in 2000 and reinterpreted and recorded in 2001. track 6 was written in 2001 and completed in 2006. track 7 was written in 1998, reinterpreted in 2001 and...  more

i've been over this repeatedly - i stand with the apostates. that's the side i'm on.

while i agree that israel needs to stop the killing of civilians in gaza, please be cognizant of what you're supporting in offering blanket support for palestinian nationalism.

great.
