it's predictable that people will do drugs in the shelters. it's going to turn into a death trap. you're going to be pulling bodies out of there on a daily basis.

the shelter system is restrictive, and i went out of my way to avoid it when i got evicted because it's also dangerous, but it has to be that way to prevent overdoses.

the arena is unused and there's a large homeless population in the park directly outside of it. the idea is to get them out of the park. this seems a little bit bourgeois, for that goal.

they could just turn the arena into a shelter, instead, and focus on building actual housing to meet rising demand for it.

i would support allowing the tent cities to exist near the city dump, moving specific services they rely on to that industrial zoned area and just forgetting about it. these people need to have resources available to them, in the sense of offices being available to walk into. but they shouldn't be coerced or warehoused. that doesn't work.

the fact is that if they want to live in a tent and do drugs then they're going to live in a tent and do drugs. find them a place where nobody lives, on land that has no other potential use, and wash your hands of them.
