while the comparison of canada-us relations to ukraine-russia relations is ridiculous and not grounded in history or fact, there is a very strong analogy that is impossible to overlook, and it is that russia's relationship to ukraine is directly and overwhelmingly comparable to canada's relationship with quebec. quebec's size was inflated with the inclusion of parts of rupert's land. lower canada, which also included most of labrador, was more comparable in size to ukraine, but slightly smaller. that said, canada is much smaller than russia, so the ratio remains static as both sides of it decrease.

a smart sovereignty movement in quebec would take everything that the federal government has said about russia imposing itself on ukraine and throw it back in it's face, as it has aggressively created the arguments for it's own collapse, by following the direction of bad russian propaganda, that it should have instead easily deconstructed.
