i've been over this point repeatedly: i don't think it's well understood, in the west.
tersely: in order for trump to pull out of the iran deal, and reintroduce sanctions, he's going to need to get russia to agree to adhere to them. and, that's going to be extremely difficult. for a start, they're going to have to look at reversing the sanctions on russia, which they've actually strengthened (thanks to the bullshit around the election).
so long as the united states maintains sanctions on russia, the act of pulling out of the iran agreement is actually going to functionally open up the market - it would be a formal abandonment of iran to the russians.
decades of intense media obfuscation have ensured that there aren't a lot of people that understand this very well. but, it is an obscure misfortune if none of them are advising trump.
