as for the russians themselves, occam's razor suggests their propaganda analogy is probably more due to laziness and ignorance than malevolence. they were trying to make a point; but the analogy is utterly terrible.

i do not stand with ukraine and would not sacrifice a single hair on the head of a single canadian to protect ukraine from russia. canada does not have shared cultural or historical ties with ukraine. ukranian self-defense is not in canada's self-interest. ukraine is not a member of any defense cooperation agreements that canada is in and canada therefore has no legal obligations in ukraine.

the russians should have used texas or cuba as an analogy, not canada.
