i don't think canada benefits from undoing patriation or returning to being some kind of colony of europe. canada wasn't really an actual country until 1982, and our "constitutional documents" until that point were just acts of the british parliament. we had to have our laws ratified by the british through most of the 20th century. i think most canadians alive today don't even know that, they think we became a country in 1867, but we really didn't. it really wasn't until 1982 that that actually happened.

the 1982 constitution is also dramatically superior to the 1867 "constitution", as it contains a substantive bill of rights. 

turning the clocks back to an era of european colonialism in canada may be what carney wants, but it's not what anybody voted for. in 2026, the proportion of european-descended canadians is continuing to shrink, as well. it's not just a step backwards, it's a step backwards into the dark.
