ocean currents in the pacific will have some effect on the local temperature and weather patterns in the eastern pacific, and perhaps an indirect effect on weather in the western pacific.
there is no statistically significant historical data, no discernible mechanism and no logical cause and effect relationship between el nino and temperatures or precipitation patterns in eastern north america. that is climate denialism, and it's right-wing propaganda. it's utter bullshit.
but keep an eye on ocean temperatures in the atlantic. higher ocean temperatures in the atlantic (as a result of global warming) will have an increasingly moderating effect on areas further inland and that's an effect that should increase to a very statistically significant signal in the upcoming decades.
it is not likely that the warming atlantic will be nullified or reversed by melting ice from greenland. that is likewise a right-wing myth.
